First look at Wolverine: Origins Wave 1

As readers of the site no doubt noticed, I’ve become enthralled with the new 1:18 scale Marvel offerings from Hasbro, including the new Wolverine: Origins figures.  The great thing about them is that they take the characters that are appearing in the film, and “Marvelize” them, so they appear in their comic-accurate uniforms, even if they don’t appear that way in the film.  This, we get figures like Deadpool, Sabretooth, and Gambit, who look relatively generic in promotional pictures, but get their comic-accurate uniforms in the single pack figures (or in Sabretooth’s case, an exclusive two-pack).

I haven’t lucked out enough to stumble on any of these as of yet, but long time friend of  GeneralsJoes and JoeBattleLines member “Alexx” comes through with some nice reviews and pictures of three of the figures from Wave 1.  Read on!

Marvel Universe and Wolverine Origins starting to propogate

Along with the aforementioned Wolverine Origins figures that are breaking street date by about 3 weeks, the non-dated Marvel Universe 3 3/4″ figures are also starting to spread throughout the retail landscape.  At the moment, I’m a bit more keyed up for the X-Men  inspired flavors, but the initial run of Marvel Universe has some good stuff in it as well.  There are scattered sightings being reported over at one-18.com, and Gary from the  Coil Club has also provided some neat pics alongside some Anniversary figures as well:

Keep watching, news and info are going to be flying hot and heavy leading up to my trip to New York next week.  Looking forward to it!

NYCC going full force

So, I’m feeling wishy washy.  Look, I know this is a G.I. Joe site, and I know most of the viewers really only care about that.  But I’ll be damned if I’m not getting sucked into these awesome 3 3/4″ Marvel Universe figures.  They’re the perfect marraige between the comic characters I love, the scale I’m a huge fan of, and the articulation I need.

What do you guys think?  You want to see more coverage of the Marvel stuff (though only the 3 3/4″!) here?  Here are a few galleries to get you going:

Marvelous News

Fred from JoeBattleLines and I were just talking about this…and man, if this doesn’t have some serious potential.  Imagine COBRA agents discovering Captain America frozen in ice, then teaming up with Hydra to unthaw him and turn him into their ultimate weapon?  Imagine SHIELD discovering the existence of COBRA and Hydra’s union, and deciding a specialized task force needed to be created to battle against them…a task force called G.I. Joe?

Imagine the infamous “Merc with a mouth” battling toe-to-toe against the most famous and skilled Arashikage ninja in the world…  Nick Fury and General Hawk standing back-to-back fighting off scientifically advanced terrorists.  The possibilities are almost endless.  I’m getting a bit pumped up.

Toy Fair in one week!

A new addiction…

As anyone who visits this site knows, I have two main “loves” in the geek sense…one being G.I. Joe, the other being super heroes.  It’s funny, though, I am NOT a comic collector.  I was for a long time, in fact at one point I spent $75.00 per week on my comic habit, but I quit cold turkey about 6 or 7 years ago and have never looked back.  Even though I don’t follow the day-to-day events, however, I still have a real love for the characters and the ideas of the Super Hero world, especially the Marvel one.  I have no desire to see Spider-Man struggle through the latest global catastrophe (or the horrors of “One More Day”…  *shudder* ), but I still love the essence of the Spider-Man character, which is why I find myself really loving the cartoons.  I can enjoy the characters without needing a 1200 page omnibus telling me every single little event that happened in their life.
