My buddies over at One-18th.com have posted another review from the Rise of COBRA, this time for Zartan, in his Military Policeman disguise. This is one figure that I haven’t picked up yet, and I’m honestly not certain if I will. I absolutely LOVE his weapons, but I’m just not convinced I want to drop $8.00 just for those. Still tempting, though.
See what Smokescreen thinks right here, and a few of the images are mirrored below.
Apparently Paramount has held its first advanced screening for the final cut of G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA, and a pair of reviews have been posted on AintitCoolNews!
The responses from both reviewers come back as should be expected…somewhat mixed. Complaints about wooden acting, some cheesy moments, but both reviewers agree that it wasn’t deep, but it WAS fun. And to me, that’s exactly what I wanted to hear. The first reviewer claims it was a better film than Transformers 2…
Click the “Read More” link below to read the actual reviews, which I’ve mirrored from the original site. Beware, there are a few spoilers in the reviews.
HissTank.com acts pretty fast…news just barely broke this morning of an apparent second wave of Target Exclusive vehicle/figure packs, and they’ve already got some high res images posted on their forums. I’ve also mirrored the images below. The sets consist of:
Air-Viper with Rocket Pack
I’m loving this one…the “Air-Viper” is painted up kind of like a Bronze Bomber, and it matches a somewhat updated paint scheme on the COBRA jetpack to boot. Not wild about that COBRA pack, but I’m happy to see more vintage stuff being moved over to the movie line.
Storm Shadow with Arashikage Cycle
Ehhh…it’s all right, I suppose. Wave 1 brought us a pretty crappy Snake Eyes with his Arashikage Cycle, and this one isn’t a whole lot better. For some reason I do kind of like the looks of that Stormy, but not enough to pick this one up.
COBRA Viper Commando with Serpent Armor
HELL. YES. I still find it funny that all the folks complaining about Accelerator Suits are getting fired up about the SNAKE Armor, which is a suit of armor that enhances the user’s abilities, remarkably like the Accelerator Suit that everyone has been decrying. Regardless, the suit looks BAD ASS in black and red, and every time I see a new picture of the Neo-Viper, I start wanting to buy the dang thing. I don’t own a single one yet, but I think they’ll pull me in, kicking and screaming. The red goggles and dark colors of this one are gorgeous.
Wet-Suit with the Dragonfish
Well, the Eel came with one in Wave 1, so I suppose the Joes need to combat it, eh? I do like this paint scheme for Wet-Suit, and I’m kind of getting into the idea of working these lower level Joes into the movie universe…but…I kind of liked the figure even better as Wetdown with the Flash mask. Sadly, apparently that’s not to be. Heh…kinda wonder why they didn’t get Wet-Suit done up in some Mission: Brazil colors, I think he still could have worked in the movie line that way.
Pretty interesting assortment. Target is really ramping up the Joe product this year, good for them! Love all the vintage homages and the obscureness.
San Diego ComicCon is just around the corner, and as always, Hasbro is front and center as part of the action. First and foremost on my mind is the great sampling of SDCC Exclusive toys, especially the ones by Hasbro. We’ve all seen the images of Destro and The Baroness, here are Hasbro’s Press Images themselves:

To check them out in full detail hit up Hasbro at booth #3213.
Above and beyond the excellent exclusives, click the “Full Story” link below for some events that may be of interest to G.I. Joe fans among us:
The TV Spots are hitting hot and heavy these days, as Spot #6 has just shown up on YouTube, courtesy of Adult Swim. Thanks to SNAKE EYES at HissTank for the heads up. New footage in this one, too!
EDIT – Actually, upon looking at this a few times, this looks a lot like the already revealed Trailer #3…I’m leaving it up, just for posterity, but maybe you shouldn’t get your hopes up too much. 😉 Thanks to tkprime for the eagle eyes.
Shin Densetsu over on HissTank.com breaks the news that there are some apparently new Target Exclusives on the horizon featuring some great vintage vehicles making their first re-appearence in a long while! These exclusives are:
COBRA Viper Commando w/ Serpent Armor
Wet Suit w/ Dragonfish
Storm Shadow w/ Arashikage Cycle
Air-Viper w/ Rocket Pack
The Serpent Armor appears to be a black repaint of the SNAKE Armor from the 80’s, and done up in a paint scheme similar to how they make their appearences in the upcoming video game. It’s tough to tell how the Viper Commando is changed, but he must be painted a bit differently. Wet Suit is in an apparent gray and black uniform, that almost looks like it might be the rumored “Wet Down” that was seen on eBay a little while ago. Storm Shadow in the red trim is the repaint we’ve seen here and there, and we’re getting yet another Air-Viper/Strato-Viper repaint, but with a very odd choice. The COBRA Jet Pack that hasn’t made an appearence since 1987. This seems like a bit of an odd choice, it’s never been a fan favorite, but it’s still cool to see. Just goes to show that nothing is off the table.
I’m astounding by the sheer volume of product that appears to be coming out this year…and we are just barely approaching ComicCon. I only hope that if there’s not much new revealed in San Diego that the fandom doesn’t get in an uproar with Hasbro…after all, there’s a TON of stuff they would have debuted there had images not leaked before hand. Let’s all keep things in perspective. 😉
Big thanks to WildWeasel from The Terror Drome for not only notifying me of this spot, but for actually hosting it on his YouTube account! Like yesterday, this TV Spot is chock full of new footage. AWESOME!
This is freaking great! I have, of course, updated the Rise of COBRA SuperPage with all of these latest tv spots as well.
I think this website for the Royal Purple/G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA promotion has been up for a while, but for some reason, we’re just noticing the vehicles section. But this vehicle section is absolutely bad ass. It has some great images and details for the vehicles featured in the film, many of which we haven’t heard of before! I’ve mirrored the images below for the following vehicles:
Brawler – An innocuous looking van on the outside, with high tech surveillance and weapons systems on the inside
Attack Helicopter – No name, just looks like a generic military assault copter
Howler – The VTOL troop transport that carries the Joe team through the air
RHINO – An armored Humvee looking thing
Rockslide – Familiar snowmobile attack vehicle that we’ve seen in toy form already
Scarab – The “Steel Crusher” going by its original name
Spyder – A very futuristic looking motorcycle (that looks a lot cooler than the upcoming “Snarler”)
The vehicles page can be found here with some nice details on these various weapons of war, and again, all images are mirrored below.
JoeBattleLines member warmachinex comes through again with another trio of three great high resolution images from The Rise of COBRA! The Duke one has been seen before, but the other two with Cover Girl are brand new as far as I know. Check out these awesome pics below.
I mentioned in my previous post about the TV Spot about the Aircraft Carrier that the Howler takes off from, and kind of wondered aloud whether or not there might be some sort of fan love worked in there… well, a screen grab on the Terror Drome confirms that this is the case.
