G.I. Joe Convention 2012 Para Drop Cobra Stealth Paratrooper

I know my updates have been a bit sparse over the past 24 hours, but there hasn’t been a whole lot to discuss beyond the sales floor crush last night.  I did get a chance to participate in the 2012 Convention Para Drop this morning, and received my complete Cobra Stealth ParaTrooper.  Check out the images below.  This figure is a G.I. Joe: Retaliation Cobra Trooper in black with gold goggles and Cobra emblem.

The folks who grabbed these parachute figures on the ground didn’t get all of the accessories, but I believe the Club will supply you with the accessories if you approach them.

Check out the pictures below.

More images and details from the GI Joe Convention Boxed Set

Had a few moments of down time today, so figured I would take some of the trademark “Con Hotel” pictures of the 15 figure boxed set and talk a little bit more about the details of some of the figures within (good and bad).

First and foremost, we have the Iron Grenadiers.  By and large, I’m actually more impressed with the IG figures in person than I was online.  There is much less contrast between the brown legs and the rest of the figure than there was in the official images we saw from the Collectors’ Club.  The yellow is also a lot more subdued, looking a lot more gold here, which is a good thing.  I’m going to spend the rest of this post talking specifically figure by figure, so click the Read the Rest of the Story link below to see all of my initial, early thoughts.

Further proof that Darklon is one of the G.I. Joe Con attendee exclusives

A small error in the production of JoeCustoms member bithomas’ figure set has revealed that Darklon is most assuredly one of the as-yet-to-be-revealed G.I. Joe Convention exclusive figures, most likely part of the IG Ground Assault 2-Pack.

JoeCustoms member bithomas accidentally received the filecard for Darklon in his 15 figure boxed set.  If these filecards were produced, then that can only prove that Darklon is certainly involved somewhere.  Check out the mirrored image below, again from JoeCustoms.com:

What’s on Joe Mind G.I. Joe Convention Coverage – Day One

Not even here for 12 hours yet and already a quick podcast episode under our belts!  Golden Ticket holders got a chance to get their mitts on the boxed sets today, which also included the convention comic.  This Con Comic outlines the rest of the attendee exclusives that we are receiving tomorrow and the artwork also reveals some potential details about the items being offered.

SHOW NOTES

G.I. Joe Con 2012 Attendee Exclusives revealed

As has become the custom, thanks to the Golden Ticket early pick up and the Convention comic (which contains a listing of exclusives as well as the comic art itself) we are getting a clear picture about what to expect from the G.I. Joe Convention exclusives tomorrow night.

First and foremost, the attendee exclusive was revealed to be an Oktober Guard themed repaint of the Rise of Cobra Snarler Cycle, pictured below.

Along with this reveal, we also discovered that the Convention Exclusive attendee items for 2012 are the following:

  • Annihilator 3-Pack (LE 650)
  • IG Ground Assault 2-Pack (LE 1,000)
  • Cobra Stealth Paratrooper (LE 500)
  • OG Attack Helicopter (LE 600)
  • Soviet Convoy Truck w/ 3 Tops (LE 500)

Based on what we see withn in the comic, I think it’s a fair guess that the Annihilator 3-Pack will feature 3 Annihilators, most likely using the backpack helicopter that came with the 25th Anniversary Matt Trakker.  From some pieces of the comic art it looks as if they will use some Iron Grenadier parts, based on the back of the legs and the gauntlets.  The helmet in the far away shot almost looks like an Ice Viper or other Rise of Cobra large-visored head sculpt.

Because of his prominence throughout the Con comic, it’s also a no-brainer that Darklon will likely be a part of the IG Ground Assault 2-Pack and he looks to have a new head sculpt, the same webgear as the Marauders Taurus figure with a healthy dose of Pursuit of Cobra Firefly parts underneath.  The other figure is sort of a mystery.

No ideas about the Cobra Stealth Paratrooper other than it’s most likely the parachute figure and will not be available for sale until after the parachute drop on Friday.

Oktober Guard Attack Helicopter appears to be a repainted Rise of Cobra Dragonhawk, while the Soviet Convoy truck looks like the truck from Indiana Jones, which actually works fairly well in this regard.

