G.I. Joe Convention Day 3 – the 2013 Product Slideshow!

I’m between seminars at the moment, but wanted to at least get the slideshow images posted from the 2013 Product demonstration.  Many of these items will be in the display and I will get those images posted throughout the day as well, but wanted to get this AWESOME stuff up first.  Highlights:

  • Micro Force Quarter-Sized collectible figures in blind bags.  Over 80 figures to collect and trade.  Foot holes are compatible with normal vehicle foot pegs for display!
  • Alpha sized Night Landing vehicle with Cobra Eel.  Cobra Eel figure is the canceled Rise of Cobra Ripcord which is extremely detailed, highly accessorized and uses the figure design that was sculpted to resemble the Sigma 6 Sigma Suits
  • Night Viper is moved up to Wave 3
  • Very movie accurate “Ultimate Firefly” with mini-HISS in Wave 3
  • Very movie accurate “Cobra Trooper” (Cobra Combat Ninja) in Wave 3
  • Movie accurate “Ultimate Duke” (with Data-Viper Predator Drone) in Wave 3
  • Comic accurate/toy accurate Snake Eyes ’85 w/ Timber totally newly tooled in Wave 4
  • Crimson Guard in Wave 5 with customizable label sheet

New in hand images of G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wave 2 at AC Toys

Call me crazy but I actually really love the play feature of that Wave 2 Firefly.  Yes, it looks like it results in some reduced arm/wrist articulation, but the light up forearms and the long motorized sled are actually pretty damn cool, I think.  At some point we have to think about the children!

Over on ACToys.com Small Evil has posted a wealth of G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wave 2 images including Roadblock, Snake Eyes, Flint, Storm Shadow, and the aforementioned Firefly.  Check out Roadblock and carded images here, and the Firefly images here, and I’ve also mirrored the images below.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wave 2 Roadblock and Snake Eyes in hand images

Prepare to weep with the thought that these figures will now not be available likely until early 2013…  HissTank members DarthDre758 and kennywr22 as well as JoeCanuck member Redmao managed to get their hands on some early samples and have provided really nice pictures of these upcoming figures, which will probably make you cry like they made me cry.

Anyone who was complaining about reduced articulation, a lack of detail, and bizarre accessories can stop complaining, because Wave 2 looks like it is prepared to knock the G.I. Joe: Retaliation ball out of the park.  Full range of motion, amazing detail throughout these movie-accurate figures, and some really incredible weapons, especially at the small size these are.  Very impressive stuff.

While I haven’t been as hard on Wave 1 of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation figures as some, it is easy to tell that some articulation sacrifices were ordered, and the lack of movie reference impacting the overall design of the line.  Things look like they really started coming together in Wave 2, though.  Both of these figures look stellar.  I’m already counting down to early 2013!

Photos continue to come out for G.I. Joe: Retaliation

Even though the film has been pushed back until next March, it’s tough to stop the publicity train once it starts, and a couple more images have emerged from the film.  Ironically one of the images (from Guyism) features Channing Tatum’s “Duke” character in focus, which is interesting since he is the crux of so many rumors behind the film’s delay.

The other image, from ICGMagazine reveals a very nice cover shot of Snake Eyes in his full Retaliation uniform.  Check out the mirrored images below, and thanks to HissTank.com for the info.

From rock star to obscurity and back again – the history of Roadblock

For G.I. Joe fans who have been following the property for only a few short years, this may come as a surprise, but believe it or not, there was a time, not very long ago, where Roadblock wasn’t a household name.  In fact, he wasn’t even on Hasbro’s radar.  A victim of lost trademarks, it seemed inevitable that Roadblock would simply fade from the consciousness of the G.I. Joe faithful and no longer be a major part of ongoing canon.

Sure didn’t turn out that way, huh?

I must give credit to long time Joe buddy Todd of Magnum 6 Delta for prompting me to put this post together, and considering the G.I. Joe: Retaliation motion picture on the horizon, and the potential for redefining the core characters of the Real American Hero brand, the timing couldn’t be better.  Click the “Read the Rest of this Story” link below to check out the full article.
