Check those showtimes! G.I. Joe: Retaliation cleared to release even earlier?

There’s been some hubbub about the G.I. Joe: Retaliation release date (yes, even above and beyond that pesky 9 month delay).  The initial release date was March 29th, which is next Friday.  Then trailers and TV Spots started mentioning March 28th, and I think most folks (myself included) assumed that meant late night showings for the 29th premiere.

Then scattered mentions of March 27th started spreading out there, and I confirmed with a few theaters in my area that the film would actually be released on March 27th.

But, wait.  That’s not all.  I hit up Fandango pretty regularly to see when local showings are, and as of yesterday evening, I was able to purchase a ticket for a 7:00pm show on March 26th.  Other GeneralsJoes readers are confirming the information.  So if you’re as excited as I am to see G.I. Joe: Retaliation in theaters, I strongly recommend you hit up your favorite theater’s website, or Fandango.com and check that release date.  You may get your G.I. Joe: Retaliation fix even earlier than originally suspected.

Heck, we’ve waited nine months, I’ll gladly jump at the chance to catch it a couple of days early!

GeneralsJoes reviews G.I. Joe Kre-O Battle Platform and Thunderwave Jet Boat

New G.I. Joe: Retaliation Land, Sea, & Air Featurette

Courtesy of Fandango.com we have a great new featurette showcasing all of the great hardware and instruments of destruction found within the G.I. Joe: Retaliation film universe.  Interspersed between clips of said destruction, Jon Chu gives a bit of insight into production of the film and the use of certain iconic vehicles.

There is tons of great new vehicle footage throughout this featurette… some really incredible looking battle sequences between the Ripsaw, the HISS, and others.  Wow.  Wow wow wow.  Check it out at Fandango.com, or it’s also embedded below.

MARCH 28th I NEED YOU NOW PLEEZ.

GeneralsJoes reviews IDW’s G.I. Joe: Special Missions #1

G.I. Joe: Special Missions from its earliest onset sounded sort of like a continuation of the main G.I. Joe title from IDW.  Chuck Dixon writing, a very military themed book with Scarlett and Mainframe leading a small team…it sounded like pretty much what the main G.I. Joe book has been, especially over the past year.

Now getting my hands on the first issue, I find that assumption to be mostly correct.  In fact, the storyline in Special Missions is a direct continuation of the final Target: Snake Eyes story from the last run at IDW.  To check out my full review, click the read the rest of the story link below:

Nine thrilling days to go, and reason 9 that G.I. Joe: Retaliation is going to ROCK

The news is coming fast and furious… premieres across the world, movie scores being released.  Posters, movie clips, interviews.  It’s crazy!  Who would have thought nine months ago that the excitement and enthusiasm would be right back up at maximum with G.I. Joe: Retaliation making it’s big return.

Twitziller focuses his attention today on the reason for the delay, which has caused some controversy among the fandom and among audiences across the country.  Will the change be worth it?  Only time will tell.  Thankfully, not much time to wait!

#09:

Before I go into the whole 3D conflict and conundrum…  look at that picture up there.  Do you see those Cobra logos in the throwing stars?  How freaking AWESOME is that?  Kudos to Twitziller for picking up on that, I haven’t seen anyone else mention it.

As for 3D itself… is it a fad?  Yeah, maybe.  But it’s a fad that’s been going on 50 years now, and has made a resurgence in recent years.  And apparently it is huge Internationally.  Judging by the world wide scope of the press tour and premiere schedule, the folks promoting G.I. Joe: Retaliation are paying a lot of attention to the International market.  That’s smart.  Yes, I know G.I. Joe is “A Real American Hero” and I think that’s a big part of it’s appeal, but if promoting it this heavily worldwide can earn the film an extra few hundred million dollars, I’m willing to make some concessions on that fact.

Jon Chu’s vast experience with 3D production enabled the film crew to take existing footage and engineer it better for 3D, especially with some of the focal point fight scenes, like the ninja mountain battle.  Ultimately the success or failure of the 3D conversion and the financial gain from it may not even be measurable, but let’s all hope it makes enough impact to make G.I. Joe a viable brand again going forward.

GeneralsJoes Reviews IDW’s G.I. Joe #2 (Season 3)

I’m not sure how I feel about the whole “season” breakdown when it comes to comics, but it does help keep things straight, especially when three major restructurings have happened over the past few years.  Considering IDW has been keeping the same continuity, the only way things can really be divided is by “Season” so in that regard I think it makes sense.

Issue #1 worked towards building this new “universe” so to speak, and now that G.I. Joe is in the thick of it, this issue serves to continue moving the story along a bit, while also trying to build some of these new personalities.
