More details emerge about 2010 Cobra Commander

Thanks to  bluesparrow from HissTank.com who reports that in the latest issue of Toy Fare, the previously revealed Mail Away Cobra Commander will not just be a mail away, but will also see limited retail release on the special Cobra themed card.  They mentioned August release dates for both Cobra Commander as well as the new Cobra H.I.S.S. tank, and also made mention of an upcoming single card Dusty and Alley-Viper!
Considering what we’ve seen from the Pursuit of Cobra stuff so far, I’m really excited to see what they’re doing with the Alley-Viper.  They are really ramping up the accessorization for this new Joe line it would appear, so here’s hoping we get something really bad ass to add to our Cobra armies.

GIJoeCon 2010 Black Major REVEALED

Apparently when the Club sent out that email, they weren’t joking around!  The preview for the G.I. Joe 2010 Convention Exclusive Black Major is already online now!  As predicted, he contains a heavy influence of M Bison, and wow.  A very, very nice looking figure.  Nothing exceptionally fancy about it, but very true to the Red Shadows Nazi-type roots.  He looks evil and fits right in with the Red Shadows theme.  Love the overwhelming black of the figure, with just the right touches of red…and man, that Red Shadow logo looks great.
I definitely approve so far!  Keep your eyes on the GIJoeCon 2010 Preview Page for more preview images as they arrive!  I know I’m looking forward to it!

2010 GIJoeCon images should start appearing "in the next day or so"…

Brian from the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club has sent out an email update, and mentions in the update to keep our eyes on GIJoeCon.com because official images should start appearing there in the next day or so.  The full text of the email can be read below!

“In case you have not heard, Southwest airlines is having a $39 each way sale from selected markets. They fly into Providence, so if you have not booked your air, check it out! There are also some airlines that are matching this sale.  You must book by Thursday, February 12.
In addition, we will be putting up the first pictures in the next day or so at GIJoeCon.com.
Also, if you have already sent in your registration form and did not mark the Hasbro tour and want to go, you need to send in the form and mark the top “additional items to be added”.  The tour is free but you MUST sign up for it  or you will not be able to attend.
Every registration form in house has been processed so you should see the charges on your cc bill in the next day or so.  Check your bill as confirmation that we have received your form and it matches the amount on your copy.
Hard copy registration forms will go out in late March.
See you in RI for this once-in-a-lifetime convention!
Brian”

I’m really excited to see these images, and looking forward to the convention, too.  Hopefully I’ll see a bunch of you guys there.

Images emerge for Pursuit of Cobra Arctic Threat Destro

I should have my own review up very shortly, but for now, a few other places have gotten images up of the deceptively cool “Arctic Threat” Destro.  I say deceptive, because on the surface, he really doesn’t look that great, but once you really dig into the figure with the tooling, the removable jacket, and the absolutely amazing frosted paint scheme, this figure is really very, VERY nice.  I’ll let the following images speak for themselves, and will get my own review up swiftly.

Brian Goldner's earnings report offers some G.I. Joe tidbits

With thanks to the guys at Hisstank for digging it out, and big thanks to SeekingAlpha.com for offering a transcript of Brian Goldner’s Earnings report, which we spoke a bit about yesterday.  Mixed in amongst the call transcript were some very interesting bits of information:

  • “In motion pictures, with more than $1.1 billion in box office revenue between Transformers and G.I. Joe, and strong product sales in 2009, we are working with Paramount on Transformers 3 and G.I. Joe 2. In addition, we are pleased to add Sony as a studio partner as we reached an agreement to develop Risk as a major motion picture.”
  • “The total brand performance of Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Nerf delivered double digit growth in 2009 across multiple product categories. Transformers had a record year posting $592 million in revenues, a 23% increase from our last movie year in 2007. G.I. Joe recorded revenue in excess of $125 million and Nerf continued its growth, increasing 25% driven by continued growth in the US and the expansion of the brand internationally.”
  • “We are working on Transformers animation and would certainly see some Transformers both the opportunity for the classic Transformers as well as some new Transformers episodes to get out some time this year. I will tell you we’re also working on G.I. Joe the second movie and looking at animation whether that’s for late ’10 or ’11, we’ll make some decisions on that. Transformers 3 as a motion picture we’re well underway and working on a script, working with Michael Bay and Paramount.”
  • “I think one of the big mistakes we made on G.I. Joe was really just in the price point. It really had less to do with the enjoyment of property. In fact if you look at the DVD sales they were quite strong and property performed really well. At the lower price points G.I. Joe has performed very well, in fact we shipped G.I. Joe product in the fourth quarter and feel very good about, we did some research with consumers and see great consumer appetite for the brand. We’ve begun work on the second film as well as looking at television. For us it was more a matter of probably ignoring some of the price point challenges that are out there from a consumer spending standpoint as we developed the line 18 months ahead of the movie launch.”

So, it sounds like we’re full steam ahead on the G.I. Joe animated series, and may even see something late this year (but more likely early next year).  Also, G.I. Joe 2 is on target for 2012.  Very interesting to see that the Hasbro CEO recognized the price point difficulties with the Rise of Cobra line, which is hopefully an indication that prices will remain competitive for the next installment of G.I. Joe later this year.
Hopefully we’ll get even more great information Saturday at Toy  Fair.  Rest assured, GeneralsJoes will be there in the thick of it.

Hasbro Profits Soar, led by performance of Boys Toys brands

According to RTTNews, Hasbro is reporting 77% Profits, boosted by their forays into Hollywood and by licensed boys brands leading the pack.  Also, TFormers.com gives a bit more detail about the report, reporting a 16% increase in boys toys over the last year.
Considering the economic outlook for the country, this is a pretty good report and evidence that Hasbro is wethering this economic storm pretty well.

Another indication of future G.I. Joe packaging change?

The guys over at The Terror Drome have come across an overseas auction, which apparently features a pre-production box for the upcoming G.I. Joe vehicle line possibly appearing on store shelves this fall.

First thing you can’t help but notice is that the logo and overall blue color scheme are very reminiscent of the Firefly packaging we saw a while ago, which lends more credence to that being something official.
Besides that, I wouldn’t take much from these images, since they are obviously so early in the production phase.  Hopefully we’ll find out more in six days at Toy Fair!
