Follow Gyre Viper on Twitter for some great RAH and modern intel

Over the past few years, Gyre-Viper has become pretty well known throughout the community mostly for his early modern samples that he gets his hands on and then showcases for the rest of us.  However, one thing he hasn’t been getting much credit for lately is his ability to dig out some awesome stuff from the past.

Everyone’s work on the excellent JoeDeclassified Spec Ops podcast has brought some of those age old mysteries back to the forefront.  Meanwhile, Gyre-Viper has also been posting some great tidbits via his Twitter account.  Just this week we got some great pictures of concept art for Chuckles as well as a great inter-office communication which reveals that perhaps the Special Missions Brazil set in 1986 changed somewhere along the way.  It’s all good stuff, and I’m certain we’re going to get even more good stuff out of upcoming episode of JDSO.

Check out some of the mirrored images below, and follow Gyre-Viper on Twitter to see more of the great behind-the-scenes intel.  I promise more stuff is coming, and from what I hear, a question that’s been on fans’ minds for the past 25 years will be answered on an upcoming episode.  Can’t beat it.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation early sample-palooza with G.I. Joe and Cobra Troopers

As we discussed a short while ago, eBay has started brimming with early samples of the upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation figures, and now some folks stateside are starting to get these samples in hand.  The result is some very cool and detailed images showcasing some neat aspects we may not have seen before.

First, over at Carded Heroes, Jay takes a good look at the upcoming G.I. Joe Trooper.  I’ve mirrored just a few images below, but you should definitely go to the source, as there are a ton of images there.

These pictures only serve to further infatuate me with this new Joe Trooper.  The accessories are amazing, and I love the fact that you can put pretty much all of his weapons on the figure itself.  Such a bad ass looking troop builder.

Next, on the ToyVerse, Troynos has turned his camera towards the Cobra Trooper, revealing some more great details there, too.  I love the consistency between this figure and the Retaliation Storm Shadow.  They look very similar (though I don’t think they use the same tooling).  Again, I mirrored a few images below, but many more are available directly at the ToyVerse.

Looks like things will be heating up over the next 6 – 8 weeks leading up the G.I. Joe: Retaliations mass release at retail.  Looking forward to it!

What’s on Joe Mind Episode 48 is Online

It’s the “All Kevin All the Time” episode!

Featuring Kevin Watts who comes on the show to talk about the HAZARD HISS Tank and the New Jersey Collector Con, and of course also featuring the immortal Kevin Michael Richardson (Roadblock from G.I. Joe: Renegades) interview which fills up the back half of the episode.    This is the “family friendly” version of the Kevin Michael Richardson interview, if you want to hear the uncensored version, don’t forget to hit up our Facebook Page.

For the full version of Episode 48, check out our Podbean Page or just listen to the embedded player below.  As always, the show notes can be found after the jump.

G.I. Joe Collectors Club reveals carded G.I. Joe: Retaliation Storm Shadow

The latest image of a carded G.I. Joe: Retaliation figure has been unveiled, and this time around, it’s Storm Shadow!  Featuring the same uninspired artwork and package design that we’ve seen from the beginning, at least the figure inside still looks pretty bad ass.

In hand images of G.I. Joe Trooper from G.I. Joe: Retaliation

We’ve seen scattered pictures on eBay, and of course from Toy Fair itself, but overseas message board ACToys has posted what appear to be the first in hand pictures of a release-ready G.I. Joe Trooper.  At least assumption is this is a release ready figure.  The images also have pictures of the packaging as well as the figure itself.

Of note is the fact that there isn’t a filecard on the package, which I did mention in Toy Fair reporting…but this fact caused Kevin to go into a wild nerd rage spasm during our last What’s on Joe Mind recording.  A moment to look forward to for sure.

For now, though, simply revel in the images of the G.I. Joe Trooper, which actually make the figure look really nice.  Instead of the cloth blue cape that we saw before (which was confusing everyone as to its purpose), this version of the Trooper has a plastic molded cape closer in color to the figure itself, which frankly makes a big difference.  That blue looked pretty out of place.  Now I’m not a massive fan of the idea of G.I. Joe Troop builders, but I’ll be damned if this isn’t a pretty nice looking figure.  Also of note, he has double-jointed knees and appears to have those glorious rocker ankles, too.  Excellent.

Check out the images at ACToys, and also mirrored below.

G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club April Newsletter Sneak Preview!

With both the March and April newsletters running behind schedule, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club has posted a terrific sneak preview of their upcoming April issue on GIJoeClub.com!

I’ve gone on record saying that the newsletter has been hugely improved as of late, mostly pointing to the excellent comic contained within, featuring very cool cameos by many familiar GIJCC universe characters.  Looks like this continues on in April, where we see a great preview page of the comic featuring Nano-BAT, Footloose, Jammer, Gaucho, Quarrel, and Sparta!  An awesome selection of GIJCC themed designs, and I love seeing them in comic book form.  This is pretty much what I envisioned when I produced the dio comics for the newsletter a few years ago, but unfortunately my own schedule prevented me from continuing past 3 story arcs.  I commend the folks doing this comic for doing some great work here.

Check out the sneak preview on GIJoeClub.com!
