by generalsjoes | Oct 22, 2010 | G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe Toys, G.I. Joe: Renegades, Pursuit of COBRA
The fans have long since complained that we don’t get any real information with these Hasbro Q & A sessions. Well, this latest round is proving that information wrong. Thanks to Toy News International, we finally have confirmation that the G.I. Joe: Renegades toys will be worked into the “Pursuit of Cobra” line and will remain in a realistic style! The exact quote is as follows:
“TNI: The G.I.Joe Pursuit of Cobra line seems to be going over well with collectors. I know at Joe Con this past summer you said that POC would continue for a few months and then you would switch to toys based on the Renegades cartoon. Is there any chance you will continue to do POC alongside Renegades stuff for collectors?
Hasbro: G.I. Joe product inspired by characters and themes from the upcoming G.I. Joe Renegades series on the Hub will be available in Fall 2011. The figures will be offered in the Pursuit of Cobra line and will have the highly-detailed, realistic look of the line.”
I’ll admit right up front…part of me was looking forward to an animation-accurate toyline, and a big part of me was convinced that’s what we were going to get. However, I know a LOT of fans who were against that concept, so for them I’m psyched to hear this. To a degree, I’m psyched myself, too, because while an animation-accurate line would have had at least some appeal to me, I am so in love with the Pursuit of Cobra, that the fact that this “style” is continuing is music to my ears as well.
Another great tidbit came out of The Terror Drome, who finally got the final say on the upcoming Pursuit of Cobra Commando Snake Eyes figure:
“3Q – The Wave 3 Snake Eyes looks amazing! Will there really be two variations released, one commando goggles head, and one visor ninja head? What is the planned distribution ratio? Hopefully a 50/50 or close as possible?
3A – We have an update for you – all carded figures will have both the Commando and Visor heads. There will no longer be variant version on this figure.”
More terrific news, for sure, and another piece of intel that should make collectors smile.
Keep your eyes peeled to GeneralsJoes.com, we’ll have our ear to the ground throughout the weekend to let folks know as more answers come in. Keep on checking the Q & A Page as well, which has already been updated with several fan site submissions!

They’re coming in a few weeks late, but answers to the latest round of G.I. Joe Q & A’s are coming in, and there are already some neat tidbits. First and foremost, here are GeneralsJoes selections:
Q1 – Recently the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club has revealed to great joy that they will be releasing a 25th Anniversary homage Dial Tone figure as part of their 2011 Membership incentive program. Judging by the widely positive fan response, it’s obvious that this is still a source of potential sales from a retail perspective. What is Hasbro’s final stance on whether or not we will see 25th Anniversary homage figures within the next 12 months? Is the Collectors’ Club destined to be our only outlet for this, or might we see something at retail?
A1 – The 25th anniversary was almost four years ago. We have already started looking forward to the 30th anniversary! While we won’t be introducing any more 25th anniversary figures, we will be tapping the great history of G.I. Joe to bring you 30th anniversary figs. The plans that we have, while not quite final, will most likely please the collectors of the 25th and Pursuit of Cobra lines.
Q2 – Articulation has always been a mainstay of G.I. Joe action figures ever since the 60’s, and at JoeCon, Alan Hassenfeld seemed to pride himself on that. Can you ensure us that even if G.I. Joe: Renegades toys are produced in an animated style, that they will maintain the high expectations for next generation articulation that G.I. Joe fans are used to?
A2 – We have always prided ourselves on the high quality of the action figures that we have produced. You can be assured that those standards that you have grown to know and love with the G.I. Joe line will continue in the future. Great articulation is a very important part of the line and will continue to be part of our line.
Q3 – It’s quite evident from the Pursuit of Cobra line that many of your designers are fans of movies like Predator, Aliens, etc… many of the fans also agree that a perfect fit for the G.I. Joe universe is Metal Gear Solid. Has Hasbro considered inquiring about the rights to that license, and if not, how much of an inspiration do the designers draw from that ground breaking military series?
A3 – We believe that the G.I. Joe brand and history are so strong and well known that we don’t need an additional license. It would also be difficult to reconcile the two stories. We are very excited as we continue to develop the future of G.I. Joe and believe that we are just beginning a great journey.
Don’t forget, you can catch up with every site’s Q & A submissions on the GeneralsJoes Q & A Page!

