I know the site has been somewhat vacant the past few days…been a whirlwind couple of days in the “real world” (yeah, there is a distinction… :shifty: ). Deploying a new mail server at work, revamping the IS budget at work for 2010 with a hard deadline, all alongside a 2 month old that decided to stop feeding from the bottle and a wife whose back went totally sideways, leaving her bedridden has made for an interesting week.
Of course, amongst all those events, I managed to make a toy run. Boy, I got my priorities straight, don’t I? :/
In all seriousness, I had to go south for work on Monday, so I had another chance to zip through an number of Targets, Toys “R” Us’ and Wal-Mart cruising through southern NH…and honestly? I was quite a bit more impressed and optimistic than I was the last time through. Obviously, as everyone is aware, both Wal-Mart and Target have slashed prices on the single packs, and I think it’s helped. A lot of those wave 1 pegwarmers had cleared out, at least somewhat, and many of them were replenished by the much improved later assortment offerings. I saw numerous Pit Commandos, Rex “The Doctor” Lewis (all black coats), Helix, Flash, Elite-Vipers, Eels, etc… I mean, I saw them in abundance. Pit Commandos were still the most rare, as I only saw 4 of them total in two different locations, but nearly every place I stopped had a nice assortment of Wave 3 items mixed in. Heck, I even found some Wave 4 Charbroils and Night Adders! Two Night Adders, one with blue tats, one with black, so I still have no clue which one is rarer.
But it wasn’t all sunshine and roses. Still didn’t see any Wave 2 Alpha’s at all (and I really want that Sky Sweeper!), and never touched either of the new TRU exclusives (Bench Press and Snow Serpent). No Wave 5, even though I hit a couple of K-Marts expressly for that purpose, and none of the Wal-Marts I hit had a hint of the Battle Station exclusives. Out of the 4 TRU’s I stopped at, one of them in Salem, NH had the Troop Builder 5-Packs, which was cool to see. Speaking of which, reviews of those should be going up next week, hopefully…
The week’s looking up. The Pats play the Colts on Sunday night, we actually have no plans this weekend, and the wife thinks she’ll be out of bed for Monday, but just in case you see spotty updates for the next couple of days, that’s why.

SuperHeroHype is reporting that G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra topped the sales and rental charts its first week of release, coming in third amongst first week sales, behind only Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Twilight. Guess G.I. Joe needs more androgynous vampires… :shifty:
Check out the full article here.
This is great news, but I don’t expect it to last long…Star Trek is hitting on the 17th and I’m sure that’ll take a chunk out of sales and rentals, but still a strong showing for The Rise of Cobra in its first week and more good news about the G.I. Joe franchise.

HASBRO’S G.I. JOE BRAND JOINS FORCES WITH
TOYS FOR TOTS AND ACTOR DENNIS QUAID
IN AN IMPORTANT HOLIDAY MISSION
Be a Hero and Help Deliver the Magic of the Holidays to Less Fortunate Children
PAWTUCKET, R.I., November 10, 2009 – Over 14 million children live in poverty in the United States. They need a hero this holiday season and here to answer the call of duty is the G.I. JOE brand from Hasbro (NYSE: HAS).
Hasbro’s G.I. JOE brand, the Marine Toys for Toys Foundation and actor Dennis Quaid are joining forces to help make this holiday season a little brighter for less fortunate children. For every G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra toy purchased at stores from November 11 through November 26 (Veteran’s Day through Thanksgiving), Hasbro will donate a new toy (up to 300,000 toys with a minimum $3.99 value) to Toys for Tots.
Actor Dennis Quaid, who plays ‘GENERAL HAWK’ in the 2009 blockbuster film G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra, from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment, in association with Hasbro, will voice a national radio spot, due to premier on Veteran’s Day, November 11, to help raise awareness for this campaign and the positive impact The U.S. Marines and Toys for Tots make on the lives of children.
“As long time supporters of Toys for Tots, we recognize and applaud the important work the organization does on behalf of economically disadvantaged children nationwide,” said John Frascotti, Hasbro’s Chief Marketing Officer. “In working with Toys for Tots once again this year, they were very clear that new toys for the children they serve would be in greater need than ever during these difficult economic times, and we are pleased to step up and do our part.”
“We know this year will be especially hard on families as many have already started to significantly tighten the purse strings,” said retired Marine Corps Major Bill Grein, USMC (Ret), vice president of marketing and development for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. “These families need a hero this holiday season and Hasbro is it. Their generous gift of toys and games will enable us to deliver the magic of the holiday season to many of our nation’s neediest children.”

We’ve seen some scattered images for the upcoming “Rip Attack” vehicles, but HissTank has now provided the most in depth images yet, giving us clear images of the two drivers, the vehicles and the mechanism used to launch them. Coolest thing to me is this version of Snake Eyes…I hadn’t noticed in earlier images, but this looks to be a combination of the Paris Pursuit head and legs with the version 1 body and arms. It actually works really well, I think, making Snake Eyes really resemble his movie self, yet being a bit bulkier and more imposing than the overly scrawny first version. I dig it.
Unfortunately “Street-Viper” just looks like the regular Elite-Viper, no new paint scheme or anything, which is kind of a shame, but his vehicle actually looks pretty neat. Check out the mirrored images below.

