Secrets revealed in Previews Magazine?

Well, it would certainly appear so, according to Ragi Foesmasher of HissTank.com.
Previews typically lists figures set for release a little ways in advance, and they report the following:

“For over twenty-five years, the G.I. Joe has been defending America and the cause of freedom from the evils of Cobra! Characters like Blowtorch, General Hawk, Steel Brigade Trooper, Cobra Trooper, Cobra Commander and the Jungle B.A.T. enter the fight for the fate of the world as these collectible 3.75″ figures! Blister card packaging.”

Uhhh… wha–?
It’s pretty unusual for Hasbro to be able to keep assortments like this under wraps right up until release, but kudos to them for doing it, if that’s what this is.  What sort of format these figures will come in raises some questions as well…obviously they’ve all been released as Anniversary figures already (except for the Steel Brigade Trooper), so are these some sort of Pursuit of Cobra upgrade figures?  Curious…
According to the poster, this edition of Previews will hit comic shops in two weeks.  It appears “on Page 360 will be a listing for item code FEB111522. With a title of GI JOE AF ASST 201103. The picture is of Wave 4 and the shipping date is 4/27/2011.”
Guess we know what to look for at Toy Fair!

Pursuit of Cobra Ashiko w/ Cycle Armor Images make me weep a little inside

So maybe I’m being too pessimistic.  I would be thrilled to be wrong, but I’m still having a hard time figuring where this latest wave of Alpha’s fit in the release cycle.  As we’ve already discussed, scores of Joe themed vehicles are hitting close out stores (which is not a good thing) and big box retailers don’t appear to be in any major rush to replenish fading Christmas stock.
I know many folks point towards a March, 2011 release date as proof that these are still coming, but if you remember the Pursuit of Cobra figure coverage, Wave 4 was also slated to hit in March, 2011, but instead hit nearly two months early.  The fact that vehicles did not joint this latest of wave of figures in early release is another sign to me that we will never see this series at typical retailers.
Given what’s happened over the past month, I would not be at all surprised to see them hit Ross or other similar close out stores, but I’m not holding my breath for mainstream release.  Which is why the Ashiko with Cycle Armor makes me weep.  I thought we’d dodged a bullet when it got cancelled, but then resubmitted for release in 2011, but now it seems as if it’s destined for retail obscurity.
I’ve read all of Gyre-Viper’s comments on it, and I know a lot of folks aren’t crazy about it, but I just think it looks awesome.  So weird and so crazy, but I love it in the G.I. Joe universe.  Plus, now that we have a clear look at the filecard and we know that not only is Ashiko a bad ass in armor who drives a robot motorcycle, but he’s A DAMN NINJA.
How can anything beat that?  Thanks to Gyre Viper for continually rubbing the salt in my wounds…check out the thread at HissTank.com, or the mirrored images just below.

G.I. Joe: The Pursuit of Cobra Minotaur w/ Desert Scorpion pre-production images

Didn’t take Gyre-Viper long…  just mere hours after posting images for the HISS Scout, he’s also gotten some images online at HissTank.com for the Wave 2 Mech, the Cobra Minotaur.  The highlight of the Minotaur for most folks is probably the Desert Scorpion, and there are certainly plenty of images of the figure as well.  A surprisingly effective figure based on the limited parts choices available.
Check out the mirrored images below.  The current release status of the Wave 2 Mechs is unknown.  The reason I say that for the Mechs and the Alphas is twofold…  first of all, I believe Gyre-Viper was told by his Asian contact that these samples were for “canceled product”.  Not only that, but I don’t see much sense in rushing out the release of the figures, then staggering the vehicle releases back another 2 months, with no figures to compliment them.
It’s highly possible that these will see the light of day at some point, but personally, I don’t have a real good feeling about it.  Alpha’s have been sort of clogging shelves, and judging by the fact that PoC Vehicles are already abundant in ROSS stores doesn’t speak well for the future of PoC vehicle releases at mainstream retail.
Time will tell.  Hopefully we’ll get some intel in New York in February.

Detailed images of Pursuit of Cobra HISS Scout

A familiar face has received another care package from his Asian comrades, and Gyre-Viper has unloaded a plethora of images in this thread on HissTank.com featuring the G.I. Joe: Pursuit of Cobra HISS Scout.
An Alpha sized vehicle, which is currently in release limbo, it’s a neat little HISS shaped vehicle.  Rumors abounded that it would somehow attach to its larger HISS brother, and Gyre-Viper confirms those rumors in the image gallery.
Currently, the status on both this vehicle and the Cycle Armor with Ashiko is completely unknown.  The HISS Scout looks neat and all, but I will be absolutely crushed if the Cycle Armor doesn’t somehow find its way to retail.  I MUST own that at some point.  Yeah, I’ve heard that it’s a bit chinsy and has a tendency to fall apart with the wind, but I still want one, dammit.  Until then I’ll live vicariously through Gyre’s images of the HISS Scout below.

Addendums to the latest PoC Wave 4 Reviews

I’ve received some corrected information in regards to my Wave 4 Pursuit of Cobra reviews from various different sources, so I just wanted to say “thanks”! and point out the added info.
In my review of the Wave 4 Low Light I indicated that he had new arms.  This is NOT the case.  His arms are, by and large, the arms from the PoC Jungle-Viper, but the forearm pegs of the Jungle Viper have been replaced by new forearm pads with the smooth texture.
Also, I received some complaints about the lack of a goggled picture of Low Light, which for some reason I forgot to include in the review.  Well, it’s now been posted, so check out the review again, or just check out the image below.

GeneralsJoes Reviews Pursuit of Cobra Wave 4

No scattered reviews this time around…we’re diving right into the whole assortment!
My G.I. Joe: Pursuit of Cobra Wave 4 figures arrived very late Friday evening, and I spent several hours this past weekend diving right into reviews.  I know I’ve been accused of hyperbole in the past, but I will say without hesitation that these four figures are among the coolest figures in the entire run of the Pursuit of Cobra line, and with a toyline like this one, that is really saying something.
These figures are awesome.  Simply awesome.  Check out the Pursuit of Cobra Review Page or hit the links below directly:

These are four excellent figures.  It really makes me look forward to seeing what Hasbro has up their sleeves for 2011.  Based on how much they’ve improved over the past 12 months, I can only imagine what greatness we have in store for us over the next 12.
