Pursuit of Cobra "Arctic Threat" Duke reviewed – with his Jacket!

I know this figure has been out there for a while now, but I wasn’t really content to review it as a whole without the jacket that makes it so much of a more imposing and cool looking arctic figure.
Well, thankfully, long time friend of the site notpicard came through in a big way, and we’ve got the one and only review on the ‘net for the “Arctic Threat” Duke including his evasive arctic jacket!
I’ve got him uploaded to the Pursuit of Cobra Review Page, and you can check out the review directly right here!
Notpicard is also a regular contributor to excellent G.I. Joe resource site JoeIntel.com, so make sure you put them in your favorites and visit early and often.  I can guarantee you, no matter how long you’ve been collecting you’ll find some damn cool stuff there that you never knew existed.

Action Force fan fic comic is FAN-FREAKING-AWESOME!

Greetings folks, Gary here again with a little review of a super cool fan driven project that you all should take note of.
A few months ago, Jamar Miller and the gang at Blood for the Baron sent us a copy of their in-house publication of Action Force. These “continuing voyages of” AF pick up where some of the Action Force universe left off and incorporates elements of the RAH universe. Call it the best of both worlds – or a Int’l/RAH Joe fan’s ultimate cross over dream.

Already some interesting tidbits from the Q & A's…

So, the Q & A answers have only started trickling in, and it already seems like we’re getting some better responses from Hasbro.  Even if they’re not revealing future figures, the responses seem at least a bit less “canned” and more thought out, which is great to see.  The following questions have already shown up on my radar:

  • Allspark.com reveals in their session that Sgt. Slaughter has a new wrist joint, and Hasbro confirms it, reporting that they are going to feature that joint on a number of upcoming new figures.  Awesome!  I’m all for articulation improvements, and this looks like a good one.  If you take a close look below, you can see what they’re referring to:

  • JoeBattleLines got a couple of gems for us!  They asked Hasbro about particular items that didn’t appear at Toy Fair and got confirmation that both Shadow Tracker and Ashiko with the Cycle Armor should be hitting retail in their Spring, 2011 line!  They also promised to show more at JoeCon in Providence.  Excellent!  Another interesting tidbit from JBL is that Hasbro reports that they have started shipping Alpha Wave 3 Rise of Cobra vehicles, in spite of recent reports from BigBadToyStore.  So we’re not getting the awesome Target exclusives, but we are getting the somewhat tired Rise of Cobra Wave 3?  Yay?
  • HissTank.com got Hasbro to talk a bit about the Pursuit of Cobra Duke’s headsculpt, and they confirm that it was inspired by Resolute, classic, and Valor Vs. Venom!  Awesome to hear that they pulled from different era’s, and it’s almost a little confirmation that the Pursuit of Cobra is the first real new G.I. Joe universe if you set aside the film (which so many fans seem only to eager to do).
  • ToyNewsInternational gets to the bottom of the COBRA Commander “Chase Figure” reports, and Hasbro admits that while the Commander is a chase figure, he will not be limited to 1 in every 10 cases as has been previously reported.  He should be much more accessible than that.  Great news there.

I know many fans were quick to jump on Hasbro a bit for their new, somewhat convoluted Q & A submittal process, but so far, so good.  We’re getting some great answers and great information this time around, I’m really happy to see it.  Don’t forget to keep checking GeneralsJoes Q & A Page for updates!  Got a number of sites up there already.

G.I. Joe Q & A Answers coming in…

We’ve just received our answers from the latest round of the G.I. Joe Q & A Session!  Here are the questions and answers from GeneralsJoes:
1) Comparing what we saw at Toy Fair in February with what was shown at GIJoeCon last year, it’s evident that some figures are not currently being released as planned.  What went into the decision on which figures to cut from assortments?  Figures like Desert Battle Ripcord seemed to have a ton of fan love and looked like a terrific addition, not to mention lots of money invested in the additional tooling.  Why would a figure like that get dropped from current release plans?
1) The majority of figures are being released as planned.  If a figure is dropped, it could be because it was not fully tooled and it is no longer relevant to the theme or storyline.
2) What is the current status of the third wave of Target Exclusive vehicles, the RAM w/ Sandstorm, Whirlwind w/ Range-Viper, Trubble Bubble w/ Elite-Viper, and Glider w/ Ace?  Are they still getting released?
2) Unfortunately there are currently no plans for their release.
Let me just say…
NOOOOOO!!!  Man.  I was really looking forward to those Target exclusive vehicles, but it sounds like they’re not being released as planned?  THAT is a major bummer.

