I’m sure most of us have heard that the new Captain America 2: Winter Soldier film is coming out next April, and to celebrate the film’s release, Marvel is also releasing a prose novel following the landmark “Death of Captain America” comic book arc.
The original comic arc followed Captain America’s assassination as well as spiraled into the machinations of the Winter Soldier following his debut in the comic arc previous to it. It’s an interesting way to tie the film in with comic history, but even more interesting to G.I. Joe fans is the person writing the novel.
Marvel has tapped none other than Larry Hama to write this novel, and in a great interview with Newsarama he talks about the process of writing this exciting adventure, which interestingly enough was the first time he really dealt with Captain America himself as a central character.
Part of what led to this work was Hama’s terrific original novel trilogy The Stranger, which is available on Amazon.com and is a book that I strongly recommend to folks who enjoy a good story in the familiar Hama style. Check out the full interview at Newsarama.com.
Thanks to Facebook from Eduardo for the heads up!

Yes, we know the episodes have been a little more sporadic lately, but hopefully this four hour marathon makes up for it. We spend a healthy two hours talking to resident toy expert Mark Bellomo about G.I. Joe and the toy industry in general, and complement that great interview with some looks at recent G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club announcements, plus a look back at 2013 and a look ahead to next year.

As many of us suspected, the rampant rumors of a Channing Tatum “Duke” revival were taken somewhat out of context during an interview with upcoming G.I. Joe 3 director Jon Chu. In speaking with Coming Soon, he elaborates on his comments a bit:
CS: I’ve heard rumors that you’re trying to figure out how to bring Channing Tatum to “G.I. Joe,” which may be tough, considering he’s dead.
Chu: It all gets carried away again. They asked me about Channing and I don’t know. You never know in these movies, and that’s all I said, and suddenly it became “Channing Tatum might be back.” To me, every possibility is open and we’re writing the script right now and we’re figuring everything out. It’s an extremely low possibility when you kill somebody like that, it’s pretty much it, but you never know with “G.I. Joe.” We did that with Storm Shadow, too.
So as we can all see, don’t necessarily anticipate a big Tatum return.
Perhaps the more interesting discussion about G.I. Joe 3, though, revolves around filming for the upcoming motion picture:
CS: Is that something you might be far enough along on that you’ll be shooting next year? Or is it too early to tell?
Chu: I think we’re going to be shooting next year. We’re pretty motivated to get that up.
So, a mere 2 years after filming for the second film we’re going to be immersed in the process of filming G.I. Joe 3? Yeah, I’ll take it!

I would like to take a moment to wish everyone a very Happy Holiday season.
Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Festivus or just enjoy the festive Holiday season, we wish you the best, and please take a moment to think of those who are less fortunate this time of year. No, there are no potential G.I. Joes to go under the tree this year, but there are a lot of other reasons to celebrate, and hopefully every one of you has a terrific holiday.
Even with some slow G.I. Joe news, I greatly appreciate each and every person who stops by the site and spends just a few minutes sharing their life with me and this site.
Happy Holidays!

by generalsjoes | Dec 23, 2013 | G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero
One of the most inventive G.I. Joe themed sites over the past couple of years, 3DJoes set a lofty goal ahead of themselves. A goal to acquire and 3D scan every single vintage Real American Hero figure for their stunningly awesome 3D Joes gallery.
Well, it took a while, but the job is done, and 3DJoes announced via their Twitter page tonight that they have now completed the full run of ARAH figures from 1982 – 1994! This is an amazing accomplishment, so let’s all give the folks at 3DJoes some big props, and while you’re at it, support their site by picking up one of their posters. It’s a small way we can show our support and help offset the costs associated with the 3D image capture software.
Congrats to Carson and 3DJoes for this great accomplishment!

In what can only be described as a surprise, the third shipment of the G.I. Joe Collectors Club Figure Subscription Service has started hitting mailboxes across the United States.
Most folks believed that the shipments would likely continue after the holidays, but some lucky folks have gotten theirs early.
I will refrain from spoiling the surprise here, but you can find the answers you’re looking for at HISSTank.com.
I know I’ve been lax on posting reviews for these, but trust me, this will pick up. I’m hoping to get all six reviews posted before the end of the year. Look out for them!

Somewhat surprising to us, many folks have been asking if we could do a screening of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation film with our own commentary…well, since G.I. Joe news is so slow, we figured what better time than now! Join Gary, Justin, and Mike as they watch the entire G.I. Joe: Retaliation Extended Action Cut on Blu-Ray and give their thoughts and opinions throughout the entire film.
We tried to keep sports metaphors to a minimum, but no promises about childish humor.
