Sideshow Collectibles has discharged G.I. Joe…at least for now

The Year of the Snake has provided some of the best G.I. Joe Sideshow product we have seen to date, which is why it’s such a shame that G.I. Joe’s obscurity from retail has now extended to Sideshow Collectibles 12″ offerings.  At least for the next six months.

Sideshow Collectibles has announced that they will have no new G.I. Joe related news at SDCC this year, which means nothing of note until 2015 at the earliest.  As someone who just bought Major Bludd and is slated to get Destro in the mail on Wednesday, I’m disappointed by the news, but not necessarily surprised.

A quick perusal on the G.I. Joe section at SideshowToy.com will show you that many of their offerings are still in stock, and most of those offerings have been there for a while.  So, stay tuned, perhaps something cool will be coming next year, but for now, anyway, the disappearance of G.I. Joe at the 12″ scale has been extended to all formats.  Sound taps now.

Thanks to YT24 on Twitter for the heads up.

Next Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. Stretch Goal is within reach!

As I currently write this, the Virtuvian H.A.C.K.S. Kickstarter campaign sits at about $116,000 and is reaching towards the next stretch goal at $120,000.  Once that next stretch goal is unlocked, hungry toy fans will get the Underworld Warrior and Sthenos (Medusa’s sister) unlocked!

I’ve mentioned both of these characters before, but as I was taking a close up look at Sthenos today, I noticed something quite interesting.

If you check the image out below, on the left you’ll see some concept art for an unused “Pythona” action figure, art by Ron Rudat.  On the right, you’ll see the input art for Sthenos.

I gotta say that’s pretty awesome.  It looks like (intentional or not) this Pythona art is reflected in a couple of cool ways with Sthenos.  And of course, Sthenos has that amazing Cobra-themed command staff.  Some real fun stuff in this one, even if you’re not a mythology fan.  A little something for everyone.

So, think about supporting the Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. Kickstarter campaign.  We’ll have to see what other Easter Eggs are hanging out there for us!

If you’re like me and were a bit disappointed about the Concept Case Hit & Run, the G.I. Joe Collectors Club is taking feedback in regards to a possible deco change!

You have to be a G.I. Joe Collectors Club member to vote, but if you are, consider going to the Collectors Club forums and sharing your thoughts.

G.I. Joe Collectors Club brings out FSS 3.0 Hit & Run

If you were in the audience during the reveal for FSS 3.0 at JoeCon this year, you may have heard a high-pitched girly screech when they showed the entry for Hit & Run up on the slideshow.

Yeah, that was me.  I’m not ashamed.

Today, the Collectors Club revealed a digital mock up for the Hit & Run figure, and…  yeah, I don’t know.

I thought everyone had pretty much agreed that the concept case Hit & Run was the definitive version of the character and the version that the fans latched onto.  Obviously I latched onto it.  When the Collectors Club released the Night Force version for the Convention two years ago, I was disappointed, but figured maybe a concept case version was down the road. When the GIJCC showed the Concept Case version as a specific example during the presentation, I thought that time had come.  I was excited to say the least.

Today, the Collectors Club revealed their mock up… and I can’t help but come away underwhelmed.

Obviously the most  glaring ommission is the green skin.  I’m not sure why that was left off, as I would think it wouldn’t require an extra paint application if the plastic was just produced in that green color.  Even if it did require another paint application, the green skin is pretty much Hit & Run’s defining characteristic.  That seems like a weird thing to leave absent.  I actually find myself a little more upset about the parts recipe.  I was thinking maybe the Club would switch up the parts a bit and actually give us what the Concept Case did… namely the Firefly torso and different upper legs.  I know that’s a small issue, but those elements are part of what made the concept case version so excellent.

So instead we’re left with a repaint of the Night Force version, again without the green skin.  I’m sure there are reasons why this decision was made, I hope to find out what they are.  No matter the reasons for it, though, the end result is the crown jewel of FSS 3.0 in my mind has left me with a bitter taste in my mouth.  Perhaps others will make up for it.

What’s on Joe Mind Episode 94 brings Bill Ratner and Arune Singh back to the mike

We are painfully aware that we’re not recording quite as often as we did in the past, but we’re trying to make every one of them count!

For Episode 94 we excitedly welcomed back two long time friends of What’s on Joe Mind, Bill Ratner (the voice of Flint) and Arune Singh (Executive Director of Television Communications, Marvel Entertainment) to have some very different discussions.

Mr. Ratner provides awesome detail about G.I. Joe history, while also breaking down his exciting new endeavor at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.  Meanwhile, Arune celebrates Transformers return to movie screens this summer (and the debut of the IDW comic book) with a spirited discussion about how a G.I. Joe/Transformers team up could work.

As always, check out the latest episode on Podbean, or through the embedded player below.  Show notes after the jump!

GeneralsJoes Reviews Acid Rain Sol Commander and Winged Victory

Ever since Acid Rain toys first appeared, I’ve been dying to do reviews of some of them, and GeneralsJoes reader Daniel actually volunteered to let me borrow a few of his figures so I could do so!

I cannot thank him enough.  Getting my hands on the figures has proven to be an eye opening experience, as they feel of much better quality than I originally thought.  The articulation is pretty amazing, and while it does impact the aesthetics a little bit, I think it does so in an artistic way.

Anyway, check out my reviews!  I have them linked directly below.  These terrific looking Acid Rain toys can be currently purchased at Big Bad Toy Store!

Boss Fight adds army builder packs of stretch goal items – Kickstarter Update!

This is some news that’s sure to excite some Kickstarter supporters.  Just recently, the Boss Fight Studio Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. Kickstarter reached a milestone of $105,000 which unlocked a pair of Wave 2 figures – the Athenian Warrior and the Green Snake Gorgon:

Well, supporters were quite excited by this, and asked about the possibility of “Army Builder” packs for these two new figures.  Boss Fight Studios says YES!  They have just unlocked Army Builder packs for both the Athenian Warrior and the Green Snake Gorgon!  Go stock up, and build us up towards that $120,000 stretch goal!  When that stretch goal is unlocked, we’ll receive two MORE new figures, Stheno (Medusa’s sister) and the Underworld Warrior.  Stheno is vindictive, she’s furious at the gods’ mistreatment of Medusa, and did we mention she has cobras for hair?  Meanwhile, the Underworld Warriors are once living humans, now fallen warriors who serve in the armies of Hades. Their mission: to keep the Gorgons from overtaking the land of the dead itself.

We’re doing great here, let’s keep up the momentum!  My eye is still on STONE FIST!  Support the Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. Kickstarter now!

G.I. Joe Collectors Club FSS 3.0 Vypra!

As folks who have been reading my dio-story know, I’m a Vypra fan for sure, so I was looking forward to the FSS update quite a bit.  Vypra I thought was ripe for some interesting twists, just because she’s not a really familiar character and could certainly be well served by some intriguing updates.

As it turns out, the final result is a repaint of Jinx, which makes sense because that’s what the original was, but I won’t lie, I was hoping things might get  changed up a bit, since there weren’t many folks (besides me, that is) who were firmly attached to the character.

I do love her accessory pack out, though.  Check out GIJoeClub.com or the mirrored image below.

EDIT – As has been pointed out by a few helpful commentors below…  Vypra does indeed have Renegades Scarlett legs, which believe it or not, goes a certain distance towards redeeming the figure for me.  I would still have loved a slightly more elaborate paint scheme, and perhaps an unmasked head or something… something like we got with FSS 1.0 Jinx.  But still, I do like the actual boots and military legs.  That’s a nice touch.
