So I spent the last 24 hours salivating over a Sideshow Collectibles product (the Cobra Viper) and the fact that Zartan was going to make a re-appearance in G.I. Joe: Renegades. Come in from snowblowing tonight, and all of a sudden it all comes crashing together!
Sideshow has released a “Production Peek” which just happens to feature a look at our favorite Master of Disguise. And it’s a hell of a look.
If that ain’t about the coolest thing… very reminiscent of the classic Zartan, but even more angular and updated. This could be another winner.
Well, it’s kind of a review. Since there wasn’t much that changed (other than the color) I didn’t necessarily go real deep into it, but I did talk about some of the differences of the two and of course included a bunch of pictures.

By and large, many folks have been complaining about Zartan’s first appearance in the G.I. Joe: Renegades universe…but it looks like the Renegades writers are looking to make it right, with Episode 14 – “Knock Offs”. According to TVGuide.com, the infamous Cobra Master of Disguise may finally get a recognizable look:
“Lady Jaye and Flint use Zartan to track the Joes. Meanwhile, the Baroness tries to sneak a camouflage suit to Cobra”
Excellent. According to Zartan’s official bio, he steals the camouflage suit, and something tells me, he will end up looking a lot more like the Zartan we know and love. Can’t wait.
So last month when I reviewed Issue #26, I praised the art and the overall story, but was disappointed that this particular story was put where it was. A cool and fun tale, but it didn’t serve well as the culminating issue of a two-year long story arc.
I agreed to give Dixon one more chance to surprise me, and with Issue #27 hitting this week, it’s time to say whether he pulled it off.

It’s actually been online for a couple of days, but I’ve been busy and woefully negligent considering how hard these guys work to do this excellent newsletter. Not only that, but there are some great revelations about the upcoming Canadian JoeCon Convention Set! Two artist renditions of characters right on the front page.

Don’t forget to discuss all of the JoeCanuck coolness on their message boards as well.
For fans of G.I. Joe: Renegades like myself, the date March 4th had been circled on the calendar as the next new episode. According to MSN TV.com it was slated to be “Whiteout” and rumors indicated that perhaps Snow Job would be making an appearance.
This does not seem to be the case, however, as enterprising Renegades fan kennywr22 has checked his DirectTV listings, and the next episode is now not slated to air until March 11th. The March 11th episode will be “Brothers of Light” featuring the debut of Tomax and Xamot!
This information does seem to jive with other things, too, considering we already saw a promo video for Brothers of Light, and already had an episode description for it as well. According to the IMDB Episode Guide, Whiteout is now Episode 15, and will be airing after “Knock Offs”.
Thanks very much to kenny for this information!
I can’t quite fully articulate the level of awesome that this Cobra Viper figure has achieved. The Sideshow Collectibles Production Blog has posted the above images (plus several more) and the pre-order should be live February 24th with the arrival of the Sideshow Collectibles newsletter. Click here to check out all the details, but dammit, let me buy my Sideshow Exclusive when the pre-order goes live!
Some news has been leaking here and there a bit about the upcoming G.I. Joe Sequel, and Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner talked to MTV News about what to expect. For folks who weren’t big fans of the original some good news to come out of the discussions…while there will be a “tip of the cap” to the original film, Goldner expects the sequel to pretty much stand on its own. Not necessarily the “reboot” some were hoping for, but it certainly sounds like they’re looking at what didn’t work in the first film and making some changes. Check out the full quotes from Goldner below:
“”There is a really great idea in the second ‘G.I. Joe,'” he said. “In many ways, it’ll be great for the people who saw the first one, but you don’t need to have studied every element of the first one to enjoy the second. We’ve made sure that that’s the case.”
He continues on…
“”Obviously, we know coming out of the first film that the president is an impostor,” Goldner explained. “You might begin with the knowledge of having your president as an impostor. What would that mean? From that, you can tell a very big story without only having to rely on the chronology of the first film.”