Fellow G.I. Joe news site, The Terror Drome has posted one of their very nice pictorial reviews of the Firebat repaint G.I. Joe: SkySweeper w/ Air Raid. There are a ton of great images (a few of which I’ve mirrored below) and some nice details revealed.
I haven’t been real high on many of the Alpha vehicles released so far, but this is one that will get my money if I can find it. Check out the pictures below.

by generalsjoes | Nov 8, 2009 | G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe: Resolute
Resolute seems to have really captivated the fandom, and I can’t blame them…while the story wasn’t perfect, the character designs pretty nearly were, and the vast cast of characters drew in Joe fans from all era’s. If there are any questions I see throughout the online fandom, they mostly center around Resolute. “Was this character in the show?” “Is this character being made into a figure?” “What assortment was that figure from?”
Well, with this new Characters SuperPage, I’m attempting to provide a resource for all of this information. I’ve broken down every single character who appeared in G.I. Joe: Resolute, and provided screencaps for that character from the feature, information about toy releases, and my own insight about whether or not we should expect to see a toy in the future. I’ve got screen grabs from the cartoon, pictures of the figures (both released and unreleased) and about as much information on the Resolute cast of characters that you’ll find anywhere online.
Check it out right here, and as always, please let me know if there’s anything you’re interested in seeing. This took me a looooong time, and forced me to rewatch Resolute several times over the past week (I know, poor me… :shifty: ) but I’m hoping the end result is worth it and helps out the fans.
Let me know your thoughts!

I’ve been a bit behind the eight ball over the past couple of days while I deal with some home-related issues, but since I was posting the Resolute DVD review, I had to get something up there for the two most recent Gyre-Viper discoveries over at HissTank.com.
Man, I love seeing this stuff…both from an unproduced or pre-production perspective, but also because it gives us some great detail on figures that are “in the hopper”…and I was pretty psyched about that mail away Cobra Commander. Now, I’m way beyond psyched. This guy looks in SANE. The dark chrome red finish on the torso is cool enough, but that rough metallic facemask is just too cool for words. Much more imposing than the previous version. I really like it…more than I thought I would. Gotta love the removable twin-barrel machine gun from the HISS Tank drone, too. Check out the original thread, or the mirrored images below.

The Whirlwind stuff is cool, number one because we get a peek at the original paint scheme (at least a little bit) for the vehicle that was slated to come with Recondo. But at this point what really interests me is that Twin Battle Gun w/ Range-Viper. I know a lot of folks have been complaining about the green, but I love it. The Range-Viper has always been designed as a wilderness trooper, so the green and gray are awesome colors. I do think it will look a bit less “sparkly” in person…the coolest thing to me about this particular Range-Viper, though, is that it uses the Resolute Trooper as a base figure, so not only does it have some great articulation and design aesthetics, but it can be used as a “Death Squad” trooper of sorts in your Resolute universe. Oh, and I guess the Cobra Whirlwind repaint is okay, too. :shifty:
Check those out here, and below.

Mysterious Stranger has kindly agreed to review the G.I. Joe: Resolute DVD for GeneralsJoes, but we figured that wasn’t enough…so I spent countless hours with the DVD over the past 2 days and have pulled over 300 screenshots from pretty much every scene and every minute of the animated event. Every character, every action scene…it’s all here! Hit the link to the embedded album after the review to check ’em all out.
If G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is a handshake and high-five to the general public then G.I. Joe Resolute is a full on makeout session with the fans. Without a doubt this is the G.I. Joe that fans have wanted since we were all kids playing in the backyard. You’ve all seen Resolute so I don’t need to sell you on it. Its just as awesome as it was on the internet and on Cartoon Network. Running at just under an hour it’s a great thrill ride and a lot of fun. I really enjoyed catching things I missed in the first few viewings and look forward to watching it again. And you definitely want to watch through the end credits. I won’t spoil it like Justin did but it’s worth it.
The DVD is packed with extras. The “Now You Know” teaser is the exclusive two minutes of footage shown at SDCC and Joecon and its pretty cool stuff. If you haven’t seen it yet you’ll really enjoy the clip. There is also a 20 minute interview segment with three of the filmmakers discussing how Resolute came together as well as answering fan questions. It’s clear they intended this for adult collectors and they definitely had the fans in mind throughout the entire production process. There are also Storyboards and Joe Files in the extras that you really have to see to appreciate. Lots of cool stuff.
G.I. Joe Resolute is the Joe we’ve always wanted. And now you can watch it anytime you want. YO JOE!

In conjunction with Sideshow’s “Spooktacular” event, GeneralsJoes was honored to be able to work with them to give away a free 12″ Cobra Commander from their amazing G.I. Joe toyline. The requirements were simple… just do up a custom of a G.I. Joe or Cobra character in a Halloween theme. But knowing that I alone wasn’t the customizing expert I used to be, I also enlisted the aid of JoeCustoms.com and a hand-picked group of their customizing gurus served as judges to pick the entry that best exemplified what we wanted to see.
There were a number of entries, which I’ve mirrored below:
