by generalsjoes | Jan 27, 2012 | G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe 2, G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation, G.I. Joe: The Movie
In the trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation a specific scene with a mysterious individual jumping a motorcycle and firing a machine gun brought about some questions…who was it? What were they doing? What the heck were they riding?
Well a couple of those questions have been answered, courtesy of the 80s Tees Facebook Page!
The folks at 80s Tees posted on Facebook saying they’d seen some unfinished footage for G.I. Joe: Retaliation because of their licensing arrangement with the G.I. Joe brand. This is what they had to say on Facebook:
“One of the best parts of my job is that every once in a while I get to feel like a bit of a Hollywood insider. This is because licensed product needs to be prepared before a movie gets released. Earlier this week I was treated to some unfinished scenes from GI Joe Retaliation. I can tell you that it looks like a ton of fun, and it’s packed with great action movie actors. It is now one of my more anticipated summer movies for 2012.”
Sounds promising! Of course along with this great description, 80s Tees also provided a great image of the Cobra motorcycle that was featured in the trailer! Very cool! Check out the mirrored image below, and be sure to check out 80s Tees as well.

A big thanks, too, to Fred from JoeBattleLines for pointing this out!

As part of the Geekcast Radio Network, we were asked to come up with some “Top 5” and “Bottom 5” G.I. Joe items for 2011 as part of a yearly recap episode. Well, the awesome guys at GCRN have allowed us to post our portion of the recap show as a stand alone on our Podbean Page. Not a real long show, but a nice little bonus for folks who are feeding for more WOJM. Hit up the embedded player below as well:
Along with this “lost episode”, Gary, the editing king, has also been posting some great outtakes on the
Facebook page. These are things that were cut from final recorded episodes. Check out the
What’s on Joe Mind Facebook page for full details.
Good stuff here and kudos to Gary for getting it all together and posted! Keep checking our Facebook page to see what other little gems get lost on the cutting room floor.

Talk about jumping the gun a bit…
With most reports saying that G.I. Joe: Retaliation figures aren’t hitting until May, it seems very strange that shelf tags might already start appearing for the initial wave of toys, but David Willis of Shortpacked apparently has seen them at his local Meijer store in Ohio.
You can see his Foursquare Check In, and I’ve also mirrored the image below.

What does it mean? A whole lot of nothing, but I’m giddy for G.I. Joe: Retaliation news, so I’m talking about it anyway. Toy Fair in 2 weeks!
EDIT – As Jay from Toy News International has said, it’s even more likely just left over shelf tags from the first film, especially with a $6.97 price tag. But hey, shameless news grab! Go me.
by generalsjoes | Jan 26, 2012 | G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe: Renegades, Podcasts
One of the reasons why G.I. Joe: Renegades was such a great show is likely due to the exceptional writing team in charge of the show. Star Wars: The Clone Wars veteran Henry Gilroy was at the top of the writers’ food chain alongside Marty Isenberg, who was one of the brainchildren behind Transformers: Animated.
In a recent episode of Star Wars themed podcast The Forcecast, Henry Gilroy came on to talk a bit about his work on Clone Wars, and also revealed some juice about the potential future of G.I. Joe: Renegades. Hint – there isn’t one. 🙁
You can check out the episode right here, and the Renegades talk is very brief (around the 58 minute and 54 second mark). I’ve also transcribed the information below…with a healthy dose of paraphrasing, so definitely listen to the episode for the accurate phrasing.
The Forcecast: Season 2 of Renegades, when are we going to see it?
Henry Gilroy: Actually, you’re probably not going to… if you watch Renegades and saw the new trailer for G.I. Joe 2, it’s basically the same plot. The next incarnation of G.I. Joe animated is probably going to have something to do with the movie.
The Forcecast: I’m really disappointed about G.I. Joe…
Henry Gilroy: There’s been talk of maybe… doing something to tie up the series, which may or may not happen…we can always hold out hope for Renegades.
So, really kind of confirmed what we’d already suspected. G.I. Joe: Renegades isn’t on so much of a “hiatus” as a “retirement” with the next iteration (if there is one) focusing more on the Retaliation universe.
Gilroy also mentions that he is leaving Hasbro to work on another project..a Hulk animated series with Paul Dini. So it sounds like whatever next version of G.I. Joe animation there might be, he won’t be involved, which is a shame.
Thanks very much to Paul Timmermans who left the info on the What’s on Joe Mind Facebook page.
by generalsjoes | Jan 26, 2012 | G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe 2, G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation, G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes, G.I. Joe: The Movie
Well, he doesn’t say much, but he does talk just a bit about G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and how it’s different than filming for television and his opinion on the content of this new film. The interview is over on Collider, and the important G.I. Joe related parts are below:
How did you end up getting involved with G.I. Joe 2?
GOGGINS: Well, Lorenzo [di Bonaventura] just approached me. He had been a fan since The Shield, and he said, “I’m doing this big budget movie and I’ve got this role I want you to come play.” If you can bounce back and forth between a studio movie or a big action movie, likeCowboys & Aliens or G.I. Joe, and you balance that out, if you’re so lucky, with a wonderful television show or working with Steven [Spielberg], what better career can you have? One of the reasons why I wanted to do Justified so badly, or wanted to continue once we got up and going, was that I didn’t have to live in pain, every single day. On The Shield, for seven years, I was emotionally fucking wrecked. It was rare that we were just laughing. For the last five years, especially, it was really painful. Justified is lighter in tone, and it’s nice to be around that and show up to work and wear that hat. It’s the same thing for movies. G.I. Joe was fun.Lincoln was serious. I’m going to go do Quentin Tarantino’s movie (Django Unchained), and that’s going to be seriously fun. Once you’re at the buffet table, you just sample everything. That makes for a well-balanced life.
Was part of the appeal of the G.I. Joe sequel the fact that it’s more grounded in reality, this time around, and not so cartoony?
GOGGINS: Yeah, it’s a very, very big part of it. Just because of my personality, for me, comedy comes from pessimism, more often than not, and from a real place. In some ways, I wish I could tell a joke. I’m not good at telling a joke, but I can say a line in a certain way that makes people uncomfortable because they don’t know whether to laugh or not, and I love that comedy. That’s my favorite comedy, when it’s grounded in truth. And, I think G.I. Joeis going to be a really good film.
Personally, I’m a huge fan of Walt Goggins, and have loved him in pretty much everything I’ve seen him in, so no complaints here, even if he is playing what seems to be a relatively minor role (Warden Nigel James).
Hit up Collider to check out the rest of the interview.
