GIJCC 2010 Membership Drive

So, are you a member of the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club?  If not, why not?  I have a feeling the offer of the 25th Anniversary Dial-Tone in 2011 will drive many folks to become members, and hopefully many of them will find it worthwhile.
The monthly newsletter features many interesting articles…in the past there have been dio-stories (by yours truly…) and expect plenty of reviews and other articles going forward as well.  Hasbro designer John Warden often showcases his talents and sneak previews there, and they are always interesting and enlightening.
Well, starting Monday, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club is kicking off a membership drive!  Straight from the homepage:

This month we’re kicking off our 2010 Fall membership drive! Both members and non-members can expect all kinds of different reveals, contests, club store promotions and other activities that will highlight all the cool aspects of being a G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club member!
So what’s up first? Well, some things are already in motion, but next week fans will get the first close up look at the 2011 membership incentive figures: Dial-Tone (25A edition) for the 3 3/4-inch Officer level members and the “Man of the Sea” for 12-inch Officer level members! Be sure to tune in Monday too as we will be announcing our first contest!is month we’re kicking off our 2010 Fall membership drive! A YouTube video has also appeared celebrating the membership drive, and there also happens to be a very subtle sneak peek at the upcoming 25th Anniversary Dial Tone.  Check it out in embedded goodness below.

For folks who have not yet joined up, I hope you seriously consider it…for the price of a couple cups of coffee per month you get a very professional newsletter, great discounts from their online store, and a free figure that fills in a huge gap in the 25th Anniversary collection.  Do it!

Hubworld.com releases TV schedule – No sign of G.I. Joe: Renegades yet

Initially they had set a date of October 4th, but a few days early, Hubworld.com has released their TV Schedule for the first 5 days of broadcast, and unfortunately G.I. Joe: Renegades is nowhere to be found.  At least, not yet.
This is somewhat of a bummer to me, as I was really looking forward to the launch, but on the other hand, if it gives Hasbro and The Hub some more time to promote the  station and the series, then it’ll end up being better in the long run.  I know many folks have already reported seeing commercials on broadcast networks for The Hub, so word is getting out there.  Hopefully we’ll hear shortly what the plan is going forward.
On the plus side, however, starting October 12th, at 12:30 (half past midnight), The Hub will start airing classic episodes of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero.  Hopefully Renegades isn’t too far behind.

Sideshow's newest 12" figure revealed – Dusty!

In various production videos we’ve seen some concept art for an upcoming Sideshow Collectibles 12″ Dusty, and now he has been officially announced!
Personally, not a big fan.  Sure, Dusty has his place in the G.I. Joe mythology, but come on…what about  Destro?  Zartan?  Crimson Guard?  Sideshow’s been doing some great military figures, but it seems like that’s all they’ve been doing.  Duke, Flint, Beachhead, and  Firefly are all awesome, certainly…but I’m really looking forward to seeing how Sideshow tackles some of the more…  “eclectic” folks in the G.I. Joe universe.  Not to mention the fact that I don’t really see Dusty as being a core character that needs 12″ figure treatment before so many others.
Ah, well…I’m sure the end result will still be very cool, just wish we could see some of the more iconic characters tackled.  Check out a preview image below.

Amazon.com offers pre-orders and cover images for Renegades TPB's

With cross-marketing in mind, Hasbro and The Hub obviously plan a blitz of G.I. Joe: Renegades items once the show starts picking up steam, and apparently high on their list of items to produce are comic books.  Now, the IDW October Solicitations list mentioned a first issue of G.I. Joe: Renegades as part of their shipping schedule that month, but issues of Previews since then have curiously ommitted the title.
Evidently something is still planned, however, as Amazon.com has two pre-orders posted for the first two volumes of what appear to be G.I. Joe: Renegades Trade Paperback collections of those comics.  With posted release dates of February, 2011, you would think the comic should still be slated to hit shortly, but who knows for sure at this point?
Along with the pre-orders, Amazon has also posted a pair of cover images, one featuring the Snake Eyes art we’ve seen before, and a second featuring the familiar Arashikage Clan symbol, which will evidently play a major role in the cartoon series.  Check out the pre-orders and the mirrored images below:

Big thanks to GeneralsJoes reader Captain N.  for the information!

