Throughout the online community there’s been some discussion about the promotion of The Hub (or perceived lack thereof), so I figured it would be of interest to readers to point them to an Adweek Interview with Hub Marketing Chief Amber Tarshis.
She talks about the marketing angle with The Hub and how they’ve used other networks (including other Discovery Network channels) to promote the coming of The Hub. One really interesting nugget I’ve listed below:
“Every single network [in the Discovery family] is contributing in some way. That includes running commercials for the Hub free of charge to us and creating sponsored programming stacks. For example, the mom-targeted morning programming on TLC is sponsored by the Hub. We even have the Military Channel sponsoring a stack “brought to you by the new G.I. Joe Renegades.”
Pretty interesting to see them putting a stack on the military channel about the upcoming G.I. Joe series. I know a lot of folks have also reported billboards throughout the country as well as web-based advertisements on various websites out there, too.

As promised the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club has officially revealed the 2011 Membership Exclusive incentive figure, Dial Tone!
Where the infamous G.I. Joe Communications Officer has been given a recent sex change in the IDW and Resolute universes, the Collectors’ Club features him in his familiar 1986 glory, filling a major hole in the 25th Anniversary line up.
Utilizing the torso from the 25th Anniversary Buzzer, arms and legs from Sgt. Airborne, and a newly tooled head and communications backpack, Dial Tone looks ready to fill in that vacancy in your 1980’s display shelf. A great looking update, and a good path to start going down for the Collectors’ Club, I have a feeling this will draw new people in a big way. Click the thumbnail preview below to check out the entire image!

Also of note is the newly shaded image for the upcoming Adventure Team “Sea Adventurer”…judging by the shadow, he looks to be coming with a repainted “Sting Raider” from the Valor Vs. Venom and Rise of Cobra line. Very cool little tidbit! Check it all out at GIJoeClub.com!

Ya know, I haven’t posted one of these in a while… I’ve seen plenty of awesome customs around, but just didn’t get a chance to post them up. But this PoC Kamakura from HissTank member Mythic has prompted me to change that tune.
My recent review of the Pursuit of Cobra Jungle Assault Snake Eyes left me thinking that there were absolutely zero redeeming qualities about that battle-action Snake Eyes figure. Well, Mythic has proven me completely and totally wrong. This Kamakura is amazing.
Check it out here and some of the images are mirrored below.

by generalsjoes | Oct 7, 2010 | Comics and Cartoons, G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe: The Movie, Operation: H.I.S.S.
Along with information on their upcoming television network, Hubworld.com is also airing much of the content ported over from Hasbro’s MonkeybarTV video site. Included with that run of episodes is the ninth installment of G.I. Joe: Operation HISS. Featuring a follow up to the last episode with Scarlett, Snake Eyes, Kamakura, and Storm Shadow, this continues to universe started by G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.
You can find the episode on Hubworld.com and I’ve also mirrored some screen caps below. This certainly won’t take the place of G.I. Joe: Renegades, but it’s the best we got until December, by the looks of things.

by generalsjoes | Oct 7, 2010 | 5 Page Previews, Comics and Cartoons, G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe Comics, IDW
From early indications, things look like they’re ramping up in the main G.I. Joe title with issue #23. Rumored to introduce Storm Shadow (something the cover certainly seems to back up) and also featuring Agent Helix for the first time in the mainstream title.
Well, the five-page preview confirms the Helix angle, but we have yet to see where Storm Shadow factors in. I’ve made it clear how much I love the way Helix looks in action figure form, and I find her backstory to be very interesting…but I will admit this five-page preview has me a bit put off. She’s definitely got a “Mary Sue” vibe going on here that I’m not crazy about. Her first appearance, and she’s instantly humiliating the biggest bad ass on the Joe team? Uhhh… anyway.
Check out the five page preview below, I’ll definitely give Dixon a chance to win me over here, I do love Helix, and I hope they can do some cool things with her without making her too indestructible. Personally, I’m looking more forward to the Stalker angle here than others.
