“Deep Terror” begins here! COBRA is digging a miles-deep shaft in the Patagonian wilderness and what they’re digging for could change the world forever and NOT in a good way. The Joes are looking for payback after recent events but will the cuts to their operating budget allow for a mission to the bottom of the world? Also: A new JOE arrives at Fort Baxter!

We’ve been getting flooded with some very cool Oktober Guard themed reveals over the past week or two, but many folks have been clamoring for more information about who the Oktober Guard will be facing off against.
Well, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club revealed that today with the Iron Grenadiers! We get a great revelation of the Iron Grenadier trooper himself and also some details about the story line itself. For folks who don’t recognize the figure itself, it was originally planned as part of 5 Pack of Iron Grenadier figures from the Rise of Cobra/Pursuit of Cobra line, but never got released. The image for that original 5-Pack can be seen at this post on GeneralsJoes. I’ve also mirrored that image below:
As for the story itself… check out those details below:
“By popular demand, the 2012 convention set stories and enemy factions are revealed…
OKTOBER GUARD Box Set: The 1990s brought us many captivating Cold War stories but this one was kept Top Secret for over two decades! Recently declassified documents revealed the original Oktober Guard (G.I. Joe’s Russian and Warsaw Pact equivalent) team’s “Special Mission” in Siberia to rescue their captured General from the ruthless Iron Grenadiers in OPERATION: BEAR TRAP!”
Okay…now THAT is bad ass. They give themselves an “out” for the dead Oktober Guard members by talking about declassified documents. And they’re also talking about their “captured General”… hmmm… could we see a modern version of General Mayhem from the 2005 set? Or maybe…dare I hope… Voltar?! Of course I misread this, and it’s the Oktober Guard general who is being rescued. Not sure what the angle is there…
Wow. The possibilities are endless! I cannot wait to hear and see more! Check out the Iron Grenadier figure below, and keep your eyes on GIJoeCon.com for the latest intel!
Thanks to ComingSoon.net we have a look at the last G.I. Joe: Retaliation theatrical poster. The poster takes some imagery from the previous character posters and combines it all into one pretty cool looking theatrical poster for the film.
Loving how this looks. Another poster to add to my growing “want list”! Check out the original post on ComingSoon.net, and also mirrored below. Thanks to the Twitter account for the General Geekery Podcast for the heads up!
UPDATE – It looks like there are also posters for Brazil and the UK as well, which I’ve included in the gallery below. The Brazil one is the split one that actually has Firefly in it. The other one with Lee Byung-Hun subtly included is for the UK.
So, poor Flint is 0 for 3 on Retaliation posters. What did he ever do to you, Paramount?!? Thanks to toycollector962 for the updated info.
The past few episodes of What’s on Joe Mind have been somewhat of a whirlwind…between the big 50th Episode, the special edition focusing on G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and our one year anniversary we’ve been trying to do a lot of special things. Well, episode 53 the guys get back to basics a little bit, bringing 12″ aficionado Ace Allgood back to the show and beginning the push towards JoeCon 2012!
I unfortunately had to sit this one out as my hectic business trip to Kansas City left me with strep throat, but I’m looking forward to listening to it with the rest of you guys! Check out the newest episode on our Podbean page, or listen via the embedded player below. As always, show notes are after the jump.
Thanks to Twitter bud toycollector962 for pointing out some great video interviews with the folks involved in the production of G.I. Joe: Retaliation… nothing new or ground breaking, but still, some interviews we have not yet seen (that I’m aware of).
To say I was excited to receive the Amazon Exclusive G.I. Joe: Renegades 4-Pack in the mail last week would be a massive understatement. Ever since I heard the animated style tooling was being pushed aside for more “realistic” figures, I’ve had a clamoring to see what these animated figures would have looked like…and now I have that chance!
It’s a somewhat funny dichotomy, though, because honestly I don’t see much “G.I. Joe: Renegades” in the Storm Shadow figure, even in the animated design. Just read my thoughts below if you’re interested!
While there isn’t any new footage revealed that I can tell in this new Japanese TV spot for G.I. Joe: Retaliation, there is a short intro by Lee Byung-Hun as well as a short closing by Bruce Willis. It almost looks like there’s a scene of Cobra Commander, Firefly, and President Zartan in the middle that might be new, but I’m not certain on that.
Check it out on YouTube, or hit up the embedded player below. Big thanks to skinny from Serpentors Lair for the heads up!
Interesting…sure, we’ve seen a number of interviews at this point, but Empire Magazine takes a slightly different tactic, going through the latest theatrical trailer, scene-by-scene with G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu. Some very cool insight sprinkled throughout, and an interesting way to interview the director. I dig it.
And it looks nice! No indication about who the Oktober Guard might be battling, but that is one heck of a cool looking box. Operation: Bear Trap is the name of the set this year, and check out the great box art below.
As always, keep your eyes peeled to GIJoeCon.com for the latest info on the upcoming Convention!
