Target Exclusive Rescue Mission set reviewed at TerrorDrome.com

By and large I’ve been fairly cold on the exclusives for the Rise of Cobra, not really being crazy about the Wal-Mart 2-Packs, the Battle Stations, or even those Target mini-vehicles, but I’ll tell you, that really changes with the Toys “R” Us Attack on The Pit, and with this Target exclusive Rescue Mission has really warmed up to me as well.  When we saw early eBay pics for the City Strike Snake Eyes in black with a Paris Pursuit head, I had absolutely no desire to own it.  The gray, black, and silver version looks so kick ass, why the heck would I want one with less paint apps and a head sculpt that isn’t as cool?  Well, because it’s still an incredible looking figure, and the Paris Pursuit head sculpt gives it much more of a classic “Snake Eyes” feel.  Seriously, this is one freaking awesome looking Snake Eyes.

Add that to the casual outfit Duke (to go along with the same looking Ripcord in the Toys “R” Us set), and you’ve already got two great figures that have a solid place in the movie universe.  Now, the Neo-Vipers?  Well…I don’t have a lot of love for the countless repaints we’re getting of these guys, but the naval paint scheme is really nice, I have to say.  And I guess I can’t complain about the fact that I’ve bought only a small handful of Neo-Vipers in single pack form, and I’m going to end up with a pretty decent arsenal here.

For figures that are pretty basic repaints, this four-pack has some really cool stuff for the Rise of Cobra enthusiast, and the folks at The Terror Drome seem to share that sentiment.  Check out the mirrored images below.

Darkness Falls update – the Throne Room is complete!

The throne room doesn’t see a whole lot of use in Darkness Falls, but what it’s used for plays a critical part in the story, so I wanted to capture the spirit of Cobra Commander’s “home” so to speak.  Huge thanks to dino-viper on JoeSightings.com for the idea about the terrariums (which I ended up finding on eBay here), and I was really psyched when I found that crystal globe…one cheap rubber snake later and there’s a neat statue for the room as well.

Overall, I’m pretty happy how it came out.  I wanted to add a different color scheme with the steps under the throne, but I’m not real happy with the results there.  Beyond that, though, I think it looks decent.  It’ll work.

In preparation for the upcoming Resolute 7-Packs – What Resolute toys didn’t we get?

I’ve seen a few folks ask in the comments section for yesterday’s Resolute boxed set news which figures were the Resolute themed figures that we didn’t get, and wondering what we should expect in the boxed sets to come in 2010.  This is what I’ve cobbled together so far:

Resolute styled figures we didn’t get

  1. Baroness
  2. Destro
  3. Roadblock
  4. Scarlett
  5. Storm Shadow

These would have mostly come in single packs from what I can gather, in various waves from Wave 14 – 15 or 16.

Resolute Marketed figures we didn’t get

  • Arctic COBRA Commander (Comic Pack)
  • Arctic Scarlett (Comic Pack)
  • Training Snake Eyes (Comic Pack)
  • Scuba Duke (Comic Pack – but rehashed as Wet Suit)
  • Crimson Trooper (Comic Pack)
  • Iron Klaw Trooper (Comic Pack)

I think that about covers it.  But keep in mind, I honestly don’t believe we’ll get the above figures in any sort of Resolute boxed set.  I think Hasbro will focus on the figures that really resemble the Resolute “look”, and will also give us some nice “Franken Joes” that use existing tooling, but are mixed and matched to get us some Resolute styled stuff in the boxed sets.

If they made the following packs, I would be on Cloud 9:

G.I. Joe 7-Pack

  1. Roadblock
  2. Scarlett
  3. Flint
  4. Beachhead
  5. Shipwreck
  6. Stalker (sort of wishful thinking, not sure we’d get a new head out of this)
  7. Ripcord

COBRA 7-Pack

  1. Destro
  2. Baroness
  3. Storm Shadow
  4. Zartan
  5. Firefly
  6. Alley-Viper
  7. Arctic  Cobra Commander

Honestly, I think a lot of these are possible.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Joe lineup like it is above, depending on what new tooling they’re willing to invest in.  The above is pretty much a perfect scenario for me, but honestly, I think it is possible.  Whatever we get, I’m certain we’ll see Roadblock, Scarlett, Destro, Baroness, and Storm Shadow, and all five of those figures are fantastic, so no matter what, this is gonna be a winner.