A must read article for action figure fans at JoeIntel.com

This isn’t a new article by any stretch…  written by noted Star Wars and G.I. Joe collector Shane Turgeon it’s an article that I just recently rediscovered a feel compelled to pass along to my readers, because it is chock full of awesome insight and information about toy design and production.
If anyone has ever wondered exactly what goes into producing even one action figure, Shane’s article over on JoeIntel.com is an absolutely fascinating read.  In fact, there’s a lot of info on JoeIntel that toy fans in general should be very interested in.
Check out the article right here.  I just want to say thanks to Shane for sharing this great information, and I really hope that folks reading this take some time to learn exactly what it took to make a toy back in the 80’s.  Processes are somewhat different know, mostly due to technology changes, but the core concepts are much the same.  It really is amazing at what steps are involved.

G.I. Joe vs. The Avengers!

Yeah, yeah, I’m still talking about Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.  DisneyXD has been posting new microsodes every day, and I’ve been pretty much in love with every single one of them.  With G.I. Joe: Renegades apparently not debuting October 11th, the 20th is now the date I’m most looking forward to next month.
That being said, I was giving my readers a bit of a break from it, because nothing puts a focus on a lack of Joe news like hitting my site and seeing back-to-back-to-back-to-back Avengers updates.  However…yesterday’s episode featuring The Hulk forced my hand, when I saw this:

Yes, that is a helicopter pilot for The Hulkbusters, and yes he speaks with a thick Southern drawl, and yes, he parachutes out of the helicopter just in the nick of time when the Hulk brings it down.  Freaking awesome.  As cool as this little cameo is, I really geeked out when I saw the following pictures:

You see, while many folks will say Spider-Man, Superman, Batman, or Wolverine got them into comic books, for me it was Hawkeye.  Sure I was buying G.I. Joe comics back in the day, but I hadn’t broken into super heroes until I stumbled upon the Hawkeye limited series way back in the 80’s.  I had been fascinated with archery at the time, and a super hero who just used a bow and arrow was absolutely awesome to me.  I hadn’t yet been exposed to Green Arrow (and only would be about a year later when I got into the Super Powers toys) so Hawkeye was the man.  Sure, he was in that horrible 90’s Avengers cartoon, but here he seems to be done right.  I’m fired up.  Cannot wait to see this cartoon in full bloom.
Check out the Avengers Microsodes right here!

HubWorld offers plenty of coolness for old school fans, too

So most of the focus on HubWorld.com has been G.I. Joe: Renegades and Transformers: Prime…  however what some folks don’t know is that HubWorld also ported over a lot of the videos from Hasbro’s MonkeyBarTV site, which means full online versions of many of the Sunbow cartoons as well as some of the CGI features from 2003 – 2005 (including the fun Valor Vs. Venom).  This is a very cool added feature and something that Joefans of all genres can appreciate.
Check out their video episodes section right here.

In a somewhat disappointing bit of bad news, it turns out that according to a recently distributed Press Release from The Hub, G.I. Joe: Renegades in fact will NOT be launching October 10th, contrary to many listings found in various online sources.
According to this press release, the Hub will present a “Sneak Peek Sunday” giving viewers a sneak peek at the various series’ and specials that will be broadcast, however, G.I. Joe: Renegades and Transformers: Prime do not appear to be part of that schedule:

10:30 AM: “Dennis And Gnasher”
11:00 AM: “Cosmic Quantum Ray”
11:30 AM: “Atomic Betty”
12:00 PM: Hub Family Movie: Garfield
2:00 PM: “Pound Puppies”
2:30 PM: “My Little Pony Friendship is Magic”
3:00 PM: “Strawberry Shortcake Berry Bitty Adventures”
3:30 PM: “Fraggle Rock”
4:00 PM: “Cosmic Quantum Ray”
4:30 PM: “Deltora Quest”
5:00 PM: “Men In Black”
5:30 PM: “Batman Beyond”
6:00 PM: “Meerkat Manor”
6:30 PM: “The Twisted Whiskers Show”
7:00 PM: “Family Game Night”
8:00 PM: Hub Family Movie: Garfield
However, the press release also states that on October 4th, the Hub’s full programming schedule will be revealed, and their normal slate of programming will begin Monday, October 11th.  There is no indication that either Renegades or Prime will be part of that slate from the get-go.
To read the full Press Release click the “Read the Rest of this Entry” link below.  Somewhat disappointing news, but all should be revealed on October 4th.
