Yo Joe!
First of all, a big thanks to Chief over at JoeCustoms.com for the Cobra Commander hook up! I was running towards the end of this daily review trend leading up to G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and this figure arrived just in the nick of time! Then my hands were so jittery from the excitement of seeing G.I. Joe: Retaliation tonight I could barely type.
Oh, the humanity!
Regardless, the review is done and posted in the 30th Anniversary section, or you can hit the direct link below. Thus wraps up my Discount Store “Running Change” versions of these figures. NEXT!
In some places in the world (including one of my local theaters… YAY!) G.I. Joe: Retaliation is actually debuting tonight. But still rolling with the official release date, Twitziller posts the latest update today, focusing on filming techniques.
#3:
Considering so many of the trailers and TV spots include shots in the dead of night with explosions and gunfire, it’s pretty evident that lighting is going to play a large role in the way G.I. Joe: Retaliation effectively portrays battle. In fact, even as we see Firefly rolling up on his motorcycle and unleashing his robotic explosive drones the importance of lighting cannot be understated.
It’s always a challenge to show a dark environment, yet allow enough vision so the viewer knows what they’re seeing. From all appearances, G.I. Joe: Retaliation has accomplished this.
Larry Hama has always established that G.I. Joe isn’t necessarily about war, action, ninjas, or gun battle…at its core, it is about the characters. It is the personality of the characters that keeps them alive and keeps them viable throughout the years.
I would maintain that this remains true in Hollywood as well, and that the translation of these characters into film is equally important for the movie to remain timeless. After all, we don’t all remember the fantastic Aliens movie because of the gun fights, right? We remember it because of characters like Hicks, Ripley, and Hudson. THEY are what made that film, not splattering acid blood all over the place.
So now that things are starting to take shape around G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which characters am I most looking forward to seeing in action? Let’s break it down after the jump:
I’ve showcased the great guys over at TS118 before, and they really pulled out all of the stops for the premiere of G.I. Joe: Retaliation! They were able to coordinate with a local movie distributor to feature their unique and excellently crafted diorama sets at various locations in conjunction with the movie premiere.
Imagine going into your local theater to see G.I. Joe: Retaliation and seeing a full blown G.I. Joe battle scene right in the lobby. Pretty cool stuff right there.

The film stars D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, Ray Stevenson, Channing Tatum with Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson. Directed Jon M. Chu, and produced by Lorenzo di Bonventura and Brian Goldner, from screenplay by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick based on Hasbro’s G.I Joe characters.
Now this is some cool stuff. Speaking as someone who has zero musical talent I always appreciate those folks who can sing or play instruments… but for G.I. Joe fans who have musical talent and actually infuse their fandom with their musical talent? That’s some bad ass right there.
And Wordburglar is doing just that. Check out the details below to listen to this G.I. Joe fan and rap master!
“Welcome To Cobra Island” is a free concept record inspired by
Wordburglar’s love of GI JOE, the comic book works of Larry Hama &
Mike Costa and the animated series written by Buzz Dixon, Flint
Dille, Christy Marx and Steve Gerber (to name a few). The album
features fully possible, swivel arm, kung-fu battle grip and is
suitable for ages 4 and up. The full-length “Welcome To Cobra Island”
will be available for download on May 30th. Yo Joe!
Another character feature has been uploaded to Paramount’s International YouTube Channel, this time it’s Roadblock. We’ve seen some Roadblock ones before, but this features some behind the scenes footage and some snippets of new footage.
