Huge thanks to friend of GeneralsJoes notpicard for the information!
IDW Editor Chris Ryall has posted a single page preview on his Ryalltime blog from G.I. Joe: Origins #5, featuring Rock n Roll and Roadblock Heavy Duty. Posted as a tribute to Memorial Day, it’s a great image of the two G.I. Joe heavy machine gunners doing what they do best. Check out the post here and the image below.
The Terror Drome has again come up with some new images of upcoming Rise of COBRA Combat Heroes that should hit retail with the movie release this year. The coolest thing about these are some neat peeks at potential trooper types that we might see coming up, including a movie-styled Para-Viper and Arctic-Viper. Check out the images below.
ComicsContinuum has posted the details (including cover art) for the August Solicitations from IDW Comics.

Like the fact that it’s getting smaller? HissCommander from The Terror Drome points out an interesting article on ToyDirectory.com which lays out some drastic changes that the largest retailer has been making in their toy departments nation wide. A smaller overall size, reflecting in a 25% decrease in overall stock. The writer hypothesizes that this will have some affect on the major manufacturers (such as Hasbro and Mattel), but will likely have severe, back-breaking impact on the smaller toy manufacturers.
Knowing Wal-Mart’s love of high profit, low-budget toys, one has to wonder whether G.I. Joe will be sacrificed in favor of the CORPS, or if the big budget movie will finally convince Wal-Mart that the Joe brand is a viable one going forward? Interesting times ahead.
With much thanks to HissCommander from The Terror Drome, some images have been uncovered of the upcoming G.I. Joe Pit Commando and movie-themed COBRA Eel.
The Pit Commando appears to come in at least two packaging variations, showcasing the different forms the soldier can take, and the sheer amount of gear he comes with is a customizing dream come true. Check out the images of the Pit Commando below:

The COBRA Eel pictures so far have been grainy and undetailed, so these updated images are very nice to see. I gotta say, while I’m not a huge fan of the styling of the movie Vipers and Neo-Vipers, I do really love how they’re taking a base template and tweaking it to make all of these different troop variations. Even though I’m not loving the look, it’s a great concept, and this Eel has enough minor changes to really stand out. He also has some color tweaks; enough to make him at least a bit of an homage to the original. Check out those images below:
Entertainment Tonight spent some time with cast members Marlon Wayans, Channing Tatum, Rachel Nichols, and Sienna Miller, and captured the event on video. About five minutes along, it has some neat interactions between the cast members and little tidbits of information scattered throughout. They talk about their favorite weapons, crack jokes, and add a little insight as well. You can click here to see it, or just check out the embedded video below.
HissTank.com forum member slang got his hands on the so-far unreleased Resolute version of Destro, and did up a review over there. He was also kind enough to agree to share that review and the images here on GeneralsJoes as well.
Keep in mind that the current release of this figure is up in the air…Hasbro stated in a recent Q & A that there were no plans to release Resolute Destro in 2009, but I for one am hoping that they change their mind. I think they were pretty surprised about the response for the animated feature and the action figures as well, so here’s hoping their faith in these designs is renewed and we end up getting these awesome looking figures on shelves and pegboards. Enough of that, though…here is slang’s review:
Overall, when I first saw the images of this version of Destro I knew I had to have it as my modern update to the character. I was underwhelmed with the ROC version when I got him, mainly because of the mask and fairly “large” hands.
The replaceable mechanical arm is a sweet touch. While there was no indication of this in the movie, the torn fabric at the topic of this lends itself to a great scene in which he is caught in some sort of blast and his arm catches fire or something 🙂 My only concern with the arm is the rather small post used to attach it. I would think that constant arm swapping would easily lead to it breaking off. Then again, this is a factory sample, so perhaps in production it would be sturdier.
The skirt is in keeping with the Resolute Cobra dress code, and just like CC, it is only removable if you separate the torso. (At least I couldn’t find a snap or anything on it). It is slit, so at least Destro can show some leg once and a while. I love the skirt on this Resolute version, it gives him a great trench coat look and makes him rather menacing. The boots are nice and tall, with pant legs tucked in. This being a sample, the pants below the knee joint are the same color as the boots, and not painted to match the upper leg.
Paint scheme is very nice, overall it is a nice dark blue, with the red striping, gold braid and silver buttons standing out nicely. Upper body articulation is great, with wide movement for both arms and head. Legs, as to be expected, are somewhat restricted by the skirt.
Accessories are nice, especially the aforementioned replacement arm and the opening MARS briefcase, which not only holds his sub machine gun, but also has a flip up computer monitor. The band of plastic that attaches the two sides of the case is starting to “whiten” from stress after only one open/close, so again I would think that regular use would lead to it breaking. His two pistols are on the small side, but fit nicely into the great holsters on his belt.
This is my first review for the ‘Tank, so hopefully this does the figure justice and you all can see the pics. If anyone has any questions, fire away!

A huge thanks to slang for passing on these images and the review to GeneralsJoes…this figure is a GREAT one!
More images have started appearing on various sites for some better pictures of upcoming figures as well as pictures of figures we have not yet heard about. Some very neat stuff in here, even though a lot of it is repaint-city. The higlights of this newest batch of images are:
Pilot Scarlett repaint/retool in UK themed “Quarrel” colors
Wet Down, a Torpedo base figure using the helmet/mask from the ROC Flash
A Neo-Viper in a more silver paint scheme
There are other various newer images of stuff we’ve seen as well. Original source of the info is HissTank.com, check out the images below.
Am I the only one who feels somewhat strange writing that? “Happy” Memorial Day?
I’d like to think that as G.I. Joe fans, most of us have a special appreciation and insight into the military, and as such, perhaps we are more cognizant of the American soldiers here and abroad, and what they do for all of us. So as you have your cookout, enjoy your day off, or just waste spend some time surfing the web for G.I. Joe news, you take at least a few minutes and think about just what was given up to give us these small freedoms that we all enjoy.
To those folks I know in the military, and to all of those that I do not, I’d like to take just a second to say “thank you”. Hopefully many others will do the same.
