GIJoe Collectors' Club Adventure Team Gallery posted!

No, in spite of what folks might think, this is not the official Collectors’ Club cheerleading site…  but they have been posting some cool stuff lately, so gotta give them their props when they deserve it!
GIJoeClub.com has posted an awesome mini-gallery of the Adventure Team figures and vehicles, showing each figure in pretty decent detail, some very cool group shots, but a disturbing lack of Dr. Venom coolness.  Show him some love!
Check out the gallery right here.

GIJoeCon 2010 Convention Set Video Online

Not content to merely post images of the new figures in the 2010 G.I. Joe Collectors Convention set, the Club has also posted a terrific video to their Facebook page featuring very nice 360 degree glimpses at the figures in the set.  I’m loving these things more and more every time I see them.  Even Flint, which I was kind of questioning with the random, somewhat splotchy camouflage pattern is now looking a lot better.  Great work on this one, for sure.  Check out the mirrored video below…

Be sure to Become a Fan of them on Facebook to see more great updates, and I’ll see you in Providence!

Latest JoeCanuck Newsletter has been posted – Canadian JoeCon 2010 information!

Mike and the guys at JoeCanuck have posted the latest Collectors’ Newsletter, and it’s another fantastic read.  An awesome article from Christopher on the old school Marvel Comics…some great insight from Dave Tree and Ron Conner on the old Action Force figures.  Even a very cool new figure-related guessing game.
All of that and information on the 2010 Canadian JoeCon!  You gotta check it out, and check it out right here.

GI Joe Collectors' Club Adventure Team Pre-Orders are up!

fallen from a dead man’s hand
Congratulations!  You’ve found the FINAL IMAGE!  Hurry up and email justin@generalsjoesreborn.com all five images and you will TAKE BACK THE PIT!

And wow, do these look gorgeous.  Absolutely phenomenal.  If someone told me I’d be falling all over myself about 3 3/4″ versions of the Adventure Team, I would have called them nuts, but here they are, and they really look awesome.
The head sculpts, the chosen parts…  Dr. Venom!  Hell yeah.  This is exactly the type of stuff I love to see from the GIJCC.  Can’t wait to pick ’em up in Rhode Island in April.  Check out the awesome high res images mirrored below, and click the following links to pre-order yours today!

The most important thing about these figures is that they just look fun.  Tons of gear, some great colors, great play value, and once again…  DR. FREAKING VENOM.  Sweet.

Kick Ass Customs – Tri-Gate Creations incredible Red Shadows work!

The great guys over at Tri-Gate have always really impressed me with the level of work they put into the 3 3/4″ scale.  The sculpting, detail, and articulation rivals that of many Hasbro offerings I’ve seen, and I’ve often longed to try some of their product, but just somehow have never gotten around to it.
That might have to change.
With the JoeCon 2010 set featuring the Red Shadows, obviously a big focus is on the European enemy of Action Force, but lots of that attention is directed towards the 80’s model, somewhat overlooking what Devils’ Due did to update the group for the twenty-first century.  Well, not one to forget G.I. Joe history, Tri-Gate has pulled out all the stops on some absolutely INSANE offerings that are pulled straight from the pages of Devils’ Due!  These figures look absolutely sick.  I never would have thought the DDP updated designs for the Shadows would have translated to cool toys, but damn, I was wrong.
Dave from TriGate has been gracious enough to share some in progress work with the Action Force/Red Shadow junkies over on BloodfortheBaron, and I’m mirroring some images below.  Warning, these will almost make you love the Devils’ Due Red Shadows!  Almost.  Damn cool stuff.

Really impressive looking sculpting and they translate the comic images very nicely.  The Tri-Gate store is currently down as they build up their stock, but keep your eyes on ’em, as the next round of pre-orders starts shortly.  Big thanks to the always enthusiastic jamarmiller for pointing this out to me in an email!  Good stuff, man.

Will the real Operation: HISS Webisode 2 please stand up?

Yeah, looks like someone at MonkeyBarTV got a little tipsy the night before work last Friday…  what was being advertised as Episode 2 of Operation: HISS was likely Episode 3, and has now been pulled.  However, the real Episode 2 is now online, featuring some arctic action.  We see Timber, a little cameo from Snow Job, and hear some thick Scottish juice straight from Destro.
Check out the episode here, and some gratuitous screenshots below.

If it wasn’t already obvious enough, looking at this one, it’s pretty clear that Hasbro is taking full advantage of the 3d models from the video game.  I mean, these designs look nearly identical…

G.I. Joe: Origins #15 reviews around the web

So it’s Thursday, which means yesterday was Wednesday, and the latest Joe comic to hit the rounds was G.I. Joe: Origins #15, and IDW does something interesting here.
Obviously the fandom blew a rod when Marlon Wayans was revealed as Ripcord in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.  Changing the race of a somewhat minor player in G.I. Joe lore really put the fans on their ear, but more than that even was the drastic change in personality.  While Hama wrote Ripcord (during his most popular time) as a motivated, ultra serious soldier, Wayans portrayed him (as he usually does) as an off-color hack who was mostly comic relief.
In all honesty, I didn’t mind Wayans all that much.  There were worse performances in the film, to be sure.  But even though IDW has been taking large steps to cater to the fans, they decided to go the Rise of Cobra route with Ripcord, and I think it works pretty well.  I mean, it’s obvious by now that this isn’t your 80’s G.I. Joe.  So why not shake things up a bit, plus make things a bit more  cohesive with the movie universe?  But even beyond that is the issue itself, which ends up being really entertaining.  A mixture of some comedy, some action, with pretty solid writing and nice artwork, it has me very interested to read the follow up.  But what do other sites think?
