G.I. Joe: Renegades to begin airing in December?

Although we’ve heard no new news officially about the debut of G.I. Joe: Renegades, TV focused website MultiChannel.com has posted an article about The Hub’s new On Demand television service (which I checked out for myself over the weekend).
The biggest news for Joe fans in this article is the tail end paragraph, which reads:

“In December, this fresh fare will follow: G.I. Joe Renegades, R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour: The Series and multiple installments of Transformers Prime.”

The above article also reiterates the statement the The Hub will show some “sneak previews” of upcoming shows on October 10th, but The Hub themselves still shows no evidence of this on their Program Schedule.
I’m not sure why Hasbro or The Hub couldn’t have made this information public by now, since it’s apparently news out there somewhere, but there you go.  Check out the article right here.  We will endeavor to get some clear information about this as soon as possible.

Amazing vintage collection that needs to be seen to be believed

I’m not sure how many folks who read this site know of Kevin Watts…he’s a vintage collector who has been around the block for a long time, and has a most impressive vintage collection.  From time to time he’s posted some pictures of his vintage collection, though we haven’t seen any in a while.
Well, Kevin, who posts under KrymsynGardImmoral in various places also moonlights at a fantastic opinion and blog site 30Pov.com, and he is taking an opportunity to really give a great showcase of his amazing  vintage collection.  Various links within his latest  blog entry point to several images in various Photobucket accounts which ends up being an exhaustive look.  It’s not just the quantity of the items, it’s the quality of them, the way they’re organized and the mixture of some flawless customs as well.
One of the best collections I’ve seen in my nearly three decades of toy collecting.  I’ve mirrored a few of the images below, but you should definitely check out 30Pov.com as well to see all of the links in their entirety.  They are incredible.

Joesightings.com’s Year of the Tiger Halloween Custom and Art Contest

Joesightings.com presents a very cool new Halloween themed contest!
“Ninja Cat-Fight!”
Since 2010 is the Year of the Tiger, this contest will be a custom or art contest to redesign the Razor Trooper–hybrid Cobra ninjas spliced with tiger DNA, or redesign Tiger Claw—Snake Eyes’ second ninja apprentice. Neither figure depicted any tiger-like aesthetics or traits aside from codenames or filecard descriptions, so the contest will be for customizers or artists to redesign either of these two (or both) from the ground up with more of a “tiger” trait to them. Race, gender, and genetics are all open to translation. Either character can be male or female, both or neither can be genetically engineered with tiger DNA, and just because they’re ninjas, doesn’t mean they can’t be updated with modern or Very Near Future technology. The point of this contest is not to duplicate the originals, but to redesign the Razor Trooper or Tiger Claw so they each live up to their animal namesake and function—either through coloration of their uniforms, weapon designs, genetic engineering, tattooing, or even cybernetics that bring about feline traits. Anything goes as long as it brings about a more tiger-like aesthetic!
But why a Halloween contest? As we already know, 2010 is the Year of the Tiger in Asian cultures. But there’s a second tiger aspect: the beginning of Fall is heralded in by the god of Autumn, “the White Tiger of the West”. Furthermore, Halloween is fast approaching us, and what holiday better exemplifies Autumn, than Halloween? Not to mention that’s the perfect time for tiger-people hybrids and ninjas, so that’s the three-layered theme of this contest.

GeneralsJoes IDW Review Onslaught – G.I. Joe: Cobra Special II

Even after reading just the first issue of G.I. Joe: Cobra way back when, I knew we were in for something special.  A very gritty take on the G.I. Joe universe, it presented heroes and villains with the lines of their morality completely blurred and had Chuckles going way into the dark in order to get the job done.
When it was announced that G.I. Joe: Cobra would be an ongoing series starting this year, I will admit, I was a bit conflicted.  Would the series really be able to keep its legs as a monthly title?  How could the universe retain its darkness and complexity of personalities going month-to-month?  Well, to answer those questions…no, it can’t quite maintain the same level of darkness, but that doesn’t mean it gets any worse.  To read the full review hit the jump below.  Spoilers abound.

More details emerge for GIJCC 25th Anniversary Dial Tone

As we gear up for the 2011 Membership drive from the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club, some more details can be had about the upcoming 2011 exclusive figure, a 25th Anniversary Dial-Tone.  Over on their Exclusive Figures page, the GIJCC has posted two silouettes, one for the Communications Officer, and one for the 12″ exclusive, the Man of the Sea.
From what we can see in the silouette of Dial-Tone (as well as what’s mentioned in the text), a few more details can be gathered:

  • Dial Tone will have a totally newly tooled head
  • The figure looks to be comprised of Buzzer’s Torso/Webgear, and Sgt. Airborne’s arms and legs.  Legs could also be Gung Ho, tough to tell for sure
  • He will come with his familiar machine gun and what looks to be a retooled backpack to match his vintage version

They also mention on this page that the Adventure Team Sea Adventurer should hit release in early 2011.
If you even think you might be interested in this Dial Tone figure, I strongly recommend you join up and ensure that you get it.  Big Lob sold out and I have absolutely ZERO doubts in my mind that Dial Tone will, too.  And probably pretty damn quickly.  Don’t miss this boat.

GeneralsJoes IDW Review Onslaught – G.I. Joe: Hearts & Minds #3

When this issue was first released, my local comic shop was sold out, so I went without…but during this week’s visit to a different store, they had one kicking around in their new release section, so I scooped it up.  When I first grabbed it, I actually didn’t plan on reviewing it because, let’s face it…do folks really want to read a review that’s 2 months out of date?
Well, then I read it…and I felt compelled to talk about it. It also helps that I wasn’t able to find issue #5 of Hearts & Minds, which was supposed to be released this week, so at least I now have some Max Brooks greatness to talk about.  Read the review after the jump.

GeneralsJoes IDW Review Onslaught – G.I. Joe: Origins #19

I’ve somehow fallen slightly behind in my reviews of the IDW issues as they hit local comic shops.  I’ve got a Newbury Comics right across the street that I hit every Wednesday, but work has kept me from it for a bit…so now it’s catch up time!
It would just figure that this is the week when my comic shop visit is delayed, too, because I was especially looking forward to picking up G.I. Joe: Origins #19, with Larry Hama’s return to the “Silent Issue” theme…add to that art by the incredible Joe Benitez, and this is one issue I did NOT want to miss.
How do I feel now that I’ve read it?  Well…  it was pretty awesome.  But certainly not perfect, especially for the series that it appears in.  Hit the jump to read the full review.

Official Press Images for Pursuit of Cobra Wave 3

While we haven’t gotten word yet from Hasbro PR if these images are available through their channels site sponsor BigBadToyStore has shared their images with our buddies at The Terror Drome, and I’ve also mirrored them below.  These don’t offer a whole lot more detail than what we’ve seen previous, other to reiterate the fact that this wave looks awesome.  Yes, another Duke, another Snake Eyes, and another Storm Shadow, but this Snake Eyes may be one of the best Snake Eyes figures we’ve seen yet, and Duke, even with the way-too-freaking-big shoulder-rockets is a pretty bad ass version of the Joe Top Kick.  The one low point of the wave would certainly seem to be spring-loaded Storm Shadow.
Don’t even get me started on the Cobra Shock Trooper.  It would certainly appear Cobra is making urban environments a priority with this guy and the Alley-Viper unleashed on the world.  Check out the images below.
