This dark and gritty title features Chuckles as the main character as he goes deeper and deeper undercover, attempting to infiltrate this new worldwide terrorist organizations. Expect plenty of cameos and surprise guest-stars!
Click here to check out the preview, I haven’t been this psyched up about a G.I. Joe comic in a long time.

With both books hitting yesterday, they’re sure to get the heavy review treatment, and IGN has them both. They both get moderately positive reviews, with the Prequel notching a 7 and Issue #3 coming in at a solid 7.2, however each title is also coming with some built-in flaws. The reviewer(s) seem to have a craving for more Snake Eyes and more familiar faces, and less Duke. Don’t we all? 😉
Click the following links for the reviews of G.I. Joe #3 and G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA Prequel #1 (featuring Duke).
I should have my own reviews up shortly.

I know, I know…my reviews have taken quite a bit of a hit lately and gotten thrust onto the back burner. For folks who aren’t aware, my review “shooting area” is in my garage. My unheated garage. I live in New England, and for the past 3 months it’s been pretty damned cold, and frankly, sitting in the unheated garage and taking pictures for a c0uple of hours ain’t really high on my list of fun things to do. But that’s a lame excuse…and now I’m going to at least try and get back on the review train with the Wave 1 Comic Packs.

G.I. Joe: COBRA co-writer Christos Gage (who is working alongside Mike Costa) spent a few minutes talking to Newsarama about his various projects, including the upcoming limited series, G.I. Joe: COBRA, which is hitting comic shops March 18th.
Check out the video here, specifically starting at the 1:47 mark.
The full transcription is here:
“Mike Costa – who is a very talented up-and-coming young writer and who someday soon I will be coming to, begging for him to help me get work – and I are writing a G.I. Joe: Cobra mini-series that is the most hardcore G.I. Joe that you will ever read. I’m serious.
I’ll be honest. One of the reasons I brought Mike in to co-write is because, a) I was really busy, but also he knows the world and I don’t know the world very well. This is the kind of thing, the character of Chuckles, the things we’re doing with him? I’m like, if they did this with Daredevil, I’d be really mad. I was like, “Are people gonna be really mad at me?” And Mike’s like, “Hasbro’s fine with it, it’ll be really cool!”
We’re having a lot of fun. If you like Ed Brubaker’s Sleeper, even if you’ve never read a G.I. Joe book, you should get this because it’s about a guy, a character named Chuckles infiltrating Cobra. And in the name of trying to bring them down from within, he’s forced to do even more and more evil and extreme stuff, and it’s a question about “If you’re doing the wrong things for the right reasons, can you maintain your sanity, your humanity and your soul?”
Thanks to HELLSTROM of the JoeReloaded forums for this info.

The fine folks at IDW and JoeReloaded bring us 5(ish) page previews of both G.I. Joe #3 and the G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA Movie prequel #1 (featuring Duke).
G.I. Joe #3
G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA Prequel #1
My first reaction? G.I. Joe #3 looks pretty cool… Atkins does a nice job with the art, great flow to the action, nice dialogue by Dixon (Hawk’s somewhat cliche’d “come get some” not withstanding). Love Hawk being on fire…good stuff.
The Rise of COBRA prequel seems neat, too. More basic military action, a step away from the future-war sci-fi stuff that the movie seems to be going for. Ripcord and Duke together on a fairly standard jungle op. Fairly standard from an art perspective, but it works well enough, and the story flows, even without a whole lot of action. Not bad, and I’m happy to be kind of moving into the movie universe.
Thanks to Phil Kost from JoeReloaded for the heads up.

Phil Kost from JoeReloaded reports that according to Midtown Comics, G.I. Joe #3 and G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA Prequel #1 (featuring Duke) will both be released next Wednesday, March 11th.
We reported yesterday that G.I. Joe: COBRA would be released March 18th, which still leaves G.I. Joe: Origins #2 somewhat up in the air.
Thanks to Phil for the info, it would certainly appear that IDW is flying out of the starting gate…and I think I might be the only one at least a little bit excited to already be starting the move into the Rise of COBRA universe. If nothing else, it’ll be a different take. I’m willing to give it a shot, at least.