Damn. We should get crap like this more often. I’ve been really enjoying the character art on the packages of the Pursuit of Cobra toys, but a lot of it is obscured by the packaging itself, or just shot from the waist up. Well, Diamond Distributors has given us some updated information about a release timeline for the fourth wave of Pursuit of Cobra figures, and included with that some bad ass full body character art.
Awesome.

This is the text of the Diamond release details:
“POC WAVE 4:
For over twenty-five years G.I. Joe has been defending America and the cause of freedom from the evils of Cobra! Characters like Destro (Version 3), Low Light, Skydive, and Shadow Tracker enter the fight for the fate of the world as these 3 3/4″ figures! Blister card packaging.
Estimated ship date: 1/26/11″
With a ship date this early for the fourth wave of product, I would be shocked if we didn’t see something else hit next spring…perhaps an additional wave or something? Hopefully we’ll get more information soon! Thanks to SNAKE EYES from HissTank.com and The Terror Drome for this information.
by generalsjoes | Oct 22, 2010 | G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe: Renegades
Take from this what you will…we’ve seen and heard numerous reports about the G.I. Joe: Renegades air date, and here’s the next one in line. Of course, it does match up with what Renegades artist Clement Sauve said, so perhaps that lends more credence to the report?
Whatever the case, TV Listings website TV Tango is reporting that G.I. Joe: Renegades will air the day after Thanksgiving, November 26th, at 5:00pm Eastern. I think that’s actually a great time and date. The kids will be off from school, but it’s not on too late in the day. Time will tell if this is accurate, but there certainly seems to be plenty of corroborating evidence this time around.
Thanks to kennywr22 of HissTank.com and TKPrime of the MS Gulf Coast Collectors’ Club for the info!

The Sideshow Collectibles Newsletter has launched, and with it, the pre-order for the Desert Weapons Cache w/ Sandstorm is now available for pre-order! Anyone who has ordered Dusty needs this! It even comes with his coyote sidekick from the ’91 version of the figure. Sweet!
Images can be seen on the pre-order page, and I’ve mirrored a nice image below as well. These environments tend to sell out quick, don’t miss it!

You know, to be honest, I could put nearly every one of Jin’s customs on this page and not feel guilty about it. Dude does some amazing work. But once in a great while… holy wow.
This time he took one of the recently released Iron Man 2 Combat Drones, smashed it together with a 25th Anniversary B.A.T., added some paint and flair, and…again… holy wow. Showcased on HissTank.com, this is one nasty version of the Cobra Battle Android Trooper, and this is coming from a guy who doesn’t even like the B.A.T.s all that much.
Check out Jin’s page right here, and some mirrored images below.

So news has been pretty light, and site updates have been sparse. But I’ve taken the time to write something up that’s been rattling around in my head for a while now, and try to generate some discussion. There’s been lots of debate and argument across the net recently regarding newer Joe concepts…how about going back in time a little ways and trying to debate some classic era discussions?
Since 1982 there have been many permutations of the G.I. Joe universe. Obviously the two most impactful ones were the Marvel comic book and the Sunbow animated series. But in looking back on nearly thirty years of history, which were the most impactful storyline “events”? That’s not so easy to discern.
First of all, what does “impactful” mean? An impact on the fandom? The G.I. Joe mythology? The general public? I dunno. I kind of went with my gut on some of these and chose the events that resonated with me personally. I will tell you that #10 on the list was a tough call. I had a hard time judging that one above some others, but in the end, I felt like the writer of this particular series deserved a spot on the list, and the events (plus the artwork) was important and cool enough to earn its place.
Anyway, check out the list after the break. Agree or disagree in the comments section. Debate is welcome!

by generalsjoes | Oct 21, 2010 | 5 Page Previews, G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe Comics, IDW
Yes, the issue hit comic shops yesterday…what can I tell you, we’re a little behind the times. Nevertheless, here’s a five page preview for G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #159, which already promises to keep up the crazed pace of the previous few issues.
Gotta tell you, believe it or not, the art is really growing on me. At first I wasn’t sure about Padilla’s work, but the more I see of it, the more it really pays awesome homage to the 90’s style, and the more it really blends with the previous universe. I’m digging it. Check out the five page preview below.
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #159