Cobra La in HD…who could ask for anything more?

We’ve already heard that G.I. Joe: The Movie is hitting Blu Ray Disc format, so you can enjoy the beauty of insect creatures Cobra La in high definition…but now, thanks to The Terror Drome and Amazon.com we’ve got actual dates and prices!
If you pre-order the Blu Ray from Amazon, it retails for $15.99, while the standard edition DVD is $11.99, and both have release dates of July 27th, 2010.  Shout! Factory promises to have a wealth of special features included with the release, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled here for all the latest news nuggets on the movie.
Bring yours home in a ditty bag…a little, bitty, ditty bag…

Speaking of slow boats from China…

Now, normally I try to avoid promoting the Chinese gray-market sellers too much on the site (even though I regularly partake in their wares, since I’m all about being a hypocrite).  But in the case of the Wave 3 Alpha product, since it’s cancelled state side, I can make an exception, I suppose.
The Terror Drome reports that Black Sheep Toy Store (also known as ws_toys) has Volcano Vipers up for grabs!  Woop!  Beyond the Polar Shark Sub, this was one figure that I was really looking forward to, and I’m psyched that he will at least be available in some regard.  Now all we need is the sub itself and Ice Storm.  Leatherneck wouldn’t be bad, but I still think Hasbro might have a better version up their sleeves somewhere down the line.  He would fit the Pursuit of Cobra perfectly.

Slow boat from China makes Hawk sad

So, just as a piss poor capper to what was a pretty cool week in regards to G.I. Joe Collectors’  Club product, Brian Savage sent an email along saying that unfortunately it does not look likely that the Adventure Team figures will be shipped stateside in time for the Convention.
Buuuuummer.
I was looking forward to these figures…  looking  forward to them quite a bit more than I thought I might be.  Ah well, we can spread out the Joe product a bit I guess.  Until then, I’ll just continue to fawn over the awesome images.

Sideshow Collectibles 12" Crimson Guard in the works

Sideshow Collectibles has unleashed their latest newsletter with a few tidbits for G.I. Joe fans.  First and foremost, their latest Q & A session was posted, with the following tidbit of information:

“You’ll see the Crimson Guard appear in a diorama first, but the CG will appear in the 12-inch line at some point in the future”

Along with that answer, they posted a nice little tease of the Crimson Guard in diorama format, which you can check out here.
In addition to that, folks who now check out the 12″ Flint’s product page can also click the link for “Backstage Pass” under the product image and check out some great behind the scenes looks at the making of the fantastic looking Flint figure.
Last but not least, while the 12″ Firefly is sold out, anyone who wants the figure should hop on the wait list.  From what I hear, wait list folks have a pretty decent chance of getting the figure when it all shakes out, so give it a shot!

If a tree falls and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

Or…  if an assortment gets cancelled, and no one was going to buy it, does it really matter?
Okay, that’s a bit harsh.  To be honest, I was looking forward to the Volcano Viper, and the Polar Shark Sub was pretty bad ass all around, but I do think most fans have moved on past the third wave of Alpha vehicles, haven’t they?  I hope so, because according to The Terror Drome, the assortment has been officially cancelled, per an email from BigBadToyStore.
Seems to me, that even the most ardent fans of The Rise of Cobra (myself included) are now perched and ready for the Pursuit of Cobra, and don’t have a burning desire to revisit the Paramount universe at this point.  There are so many cool G.I. Joe items on the horizon that appear to have been birthed from the film, but have evolved past the film, that I’m not sure I can bring myself to care a whole lot about this last assortment.  Dusty did look pretty sweet.  The Polar Shark and Ice Storm are something that my collection will miss.  But the half-hearted Leatherneck was no great shakes, the repaint Rockslide and Molepod definitely don’t hurt my feelings.  I dunno.  Just nothing I was really clamoring for.
Bring on the Red Shadows at this point.
My biggest bitch is that I used a question in the last Q & A asking about this third wave…hopefully that’s not the magic one that Hasbro picks!
