A few days ago we reported that a group of revealed repaints were being reported as parts of Toys “R” Us 3-Packs, and we now have further elaboration on that. Apparently these are part of some new “Senior Ranking Officer” packs, and an image of these appears over on The Terror Drome. I’ve also mirrored the image below.

Bad Sociologist over on HissTank.com reports that his Toys “R” Us received a nice assortment of stock for the upcoming Rise of COBRA toyline, but when he scanned the UPC, it reported that the items couldn’t be sold until July 4th. We’d previously heard dates of July 11th and July 6th, and other Toys “R” Us assortments had reported July 10th, so at this point, it’s somewhat tough to tell exactly what the solid street date is. I personally think a July 4th date would be great as a tie in to Independence Day… whatever the actual date is, early July is just around the corner, so buckle your seat belts!
Another nice tidbit of information that was provided in that thread on HissTank was a rundown of the case assortment. I’ve reposted that below.
Wave 1:
- Destro x2
- Duke: desert x2
- Baroness: pit attack x2
- Viper x2
- Snake-eyes x2
- Storm shadow:full uniform x2
Wave 2:
- Heavy Duty: base camo
- Heavy Duty: reactive armor
- Viper: heavy weapons
- Shipwreck
- Cover Girl
- Deep Six
- Ripcord: reactive armor x2
- Scarlett: camo uniform
- Zartan

Early this morning I reported on the leaked vehicle images that had shown up, and I’ve spent the morning doing some research, and I’ve got a little elaboration on what these items may be. Keep in mind, this is hypothetical on my part, but I’m feeling pretty good about what I’ve got here, notes-wise.
- Desert Rockslide w/ Dusty (Alpha Vehicle)
- COBRA Lava Pod w/ Volcano Viper (Alpha Vehicle)
- Tiger Claw w/ Leatherneck (Alpha Vehicle)
- Polar Shark Sub w/ Ice Storm (Alpha Vehicle)
- Snow Cat w/ Whiteout (Bravo Vehicle)
- COBRA Fury w/ Alley-Viper (Bravo Vehicle)
This information was gleaned from retailer lists and some process of elimination. We should find out at SDCC how accurate this little list is. I’ve also got non-watermarked versions of the images hosted below!

July is right around the corner, and the official street date for the G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA toys is bearing down upon us fast and furious. Smaller retailers are starting to get these items in early, as gunslingercbr reports from HissTank.com. Also Terror Drome member Firefly, who is a Toys “R” Us employee mentions that his store has started receiving stock with a street date marked July 10th.
I know I’m risking fandom onslaught for this, but from my own personal perspective, I haven’t been looking this forward to a new G.I. Joe line since the Sigma 6 days. I am just flat out ecstatic waiting for these movie figures…the early stuff that I’ve seen so far has been impressive to say the least, and I am just loving what they’re doing design-wise for the video game related stuff, too. I love the Reactive Armor suits, Flash and Helix are blowing my skirt up in a big way, and I’m just fired up to once again get dropped into a brand new mythology. From the prequel comic to the Above and Beyond novel, the video game, and the movie itself, we’re really getting a nice new sandbox to play with our toys in, and I absolutely cannot wait. Bring it on!

Dipping into their normal pool of resources, the guys at HissTank.com have received some pictures of upcoming product tied into G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA. Some of it is stuff we’ve seen, just pieced together here, though there is some interesting new items, most notably a retooled Ferret with what looks to be a Leatherneck repaint? Could it be a more accurate vintage version? There’s also some more pictures of the mysterious small vehicle that I called a “minisub” at one point, which has been shown in the most recent trailer as a flight pod flying over the snow. Some interesting stuff, to be sure, you can check out the original thread at HissTank here, or see the images below.

Hisstank also got their hands on some pictures of possible upcoming Combat Heroes. It’s still a question whether or not these will all get released, since some of the items in this image below look like more vintage styled stuff, but it’s still pretty neat to look at. Check out those images below as well, with the original thread here.

The Terror Drome reports of some information gleaned from overseas auctions indicates that many of the recent revealed repaints are of Toys “R” Us exclusive 3-Packs. Keep in mind that this is merely rumor so far, and is not the least bit confirmed, but there are a round number of figures that fit that theme. The rumored figures are as follows:
- Grunt (Woodland camo repaint of Wave 1 Zartan)
- Sgt. Stone (Green repaint)
- Destro (Blue and red repaint)
- Elite Viper
- Neo-Viper (Blue repaint)
- Speed Metal (Accelerator Suit guy with Serpentor head)
I must say, if this news is true, I’m happy to hear it. With the rash of revealed repaints, I was pretty worried that the main line might get heavily diluted with minor color changes that meant little or nothing to the plot, but I’m happy to see these being relagated to exclusives. It’s also pretty neat to see a couple of new characters mixed in here like Grunt, Speed Metal, and Elite-Viper. A good thing for TRU, but also good for the collectors who want to keep the main line for the original stuff. Check out the recent images mirrored below. I’ve also included some past pics that are of higher quality, just to give a good reference point.
Thanks again to WildWeasel from The Terror Drome for the scoop.
