Another little tidbit I got in my box of goodies was a comic book that looks to be the one that comes with the G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA video game. There are only seven pages of new story in it, and these pages were also featured in Issue #1 of the Rise of COBRA movie adaptation, but I haven’t seen much chatter about it, so I figured I’d bring some attention to it. Maybe it’s just because I love the Marvel Comics character “Taskmaster” so much, but Helix is really resonating with me. I love the character, I love her look, and I really like the concept a lot. She’s apparently going to be a fairly core component of the upcoming video game (which really excites me), but I hope she kind of indoctrinates into the regular IDW universe as well. Perhaps the Helix special being released in August will touch on that a bit.
The story basically involves General Hawk giving Duke a rundown of her abilities as we watch some video of her in action…then he finishes the story by saying that they believe COBRA has her, which I would imagine leads directly into the video game itself.
Here are some of the panels below…a pretty good read, even for only a few pages.

Phil over at JoeReloaded comes through again, this time with a five-page preview for the upcoming third issue of the G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA movie adaptation.
BE WARNED! There are major spoilers in this 5-page preview! As such, I’m posting the actual images after the “jump”, or you can also check them out here.
I will say, I enjoyed the first issue of the adaptation, and the second two are looking really good as well. I’ve already been spoiled on the events in the film, but the way IDW is fleshing them out in comic form works really nicely.

ComicArtFans member Shane Simek has posted 8 pages of lineart from an unpublished #0 issue that eventually got dumped for the story IDW went with when the format of the Joe book changed in production.
With art by Robert Atkins and a story written by Larry Hama, some of the stuff looks a lot more retro in nature, with some really dramatic action sequences as well, especially for only an 8-page layout. Check out the great images right here.

Issue #6 for the much maligned main title of IDW’s G.I. Joe arrived on Wednesday, with some promises from Chuck Dixon that things would ramp up and get a bit more involved. Well, I’m happy to say that Chuck was right…let’s see if other sites agree:
My thoughts are below, after the jump…spoilers contained!

With Star Trek, Transformers, and G.I. Joe all getting the summer blockbuster treatment in 2009, Comic Book Resources took some time and spoke with Andy Schmidt, Editor for IDW Publishing on the challenges and opportunities working with three separate licenses that are all receiving a lot of outside attention this year. Mr. Schmidt also takes some time to speak about the Combat Heroes style kid’s book, “We Are G.I. Joe”. You can read the article here, I’ve also reprinted the G.I. Joe related content below.
A very different project, the “G.I. Joe Combat Heroes: We Are G.I. Joe” picture book, is a bit unusual for IDW. The book introduces the heroic Joes and villains of Cobra to young readers, much as “Transformers: I am Optimus Prime” did for the Autobots and Decepticons. “[Writing ‘We Are G.I. Joe’] was a lot of fun. I hope that kids and parents alike enjoy it,” Schmidt said. “And no, there are no rifles or pistols in the whole thing. Swords, throwing stars, crossbows, and tanks, yes, but no pistols or rifles. Look closely and you may see a couple of very intimidating Super-Soakers though!”
