Mystery Crimson Twin repaint appears on TaoBao

crimson_tomaxPopular Asian auction site TaoBao.com has posted an auction and picture for a mysterious themed repaint of the Crimson Twin Tomax action figure.  The figure is painted to resemble the 2002 Convention “Crimson Strike Team“.  Check out the auction here.

Considering Hasbro’s recent stance during the Q & A sessions in regards to vintage-themed repaints, it remains dubious as to whether or not this item will actually be released, or whether it was conceived and didn’t make the “cut” before the movie items start propagating.

Hasbro has indicated that vintage characters may be worked into the movie line in the movie “style” and considering this bears no resemblance to any kind of perceived movie style, I strongly doubt we’ll see this particular version of Tomax released at retail any time soon, though it’s an interesting item, nonetheless.

Thanks as usual to cmdrinchief of the Coil Club for the heads up.

Did I miss this? (G.I. Joe: COBRA #1 variant cover)

I’ve been trying to stay really on top of the news about G.I. Joe: COBRA, because it’s shaping up to be a pretty bad ass looking book.  But somehow this image of a variant cover eluded me until today.  Check it out:

Am I the only one totally seeing those guys in shadows as updated Crimson Guards?  That’s certainly what they look like to me.  I find it pretty interesting that the first real glimpse of COBRA we may get in this new IDW universe isn’t even in the main book.  I’m hoping the timeline here merges with the main book and we see some crossover.  I think that would be a pretty cool way to tie the books together and introduce COBRA to the main title in the process.

So, about those Dio-Stories…

GeneralsJoes was born many years ago with a very specific purpose and foundation.  The original Angelfire site (yes it’s still up, amazingly enough, and the profiles page and customs page can still be accessed) was originally a showcase for my customs that evolved into a figure profile and review site after I was the first person to find the new Joes at a local Toys “R” Us in late 2000.  From there, it spawned into my dio-story hub, while reviews continued along.

Some cool ass items that aren’t G.I. Joe

900411_press17-001I was never really into the Sideshow scene before G.I. Joe started getting their treatment, but as I looked into this company more and more, I get more and more impressed.  Granted, most of their offerings are still well out of my price range, but damn, I can’t argue about the quality.  I was drooling over the Storm Shadow a bit more today and came across this absolutely sickening Terminator Salvation John Connor figure.  Holy crap.  That is one damn impressive looking figure, even if he is from several years in the future.

His outfit looks fairly military in nature, but sort of “pimped out” enough to work in the G.I. Joe universe, and he is equipped to the tilt.  It doesn’t hurt that the movie looks absolutely kick ass as well.

With that earpiece, military gear, and fantastic machine gun, Christian Bale could instantly be a member of your G.I. Joe team.  One of the absolute coolest 12″ figures I’ve ever seen.  Gold.  He’s produced by Hot Toys and distributed by Sideshow, and if you’re interested, pre-order him:

Hasbro Q & A Answers for GeneralsJoes.com (Take 2)

The Hasbro Q & A answers for Round 1, 2009 are flying in…  the answers for GeneralsJoes.com are below, and don’t forget to check my Q & A page for all of the answers spread amongst the other sites as well!

For some reason this post wasn’t showing up in IE, so I’m resubmitting an article.

1) The fandom in general has been raving about the Resolute toys, and waits in eager anticipation for news or information about the animated feature. It was obviously going to be a major focus of Hasbro in 2009, but seems to have dropped off the map a bit.  How confident should the fandom be that the figures we have not yet seen will somehow get released prior to, or with the movie line?  In other words, can you ease our minds and tell us that we will indeed see the Resolute-themed toys in some form or function in 2009?

The team is still finalizing the plan for GI Joe Resolute animation with regards to when and where it will air.  With regards to the toys, you will see the Cobra 5-Pack in addition to Duke, Cobra Commander, and the Trooper.

2) Can you confirm once and for all that, for all intents and purposes, the “25th Anniversary” line is currently on hold as you make the move towards movie product?  It would seem pretty obvious that the rumored Waves 14 and15 have ceased production (while some figures are worked into the upcoming COBRA Island 7-Packs).  Fan uncertainty right now is at an all time high coming up towards the movie, and I think many folks are feeling as if they are being given a disservice simply due to a lack of information.  If we’re moving on to the movie stuff, fine, but can we please just get a definitive statement saying what the direction of the Anniversary line is at this point?

As we head into this summer, the classic GI Joe line will stop and the entire line will switch over to movie.  The rumored waves 14 and 15 are not coming in single packs, rather we took those figures and offered them in the classic 7-packs.  The 7-packs will be the only classic item offered during movie timing.

3) Normally by this point we’ve heard some mention of specific store exclusive product.  I realize you don’t show exclusive items at Toy Fair, is there any plan in place to start showing off some of the items that are destined to be store exclusives, or do we have to wait for SDCC or JoeCon?

The plan is to show the majority of exclusives for the first time at ComicCon.

G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club bringing their newsletters back online

The G.I. Joe Club just sent out an email outlining a plan to allow Officer-level member access to all 2008 newsletters as .PDF files over the next week.  Then by the end of the month, the Club promises to start getting the 2009 issues posted and available online on a more regular basis as well.

This is terrific news.  Losing the online newsletter was a big blow to Club members over a year ago, and it seems like its been a long, hard road back to getting them online again.  Sounds like we’re moving in the right direction, though, and I’m thrilled to hear it.  For more info on the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club, check out GIJoeClub.com.  The actual text of the email is quoted below:

“In addition, for the Officer’s Level members, over the next week we will be loading for your reference all of the 2008 Club Magazine pdfs.   By the end of the month, we will start putting up the 2009 mags in a new online readable format.”

Q & A’s rushing in!

Keep on checking the Q & A page as links are being furiously added!  Curiously, three major sites (HissTank, JoeBattleLines, and YoJoe) have not yet posted answers, but the vast majority of other sites have.  There are currently thirteen active links to various other forums for their answers.

A lot of it is the “same old same old” but at least with a strong showing of interest in Resolute and the COBRA Island 7-Packs, Hasbro will get the message that there is a demand for that stuff.

First on-screen look of masked Destro?

EDIT – Upon the request of Paramount Motion Pictures, I’ve removed the image that was leaked on other sites.  Sorry for the inconvenience!

Topless Robot has come through with a picture of what appears to be a masked Destro from the upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA motion picture.  This is unconfirmed information at this point, but seems to cooberate the look of the action figure that appeared on eBay March 11th.  Pic is mirrored below:
