…and it’s a doozy. Five pages, over THREE HUNDRED images and enough words to make you mad.
Folks were asking for it, and now you’ve got it whether you like it or not. Check out the review at the G.I. Joe Collectors Club Review page, or by clicking the link below. Hope you have some time to kill.
Not content to merely represent the hidden world of G.I. Joe at the official G.I. Joe Convention on an annual basis, this year, the guys from JoeDeclassified will be going north of the border! Yes, apparently their parole has been lifted and homeland security is letting them leave the country.
Not only will JoeDeclassified have a great booth at the Canadian JoeCon, but for the first time ever, they will be holding a seminar at the show discussing many of the hidden gems of the G.I. Joe universe. Secrets will be revealed from the past 30 years, both in the booth and at the seminar. There will be items shown in the panel that are not on display at the booth, and there will be items in the booth that will not be seen at the seminar, so going to both will be the best way to see everything that JoeDeclassified has to offer.
Many people have personally sent Gyre-Viper select pieces from their collections and the oldest 3 3/4″ prototype known to be in existence will be present at the show. This is a must see. These are all items that will be publicly unveiled at some point, but for the immediate future, the Canadian JoeCon is the only way to see all of this in living color. History may be getting re-written 30 years after the fact, make sure you are present to hear and see all about it!
Below I have mirrored some images, which will serve as “teasers” for product being shown at Canadian JoeCon. Don’t miss out! For all of the latest info, keep checking CanadianJoeCon.com and a huge thanks to Mike for inviting JoeDeclassified to take part. Obviously big thanks also go to JoeDeClassified.com themselves to keep up to date on all these great pieces of history throughout the G.I. Joe line.
Getting down to the nitty gritty, which is where you’ll find this particular figure on most people’s want lists. To be honest, if I had been asked a month ago what my most wanted figure would be, this guy would be pretty much have hit the top of the list without any competition.
Well, when Hasbro unveiled the Concept Case at this year’s G.I. Joe Convention suddenly there was a LOT of competition. Vehicles, figures, ideas… it almost relegated this guy to the “been there, done that” pile. But not quite.
One close up look at this figure will tell you that even for folks who don’t really care for the character are still getting a very good G.I. Joe toy.
3 – G.I. Joe: 30th Anniversary Kwinn
Of course one might ask, among a team of heavily armored, heavily equipped, future tech sporting super-soldiers, where does an Eskimo with shorts, a khaki shirt, and a weasel skull necklace fit in? That question has obviously been asked a lot, especially by Hasbro themselves as this poor guy (who is a fully tooled and ready for release figure) still has not gotten an opportunity to be released yet.
I think Hasbro pushed fans near the breaking point when they actually displayed him in a case full of unused (and perhaps never-to-be-used) concepts, but based on conversations with Hasbro at JoeCon, I think chances of Kwinn being released are probably around 85 – 90%. This is not a guy you need to worry about never getting your hands on. Regardless, he still stands proud pretty close to the top of my Top Ten list. Admittedly, though, based on responses I’m seeing from the Concept Case survey, I am in the minority for putting him this far back, which should be good news for all of you Kwinn fans out there.
Just wanted to drop a line to remind folks that the Concept Case Survey is still rolling along, and Round 1 will end Friday, July 20th. Responses from Round 1 will be tabulated and I will post the actual SurveyMonkey charting to ensure 100% transparency.
Based on those results, I will set up Round 2 of the Survey to kick off, most likely next Monday, where the winners of Round 1 can face off against each other to get an idea of what the fans want!
Meanwhile, propaganda has started appearing online…the political machine is already at work. Ladies and gentlemen…Joe fans…I encourage you to vote with your hearts. But if you’re easily swayed…
Please be aware, as a neutral party, I believe in equal opportunity…if you have a candidate you want to endorse, find a creative way to express that, and let me know!
From one Convention right into another. Fresh off of our return to normal broadcasting schedule from the 2012 G.I. Joe Convention, the crew from What’s on Joe Mind immediately jumps to the next convention, this time the familiar ComicCon in San Diego.
With not much G.I. Joe news likely there, we bring in Arune Singh to talk about Marvel’s presence there and what we might expect from the House of Ideas. We also bring in Moira Hunger to talk in more detail about the IDW seminar at JoeCon and comic nerdery in general.
But it’s not all about Comics, there is a healthy helping of G.I. Joe talk as well. Check out our latest episode on our Podbean Page, or via the embedded players below. Show notes as always are after the jump.
I’ve been lax on the updates throughout the weekend, my apologies. Promised the wife it was going to be a “work on the house” weekend, and it was!
While I certainly kept my eyes on ComicCon to see what exciting new things were slated for the rest of this year and next, there wasn’t a whole lot of new G.I. Joe information. This isn’t surprising, considering JoeCon was such a short time ago.
However, some G.I. Joe sites who had folks at the show spent a few minutes talking to Hasbro, and got some great information. I’ve linked them below:
YoJoe asked some great questions of Mr. DePriest, discovering that yes, Wave 1 G.I. Joe: Retaliation figures would be restocked next year, and they also dug into the whole Ross situation and the Dollar General exclusives. Definitely hit up that link above, some really great information.
The Terror Drome also had reps in attendance who spent a few minutes with Derryl and they asked about the whole SDCC/HTS exclusive situation, but most importantly, the question about articulation on vehicle drivers got a great response:
“DD: Yes. That’s the other thing I’ve heard. I know fans are not happy by far to put it mildly with the articulation that we did on the drivers. I want to look at getting those drivers back out with more articulation and you have my commitment that we won’t be doing these lesser articulated drivers anymore. Whether that means vehicles come with or without drivers, I don’t know that answer yet. But we’re going to try to correct that.”
So it looks like Derryl and Hasbro are going to either try to retrofit some of the drivers with better articulation, or just may end up dropping driver figures from certain vehicles going forward. The fans have spoken… I just hope everyone remembers the outcry here when Hasbro starts selling vehicles without drivers in 2013 (if they do). I’ve seen many fans say that they would rather buy a vehicle with no driver than a vehicle with a driver with restricted articulation, so we’ll have to see what 2013 brings us.
A big thanks to these folks for bringing the news to those of us who couldn’t attend.
