12 for ’12 – GeneralsJoes Top 12 What’s on Joe Mind Episodes of 2012

So did you think 2012 was a slow year for G.I. Joe?  While the fine folks behind the What’s on Joe Mind Podcast did drop down their recording schedule a bit to accommodate a slow trickle of Joe news, there were still many exciting G.I. Joe events to talk about.

From animated voice actors to movie news and toy reports, What’s on Joe Mind covered the gamut of G.I. Joe news and events for the year.

Even with a much slower recording schedule in the back half of 2012, it was tough to pick out 12 isolated episodes, but with Gary and Mike’s help, somehow I made due.

New NECA 3 3/4″ Gears of War figures look the part

I’ve seen this image passed around quite a bit today, and with the latest Big Bad Toy Store newsletter, there are now some pre-orders to go along with it.  NECA has long established their place in action figure lore, but mostly in the larger scale figures for licensed properties like Predator, Terminator, Robocop, and Prometheus (among many others).  To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time they’ve experimented with the 3 3/4″ scale (or perhaps these are closer to 4″?).

The results are pretty impressive from an appearance point of view.  Anyone who has played (or even seen) the video game Gears of War will acknowledge there is a very distinct artistic style to the characters and the game, and NECA has done an exceptional job capturing that style.  Large, bulky figures with all of the right gear and accessories, these Gears of War toys could almost pass for 6″ at first blush, but apparently they fall closer to G.I. Joe sized.

While I’m not necessarily a huge Gears of War enthusiast, I have certainly played the games quite a bit, and I am very pleasantly surprised by the quality and articulation of what I see here, though the apparent lack of a swivel bicep is a bit disconcerting.  I’ll be paying close attention to this line as it gets closer to release.  Early indications are pretty damn good.

Marauder “Gun Runners” Kickstarter Campaign – the Final Countdown…

Okay, we’re down within the final 24 hours of the Marauder “Gun Runners” Kickstarter campaign and the good news is, Marauder has MET THE KICKSTARTER GOAL!  Woo hoo!  As of 7:45 this morning, contributions have been met to make this project happen.

Keep in mind, Marauder has plenty of stretch goals as well, and the more money that comes in, the more stuff that will be available to everyone.

As an added thank you, Marauder has also beefed up the rewards for folks contributing at the Pirate Horde or Double Horde levels.  This may provide an added incentive to bolster your contribution.  The Marauder “Gun Runners” Kickstarter page is right here, and read the details of the latest update below.

Hey Folks!

Since we might not hit some of the “stretch” goals and we really want to add “more” stuff to the packages….we are ADDING a Complete Series #6 set in “Realistic” paint scheme to the Pirate Hoard level (and 2 to the Double Hoard level) as a “thank you” for those contributing to our project (at NO addtional costs to those who have participated at those levels or will participate at those levels).  Also, will be glad to “swap” out the below painted Series #6 set for the “Realistic” painted new items (Picaroon level) or the “Desert Tan” painted new items (again, can make your selection in the after event “survey”).

Come on, Joe fans!  If you love G.I. Joe, I know you love what Marauder “Gun Runners” has done for the hobby over the past 10 years.  Some of the best in scale weapons and accessories that the G.I. Joe line (or any 1:18 scale line for that matter) has ever seen.

The Kickstarter project is almost done, and there is still a little ways to go, so let’s all put our money where our mouths are and put it over the top!

Check out the Kickstarter Page right here!  There isn’t much time left.

What’s on Joe Mind Episode 68 featuring the one and only Marauder John now online!

Poor Gary has been trying for over 90 episodes (including Special Editions) to try and track down Marauder John and get him on the show, and he finally made it happen.  Marauder “Gun Runners” is one of those companies that has been around for a long time in Internet years, and it’s hard to remember a time before they existed, but we talk to John about what got him started down this path and some of his collecting origins.

It was a fascinating discussion with a guy who has had a huge influence on the hobby through his weapons store, and even though I’ve talked to him a number of times over the past many years, it was great to “get together” with him again and talk.  Any Joe fan will gain a wealth of knowledge from him, and on your next order mention that you heard him on the Podcast!  He’ll throw in a free weapon for ya!  And of course we want to encourage everyone to visit the Marauder “Gun Runners” Kickstarter as well to help fund the next series of weapons.  It’s an awesome project with some awesome potential results, and worth contributing to for sure.  Click here to contribute.

But that’s not all…the entire show was chock full of Joe news and discussion as it always is, and I had to leave early, so you even miss the GeneralsJoes corporate influence.  Click on the embedded players below and Show Notes are after the jump.
