Perhaps it is… Phil Kost from JoeReloaded.com has passed the word along that he’s working in conjunction with IDW on a little “Guess the Character” thread with some great looking concept art for a never seen before character (in the new IDW universe, anyway). It seems to pretty obviously be Cobra Commander, though with a very different look.

The full art can be found over on JoeReloaded. Not sure of my thoughts on this one. I like that they carry over the mirrored helmet. I like the fangs and the lower support, but it almost seems too “bald” up top. That 3-piece suit is a bit of a strange choice, too, but we’ll see what scenario he makes his appearence in, perhaps it’ll make more sense. I’m sure he’ll have more than one “look” as well.
Thanks to Phil for the heads up!

I’ve been a bit behind the eight ball over the past couple of days while I deal with some home-related issues, but since I was posting the Resolute DVD review, I had to get something up there for the two most recent Gyre-Viper discoveries over at HissTank.com.
Man, I love seeing this stuff…both from an unproduced or pre-production perspective, but also because it gives us some great detail on figures that are “in the hopper”…and I was pretty psyched about that mail away Cobra Commander. Now, I’m way beyond psyched. This guy looks in SANE. The dark chrome red finish on the torso is cool enough, but that rough metallic facemask is just too cool for words. Much more imposing than the previous version. I really like it…more than I thought I would. Gotta love the removable twin-barrel machine gun from the HISS Tank drone, too. Check out the original thread, or the mirrored images below.

The Whirlwind stuff is cool, number one because we get a peek at the original paint scheme (at least a little bit) for the vehicle that was slated to come with Recondo. But at this point what really interests me is that Twin Battle Gun w/ Range-Viper. I know a lot of folks have been complaining about the green, but I love it. The Range-Viper has always been designed as a wilderness trooper, so the green and gray are awesome colors. I do think it will look a bit less “sparkly” in person…the coolest thing to me about this particular Range-Viper, though, is that it uses the Resolute Trooper as a base figure, so not only does it have some great articulation and design aesthetics, but it can be used as a “Death Squad” trooper of sorts in your Resolute universe. Oh, and I guess the Cobra Whirlwind repaint is okay, too. :shifty:
Check those out here, and below.

In conjunction with Sideshow’s “Spooktacular” event, GeneralsJoes was honored to be able to work with them to give away a free 12″ Cobra Commander from their amazing G.I. Joe toyline. The requirements were simple… just do up a custom of a G.I. Joe or Cobra character in a Halloween theme. But knowing that I alone wasn’t the customizing expert I used to be, I also enlisted the aid of JoeCustoms.com and a hand-picked group of their customizing gurus served as judges to pick the entry that best exemplified what we wanted to see.
There were a number of entries, which I’ve mirrored below:

Now, GeneralsJoes and JoeCustoms.com are proud to announce the winner of the Sideshow 12″ Cobra Commander… (Click the “Read the Rest of this Entry” link below)

What a difference some color makes… the initial Rise of Cobra version of Cobra Commander got universal disdain (though personally I thought it was a pretty cool, revolutionary new design) got this new, mail order version is getting pretty wide praise. And honestly, it freaking deserves it. Regardless of how much it does or doesn’t resemble Cobra Commander, that is one bad ass looking figure. The vac metallized mask, the chrome red torso…the staff, weapons, and nasty looking miniature HISS sentry? Hot damn that’s a cool looking figure.
It takes a lot to make me like Cobra Commander…there’s been so much ridiculous redundancy with this character over the past several years, seeing something new and cool is a very good thing in my book. Check out the mirrored images below. Holy crap it’s awesome. How cool will it look alongside the Crimson Neo-Vipers? The packaging is sick, too…

In conjunction with my buddies over at The Terror Drome, GeneralsJoes is jumping feet first into another contest, even before my Sideshow Collectibles contest has ended. The information follows below!

The Terror Drome and Generals Joes have teamed up to present The Hunt for Cobra Commander giveaway. We are giving away a copy of the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra 2-Disc DVD Set (courtesy of Paramount) and a Rise of Cobra Arctic Assault Snake Eyes figure. And a runner-up will win a Rise of Cobra Paris Pursuit Snake Eyes w/BLACK Timber variant figure.
So what do you have to do? You will need to hunt down Cobra Commander!
Each day between now and Monday (skipping Saturday, October 31st (Halloween)) we will post a clue to our Twitter feeds. You don’t need to have a Twitter account, just check either the Terror Drome’s or General Joes’ Twitter feed page at 3pm EST on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday for a “riddle/question” (ALL will be G.I. Joe themed). Figure out the answer to the riddle then search one of our sites for the answer to be found in a random post on one of the sites. That answer will be linked to an image.
Example: “He once cleaned teeth for a living.” / the answer “Dr. Mindbender” — so you would then search one of the sites for “Dr. Mindbender” and hunt for the link to the image.
You will need to collect all 5 images for each one is a piece to a bigger image. Once you have all 5 pieces, the first person to email them as either a whole image or individually to hunt4cc@theterrordrome.com will win the Grand Prize. The second person will be our runner-up.
This contest is open to readers & members of The Terror Drome and Generals Joes, but all are welcome to try! And since WildWeasel, joshdahl and I are the only ones that know the answers, and the locations of the images once they are posted, everyone is welcome to play. So, good luck hunting! The first clue will be available at 3pm EST on Wednesday, October 28th.
