IDW officially announces new classic Marvel G.I. Joe reprints

Although most Joe fans online have seen the Amazon pre-orders for IDW Reprints, IDW has now officially announced that they will be selling Trade Paperback reprints of classic Marvel G.I. Joe Comics that have never been reprinted before.  IDW has announced this on their website, and I’ve also posted the actual Press Release below.

New volume features never-before collected issues #51-60

Diamond order code SEP09 0865; ISBN 978-1600105456

It’s all G.I. JOE – all the time! With the blockbuster movie ushering in a new era of G.I. JOE, IDW is bringing back the classic comics that started it all! Classic G.I. JOE Volume 6, coming in November and under license from Hasbro, will offer fan-favorite issues from the dawn of G.I. JOE, remastered and reprinted for the very first time.

“Casual fans don’t realize what an influential comic book G.I. JOE is-that it’s an important piece of comics history,” said IDW G.I. JOE editor, Andy Schmidt. “It’s a shame that these industry-changing issues have never been collected previously-and obviously we’re extremely proud to be the ones to bring them back into print.”

While previous reprints have stopped at issue #50, IDW is charging ahead and will follow up Volume 6 with subsequent collections of never-before-reprinted material, taking G.I. JOE fans one step closer to a complete collection of there era-defining stories. Classic G.I. JOE Volume 6 will include such action-packed stories like “Thunder Machine,” “Snap Decisions” and “Pit-Fall,” all written by the irreplaceable Larry Hama.

Said Hama, “I think it’s terrific that these issues will finally be reprinted. Rod Whigham was really hitting his stride in these arcs and he was getting top-flight inking by a roster of classy pros. And then, of course, there’s Sgt. Slaughter, Zarana, and the secret of the Terrordromes!”

This great collection of issues also features the dynamic art of Rod Whigham, Andy Mushynsky, Sam DeLaRosa, Kim DeMulder, Bob McLeod and Todd McFarlane, plus J. Scott Campbell provides a fantastic classic-inspired cover.

Justin Eisinger, IDW editor, said “It’s a real pleasure to help bring these issues into print.”

G.I. Joe: Resolute also confirmed for November 3rd Release date

Like the Rise of COBRA, the November 3rd date has floated around for G.I. Joe: Resolute for a while now, and TVShowsonDVD.com has confirmed this information with Paramount and Hasbro reps.  Unfortunately, this news comes at a price…  apparently, G.I. Joe: Resolute will NOT be available on Blu-Ray.  Crap on a stick.

There are some interesting tidbits about release, included in post on the site below:

This past Friday we had the heads-up that the 2009 [adult swim] animated series G.I. Joe: Resolute would be coming to DVD on November 3rd, per advance listings (now both offering discounted pre-orders) at Amazon.com (USA branch; $19.99 SRP) and Amazon.ca (Canadian branch; CA$22.99 SRP).

Today Hasbro and distributor Paramount Home Entertainment confirmed this info, verifying the release date and offering new details about the content. This single-disc release has all 11 installments, which were just 5 minutes each plus a double-length finale (it was originally designed for web delivery, before being picked up for episodic broadcast). All 60 minutes are included on this DVD, plus “exclusive missing footage” according to information the studio provided to retailers today. Video is listed as full screen.

Additional information was found and posted by Brenden Fletcher at The Blu-ray Blog, who begins by lamenting that this release will NOT be available in the Blu-ray format. Brenden’s obviously a fan of the production, and liked it better than the theatrical film (which comes to home video on the same release day). He passes on that the audio for G.I. Joe: Resolute will be in Dolby Digital English 5.1, and that bonus material will consist of a “Now You know” Teaser Promo, Interviews with the Filmmakers, Storyboards, and the “JOE Files”. Brenden tells us this info came from a press release, which somehow missed coming to our in-box, we suppose.

But we DO have a look at what might possibly be the cover art for this release. It’s an early, small (and fuzzy) peek at what may only be some temp art that the studio put in the retailer info, or it could possibly be the front of the actual box. Keep in mind that this may NOT be it, and that even if it is, there could still be changes. But we’re going to go ahead and share it with all of our excited readers nonetheless:

Darkness Falls Update – More Dio-Story Set Pics

So the construction on my diorama sets for Darkness Falls have been continuing on, even if I haven’t said much about it recently.  I had three fairly elaborate sets to build, and I think they’re pretty much squared away.  I need to add some trimming to the throne room, but the foundations are all set.  The three sets are as follows:

  • COBRA Foyer

Basically a large cavernous room the focus of a pretty major shoot out.  The last element I really needed were sandbags, and as I should have expected, Marauder, Inc. came through!  They carry some great PTE sand bags that I used for the set, though I did clean them out of all their stock.  I need to pick up a few more once they get more in.