Some info revealed on the upcoming Resolute boxed sets

With the upcoming release of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, various events are going on in Hollywood to celebrate the release of not only Rise of Cobra, but also Transformers 2 and Star Trek on DVD and Blu-Ray.  GeneralsJoes contributor Mysterious Stranger was fortunate to catch up with some Hasbro representatives and has brought us some great intel on the upcoming Resolute items, due to be released in Fall, 2010!  These sets are still very early in the production phase, so all details are subject to change, but this is what we now know:

  • Expect 2 7-Packs, similar to the COBRA Island releases earlier this year, one G.I. Joe and one COBRA.
  • Online Exclusives
  • Every figure we’ve seen to date in pre-production form will be featured
  • Because we haven’t seen enough figures to round off two 7-packs, we can fully expect a larger cast of characters utilizing existing tooling in Resolute decos as well as repaints or reissues of previously released Resolute figures.

Of course, time will tell how this actually ends up, but from the early sounds of it, we’ve got some great Resolute stuff to look forward to next year!  I can’t wait to hear more.  Big thanks to Mysterious Stranger for the intel.

Target Rescue Mission 4-Pack available on Target.com

For folks like me who don’t have a local Target, yet really want to pick up the Rescue Mission 4-Pack (with spandex Duke, City Strike Snake Eyes in black, and two naval Neo-Vipers), you now have your chance at Target.com.

But for those of you who do have Targets nearby, and you want to know if your local store has these in stock, there’s an inventory checker as well, that will help you quickly scan those local stores and see if they have what you’re looking for.

Get to know G.I. Joe at ChicagoTribune.com

If the Rise of Cobra did nothing else, it at least served to thrust the G.I. Joe brand back into America’s consciousness, which, in this fan’s opinion, is a very good thing.  A couple of years ago seeing a G.I. Joe themed article at the Chicago Tribune would have been something I would have been shocked to see, but today, ChicagoTribune.com has a pretty neat flash-based retrospective on G.I. Joe’s history.

Check it out here.

There isn’t anything revolutionary or especially new to most long time Joe fans, but still cool to see some mainstream media coverage of our favorite fighting man.

W00t! More awesome Pursuit of COBRA test shot images online

As usual, Gyre-Viper over at HissTank.com comes through with some more sweet pictures of some equally sweet upcoming Pursuit of Cobra figures that are pretty much blowing my head clean off.  I really am not normally a big fan of arctic figures normally, but holy crap if these two guys don’t look incredible.

The Pursuit of Cobra stuff below is the Duke (Arctic Threat) and Snow Job (Arctic Threat) from early assortments of The Pursuit of Cobra slated to arrive in 2010, though common thought is that figures should start hitting retail around the holiday season this year.

These figures just look…amazing.  The bulky insulated arctic uniforms, the totally rocking accessories!  I love both of those backpacks…Snow Job’s sniper rifle is inSANE.  I also really love those snap-out wings on Duke’s snowboard.  Such cool looking stuff…initially I wasn’t going to dive headfirst into all of the Pursuit of Cobra figures, especially with the Arctic figures, but damn…I HAVE to own these.  They are incredible.

Along with the Pursuit of Cobra figures, there are also images of a Silver Mirage and Chuckles that would have likely been released in the 25th Anniversary line.  The colors on the test shot are indicative of early samples of Chuckles with the dark gray shirt, so I would imagine they were probably slated to be sold together in some sort of battle pack.  As such, I wouldn’t expect to see that to arrive in that incarnation in the Pursuit of Cobra.  Still very cool to see the images online!  Check ’em out below, and big thanks again to Gyre-Viper for sharing these pictures.

Rise of COBRA Wave 5 found at retail! Check K-Mar–… wait… what?

Yes, you read that right.  Possibly the black hole of new toys, K-Mart has scored a nice little coup, apparently being the first brick and mortar retailer to showcase Wave 5 of G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA.  Featuring very cool new renditions of Duke and Ripcord, as well as the best 3 3/4″ piece of plastic ever experienced in human existence, City Strike Snake Eyes.

Findings have been reported on HissTank.com, and I’ve mirrored images below.  Go get ’em!
