Anyone who has watched an animated series from the 80s and 90s has likely watched something Larry Houston had a hand in. An exceedingly prolific storyboard artist, director, and all around animation legend, Houston was directly involved in much of the Sunbow product, and most famously was the storyboard director for quite possibly the greatest three minutes in animated G.I. Joe history, the opening to 1987’s G.I. Joe: The Movie.
Mike and I sat down and talked all about his work on G.I. Joe as well as other landmark animated series of the time and he was a fantastic interview.
Yes, G.I. Joe fans, a new episode of the What’s on Joe Mind podcast is available and online at Podbean.com!
This one has been in the hopper for a long time, but hopefully it is worth the wait. Some of the news isn’t necessarily timely, but I hope you’ll come join me, Gary, Mike, and NEW FOURTH CHAIR Joe Colton to kick off the G.I. Joe podcasting whirlwind!
Check out the show notes below and you can either hit up Podbean.com or listen to the embedded player below.
SHOW NOTES
This whole episode will speak for itself. New 4th chair, Joe Colton officially joins the rotation! Zack Hoffman and Brian Cummings join us to talk about JoeCon 2015 in our first ever double-interview. None of this episode is timely – AT ALL, but we hope you enjoy it nevertheless. We have two more shows in the “can” that we will be working on in the coming weeks. So, something to look forward to. In the meantime, help the #savegijoe campaign and sign the petition by going to www.savegijoe.org or https://www.change.org/p/hasbro-save-gi-joe.
Thanks to everyone for their patience and understanding during our “hiatus.” It has been a busy year-of-change for all of the hosts.
Thanks to Twitter user The Snackist for letting us know that Amazon.com is currently having a huge sale on its G.I. Joe (and other ) DVD’s! Many of them are at rock bottom prices.
If you haven’t caught up on your G.I. Joe media recently, this is a great chance to grab some DVD’s and back up to date. G.I. Joe: Resolute, G.I. Joe: Renegades, DiC, and Sunbow are all on sale. Check out some of the links below!
The word has been out there for a little while that NBC comedy show Community would be airing an episode based on “G.I. Jeff”, which has some obvious ties to our favorite Real American Hero.
The Community Twitter account even posted an image of G.I. Jeff, which is animated in nature and bears a striking resemblance to a certain First Sergeant.
But wait… it gets better! According to the Twitter account of Mary MacDonald Lewis, her, Bill Ratner, and Michael Bell all play roles in this animated episode! They are, of course, the voices of Lady Jaye, Flint, and Duke from the Sunbow series.
No air date has been listed yet, but it certainly sounds like Joe fans are going to want to tune in for this one!
So, the cool guys at the Cold Slither Podcast Tweeted out a link to one of my old articles covering the history of Roadblock for folks who needed to bone up on their G.I. Joe history before catching G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
That kicked a reminder at me that maybe I should get that post back up on top since G.I. Joe: Retaliation has officially opened and there might be people wondering just who this Roadblock dude is. You can see the original post right here, but I’ve also reposted it at the Read the Rest of the Story link below.