  • COBRA Tech Center

This was pretty straight forward, thanks to Joe Amaro’s fantastic G.I. Joe Base templates.  Some foamcore, some print cartridges, glue sticks, and I was able to cobble together a pretty effective COBRA tech center.  Tried to make it appear as if it was an underground room, though it didn’t come out quite as good as I’d hoped.  Still, I think it’ll be workable.

  • COBRA Throne Room

Anyone notice a theme here?  :shifty:  The throne room is fairly obvious in purpose, I’d think.  I know it doesn’t look like much now, but I plan on adding some neat accessories to hopefully spice it up a bit.  Once that’s done, I think I feel good enough about these to lock ’em up until I’m ready to shoot in them next year.  Check out the pics below!

Alexx Shorts – Rise of COBRA Sky Sweeper w/ Barrel Roll

We’re used to seeing Alex’s unique viewpoints on various Rise of COBRA figures, but now he’s tackling a vehicle as well with the very cool G.I. Joe Sky Sweeper.  A Firebat repaint/retool, this is an awesome minijet plane with some very cool details that I hadn’t noticed before.

I especially love those landing skids with the heavy firepower mounted on each ski.  A very cool touch that I hadn’t noticed previously.  Anyway, I’ll let the rest of the pictures speak for themselves.  The original thread can be found on JoeBattleLines.

Sideshow COBRA Trooper pics and review – GeneralsJoes Exclusive!

A huge thanks to Mysterious Stranger, who received his Sideshow Collectibles COBRA Trooper very recently, and took some time this weekend to snap some pictures and write up a GREAT review of this figure.

Sideshow is sure making it hard for us armybuilders. Their first nameless soldier out of the chute is the infamous blueshirt Cobra Trooper and man would I like to have a few more of this guy. From the scowling face to the detailed boots, this figure is literally head to toe awesome. He is lacking very slightly in the accessory department but I’ll get to that in a minute. Overall though he’s a great figure and I’ll tell you why.

I didn’t take any pictures of the packaging. If you’ve seen a Sideshow 12″ figure in the last couple of years and the G.I. Joe figures specifically you know what you’re getting. Magnetic flap opening. Tray for the gear and tray for the figure. Awesome ARAH inspired box art with filecard on the back. Collector friendly and display worthy for you MIBers. Same old same old and it works incredibly well…

Some nice loose images of upcoming Wave 3 Alpha Vehicles

Over at Hisstank.com familiar pre-production fan Rulz has come up with the entire third wave of upcoming Alpha vehicles, and has kindly posted a number of images of said vehicles.  The assortment includes the Polar Sharc Sub w/ Ice Storm, the Cobra Lava Pod w/ Volcano Viper, and the Tiger Claw ATV w/ Leatherneck.  Personally, for as much as I love the Rise of COBRA, I do feel like the vehicles have been somewhat lacking, especially the Alpha class stuff.  While the Snarler and the Skysweeper were both pretty cool, I’m not wild about the Rockslide, the Molepod, or the Cobra Snake Trax.  Now, only in the third wave, we’ve got another Molepod, and another ATV Ferret repaint, with a Rockslide repaint coming with Dusty in Wave 4.  It’s getting a bit silly.  Dealing with repaints and mixed tools in the figure line is one thing, but paying $18 for repaint vehicles 2 months after they were released the first time is really pushing it.

But as mixed as I am on the vehicles, the figures are actually looking pretty damn good.  I love the Rollbar and Air Raid from the Snarler and Sky Sweeper.  Ice Storm and Volcano Viper both really kick ass, too.  I even think the upcoming Dusty looks spectacular.

But this post is about Wave 3 isn’t it?  :shifty:

The Polar Sharc Sub actually looks really neat, so I think that one is a home run all around.  Ice Storm is an awesome looking new figure and new character to boot.  The Volcano Viper has some serious potential, but I really didn’t dig the Molepod the first time around, I especially don’t dig the Lavapod repaint.  I will say the Tiger Claw looks a lot cooler than the Snake Trax, though…but Leatherneck doesn’t offer a whole lot of new stuff to love, even in the jungle camo.  Maybe I’ll let the images speak for themselves.