I’ll be honest, this is a LOT more exclusives than I expected.  Two vehicles and two separate figure packs, not to mention carded Footloose.  Speaking of carded Footloose, the Club has brought 500 of them to the Con and they are limited to ONE PER PERSON including Golden Ticket holders.  The reason for this according to Brian Savage is that they are not convention items, they are Club items, and they are specifically holding some back to sell after the Convention, something that is sure to please a number of fans out there.

Conspicuous by his absence as well is Dragonsky, who has been a hotly desired part of this Con set, but it looks like he will not come with this particular set.  The reason I assume that is that he does show up in the Convention comic, but his uniform is based on the 2004 Comic Pack version, with no updated designs that might meld him into the modern set.  He also appears to get wounded in the convention comic, which would account for the fact that he is not a major part of the story.

Check out some images below of the comic art, reflecting some of these things that I mentioned.  Looking forward to seeing more tomorrow!

A huge thanks to MadMac41 of  JoeBattleLines for the info and the picture assistance!  He came through big time.

What’s on Joe Mind Two-For-One as GIJoe Con approaches!

Without much time for editing, Gary was still able to slam out a couple episodes of What’s on Joe Mind for your listening pleasure while you travel to the G.I. Joe Convention in New Orleans this week!

I’m currently in Louisiana myself, so I won’t be doing the full blown show notes, but I figured I can at least link up the episodes in formats that everyone can check out.  You can also, of course, just hit up our Podbean Page to grab the episodes there as well.  Enjoy!

JoeBattleLines gets back in the saddle with Marauder Wave 6 Review!

Speaking as someone who has known Fred for a very long time, I’ll say that his reviews, posts, and overall G.I. Joe content has been missed over the past several years.  Thankfully, it looks like Fred (AKA LeonardoTDragon) is tossing his hat back into the ring and working to get content roaring back to JoeBattleLines.

For a long time JBL has been a mainstay of the G.I. Joe community and I’m proud to say I used that platform to express my love for Sigma 6 back in the Sigma 6 Central days.  I’m thrilled to see Fred bringing some more new reviews to the table, and you should be, too.

Check out his update post where he talks about his Joe life a little bit more, and make sure you scope out his Marauder Wave 6 review as well.  Good stuff all around.

Welcome back, Fred, we missed you, you old coot.

GeneralsJoes hitting New Orleans – G.I. Joe coverage ahoy!

After a one year break, GeneralsJoes is heading back to the G.I. Joe Convention this year, and expect the same level of coverage that you’ve always gotten in years past!  I’m a one man show, and I may not get the information up first, but I will always strive to get great images, well-organized information, and as much detail as humanly possible on the seminars, the Con exclusives, and the potential happenings for this year and next.

Keep checking GeneralsJoes.com over the next five days, and if you’re not already, follow me on Twitter as I will give some ‘up to the minute’ stuff there, simply because it’s easier and quicker than finding a spot to fire up the laptop and post.

Rest assured, by the end of the weekend we should hopefully have a clear picture of where G.I. Joe is heading over the next year, and I’m honored to be one of the places you go to get that info.  Hopefully I’ll see a bunch of you down in New Orleans, but if not, I’ll take some pictures for ya!

Carded Heroes reviews upcoming (hopefully) Kwinn figure!

Considering they are apparently this far along in the production process, I would guess that chances of seeing Kwinn at some point in the future are probably pretty good.  But if not, we can all live vicariously through Gary (who owns this piece) or Jay (who reviewed this piece).

I will try to set aside my raging jealousy for a moment and commend Jay for a fantastic review of this much anticipated figure.  But even more importantly than that I can’t help but just marvel at the figure itself.  So basic, yet so amazing.  Evident now is that some of these parts were also used in the GIJCC Footloose figure, but seeing it all come together here on Kwinn is just a sight to behold.  A figure that has been so desired for so long, and seeing it done this well.  It is exceptionally painful to think this does not yet have a retail spot, yet also exhilarating to think it most likely will get some sort of release some time (hopefully) soon.  I know I’ll be hassling Hasbro about this guy in New Orleans.

Check out the full review over at CardedHeroes.com and I’ve also mirrored a few images below.

And if you see Gary Godsoe at the Con, give him a nut kick and tell him to send the figure to me next time.  Kay?  Thanks.
