Convention Exclusive pricing structure and some more images

spiderpumpkin from HissTank has come through again with some pictures and details of the convention exclusive items that are being purchased as I type.  This appears to be the lowdown (and what an expensive lowdown it is!):

  • Blades w/ SAF Gyrocopter: $28.00
  • JUMP 2-Pack w/ Starduster and Manleh: $45.00
  • 3-Pack w/ Sgt. Shimik, Sgt. Redmack, and Sgt. Topson: $65.00
  • 12″ Crimson Guard: $50.00
  • Crimson Command Copter: $30.00
  • Joe or COBRA Weapon Set: $8.00 (still no inclination on exactly what this contains)

Actually, in all honesty, the prices aren’t terrible…well, except that 12″ Crimson Guard.  Yikes.  I can appreciate the production costs and the limited run, but that’s far and away the most expensive parachute figure ever.  It’s a beautiful figure, but you’re definitely paying for it.  The other items are about standard for Convention stuff…

spiderpumpkin also posts some great pics of the filecards and stuff at his photo gallery, which I have mirrored below.

2009 G.I. Joe Convention Souvenier Images online now!

Mere hours after the news of which figures were being included in the souvenier set at the 2009 G.I. Joe International Collectors’ Convention in Kansas City, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club has posted images of the souvenier sets that are being sold at the convention tonight!  These figures and vehicles take a decidedly international theme, using some very cool tooling parts and some really neat camouflage schemes.  Once again, the line up is as follows:

  • JUMP 2-Pack w/ Starduster and Manleh (LE 650)
  • 3-Pack of Sgt. Shimick, Sgt. Topson, and Sgt. Redmack (LE 650)
  • Crimson Command Copter (LE 400)
  • Gyro-Copter w/ Blades (LE 500)
  • G.I. Joe and COBRA Weapons Set (LE 1,000)
  • 12″ Crimson Guard Parachute figure

Once again, these go on sale when you pick up the full Crimson Strike Team or Eight Legs of Danger set at the Convention tonight.  You can see the images here, or I’ve also mirrored them below.

Some more information from the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club regarding the souveniers

Sorry for the influx of G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club related news, but I’ve had some time to dig through the site, so I’m uncovering a few things…  I’ve seen many questions all over the ‘net regarding the Joe Con, so I just wanted to remind folks to check out the GIJoeCon.com FAQ Page for updates to all your questions and concerns.

Also, “The Commander” has posted some answers to a few questions on the GIJCC Message boards as well:

“1) No fuchsia colors

2) Viper has version 2 “fixed” arms

3) Hasbro limited our 25A mold usage and several of your suggested figure options were “In Production” at the time.”

So…it sounds like using the 25A tooling was a Hasbro dictation?  I know it’s easy to cast stones (I certainly have cast my share this year) but I guess we should remember there are several legal and production hoops that the Club has to weave through during the Convention planning process that none of us have any idea about.

I still stand by my opinion on the Con Exclusives this year, but it is at least some food for thought.

2009 G.I. Joe Convention Brochure is now online

Email just came in from the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club that the convention brochure is online now.

In the brochure, they outline what to expect for the convention, and of course, give us a rundown of the convention exclusives.  This year, I am saddened to report, the 15-figure convention set is a 25th Anniversary reproduction of the Crimson Strike Team from 2002.

As a big vintage fan, the G.I. Joe Club figures are one of my most sought after and strongly desired figures of the entire year.  I eagerly await pictures and details online and in the newsletter so I can see what great new concepts and new ideas the Club has up their sleeves this year.  And now we’re getting 25th Anniversary reproductions of figures I already have?  No new characters, new stories, or new ideas?  One word:  Disappointment.

Utter and total disappointment.  Pictures of 25th Anniversary Tomax and Xamot figures have been floating around Asian auction sites for a while, and I continued to tell myself that the Club wouldn’t do that.  They’ve always supported the vintage fan and they’ve always told us that their medium of choice was the vintage “o-ring” style.  I am totally and completely disappointed by this choice.

They mention that the souveniers will feature members from the highly sought after “international teams”.  So, in other words, probably more 25th Anniversary repaints colored up like foreign exclusives.

I’ve been coasting on a “Resolute” high for the past 4 hours, and this is just a kick in the gut.  Bummer.
