Thanks to bluesparrow from HissTank.com who reports that in the latest issue of Toy Fare, the previously revealed Mail Away Cobra Commander will not just be a mail away, but will also see limited retail release on the special Cobra themed card. They mentioned August release dates for both Cobra Commander as well as the new Cobra H.I.S.S. tank, and also made mention of an upcoming single card Dusty and Alley-Viper!
Considering what we’ve seen from the Pursuit of Cobra stuff so far, I’m really excited to see what they’re doing with the Alley-Viper. They are really ramping up the accessorization for this new Joe line it would appear, so here’s hoping we get something really bad ass to add to our Cobra armies.

In a pretty surprising story that has flown amazingly under the radar, the third wave of Alpha vehicles that was initially rumored to be cancelled has arrived at retail in the Philippines according to Terror Drome member FeuerFrei.
Does this mean they are soon to arrive stateside as well? The latest Hasbro Q & A reported that these vehicles were just delayed, and not in fact cancelled, but if they hit shortly, that would be a lot earlier than everyone thought.

Another nice post over on HissTank.com reveals some great images of the soon to be released third wave of Alpha scale vehicles, slated to hit in early 2010, according to the latest Hasbro Q & A. Some very nice pictures of all vehicles and vehicle drivers. Not really wild about any of the three vehicles, but Volcano Viper is insane! The new Dusty is pretty freaking great, too, but Leatherneck leaves me a bit “bleh”. Still cool to see the images, though.

Awash with repaints and retools, the next wave of Alpha Vehicles consists of a mostly blech repaint of a mostly blech vehicle, the Lava Pod, however, the Volcano-Viper looks all sorts of kick ass. Pretty funny how he uses the same tooling as the arctic Ice-Viper, yet the ultra-hot weather specialist still looks right at home. A bad ass head sculpt and mask don’t hurt.
The Rockslide is no great shakes either, but the digicam Dusty looks pretty nasty as a great modern update for the familiar old favorite. Hopefully the final version comes with his head scarf, I can’t recall if we saw it during the various convention photo shoots. My least favorite of this underwhelming trio is the TigerClaw, a haphazard repaint and retool of the already haphazard Snake Trax w/ Scrap Iron. But what really bums me out here is the vehicle driver. If they’re going to give us a Leatherneck in green camouflage, couldn’t they at least have made it a pure homage to the ’86 version, rather than this strange dark forest camo? At least that way they’d make the old school folks happy…instead, we get a bizarrly kitbashed version that is unchanged from the original other than a different camouflage scheme that still doesn’t look like the right camouflage scheme. The figure isn’t really a bad one, I guess…he does have some neat military elements, but I can hear those complaints coming a mile away.
Ah, well, at least he’s got the fixed Duke arms. Check out the images below.

Okay, I perused the gallery over at Toy News International, and there wasn’t a whole lot of consequence. Well, that’s not entirely true. The diorama buildings in those images pretty much blew my head clean off. Absolutely amazing…I’d wager the fine folks at Diorama Dreams had just a little to do with those…pure brilliance.
As far as product goes, mostly what we’ve seen before, with a few gems mixed in:
- The Doctor in a white labcoat. Planned variant? Another figure entirely? Hmmm…

- Dusty standing next to the Desert Rockslide; Very nice camouflage patterns on both, but still repaint stuff.

- Mini Subs! Hell yeah…we’ve seen funky multicolored test shots, but no actual in-color production shots of what looks to be the Polar Shark Sub w/ Ice Storm (though they almost look like Volcano Vipers). These things look pretty nasty.

All images, again, came from the Toy News International Rise of COBRA gallery.
