GIJCC Adventure Team figures available at 2010 Convention

First Class subscribers are starting to get their G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club newsletters in the mail, and while there doesn’t appear to be an update for the Convention Exclusive items, the Collectors’ Club does say that the first three Adventure Team figures will be available at JoeCon 2010!  I for one am really looking forward to these, especially the Doctor Venom.  It’s been too long…  it wasn’t specifically mentioned which three figures would be available, but the three we’ve seen images for so far are Dr. Venom, Air Adventurer w/ FANG Helicopter, and the Land Adventurer with a  Battle Blitz repaint.  Check out the gallery from the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club Panel at JoeCon last year:

Familiar clues emerge for upcoming G.I. Joe Convention Exclusives

How can it feel like an eternity when last year’s Convention was only a few months away?  Well, it has seemed that way, but the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club is finally tossing some bones our way with a couple of hints regarding the upcoming Convention Exclusive sets (both 12″ and 3 3/4″).  Interestingly, the clues for the 3 3/4″ set sound remarkably familiar.
The clues are as follows…
3 3/4″: This might be a history loop…but…something old, something new, something foreign and nothing blue.
12″: I keep returning to this vacation spot.
Well…no offense to the 12 inchers out there, but my attention is focused solely on the 3 3/4″ info…and it’s the same as last year?  Well, last year, everyone (myself included) was convinced that it would be the Red Shadows and Action Force… and this certainly seems like the time to do it.  So yeah…that’s my bet.  For the second year in a row.  :shifty:  Now, the first thing I immediately notice is shenanegans!  Last year, Lanny claimed there was “nothing blue” according to his clue…  Starduster and Manleh sure looked pretty blue…  hmmm.  🙂
Of course, the real question on many fans’ lips is…  what format?  Traditional or modern?  Well, we may have gotten a clue from Brian Savage himself on the GIJCC forums not too long ago…when responding to an inquiry about o-ring tooling being destroyed, this was his response:

“We don’t have an exact count but it is running thin. One of the con figures changed about 3-4 times due to tool issues.”

Hmmm…that certainly seems to point to the fact that they’re currently working with vintage era tooling on this convention set.  Of course, I may be reading way too much into it…and hoping a bit too much as well.  A Red Shadows/Action Force set using the vintage tooling with updated looks?  Yeah, that would be about tops on the list of things I’d like to see.  Crossing my fingers.

GeneralsJoes "Top 50" G.I. Joe figures of the decade

Last week, Mike and I posted a Top 15 list for the last decade, outlining our top 15 figures of the past ten years, and I let readers know that my initial list was actually a top FIFTY, but for obvious reasons, we pared it down simply because…well…a  top 50 list would have been long and probably insane.  But mostly just long.  But a few readers showed an interest in seeing the Top 50 list, so I’m going to post what I was originally starting.  I won’t go into gory details with each and every entry, though, and just leave it as a list, so folks don’t go homicidal halfway through it.
Continued after the jump…

G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club incentive “Big Lob” figure in his high res glory

biglob“The Goal Line is in sigggght”!

Yeah, Big Lob perfectly exemplified the rediculousness of the Sunbow cartoon, yet in a twisted way, seeing him in plastic form finally puts a smile on my face.  I didn’t really like the G.I. Joe animated movie back in the day, and Big Lob nearly made me sick to my stomach, even as a 13-year old kid, but I suppose for completeness sake, it makes sense.  Gotta give the Collectors’ Club credit for thinking outside the box, that’s for sure…  but the fact that we got a Big Lob figure before Pythona, Dr. Venom, or a suitable jungle fatigues Kwinn makes me bitterly angry in my soul…

Check out the details here.  Not my first choice, but a unqiue choice, and a fun choice, which is still what toys are about right?  Actually part of me is impressed that they seem to have gotten a decent representation from existing vintage parts, too.  And you can’t beat the price!
