Dollar store exclusive G.I. Joe figures hit retail in the Philippines

Well look at that!  Over on HissTank.com Snakefox is reporting that he was able to score a case of the much sought after “Dollar Store” G.I. Joe figures at a local retailer in the  Philippines.

This is great news for Joe fans, as many of us have been drooling over these figures since they were first revealed just a week ago.  Snakefox reports that they are “3-4 dollars cheaper” than regular retail G.I. Joe figures.  Check out the discovery thread right here and look at the mirrored images below.

G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club unveils the first G.I. Joe Convention exclusive!

And it’s a beauty as we’ve come to expect!  Check out GIJoeCon.com to see for yourself…

Oktober Guard’s resident sniper…  Daina!

It was somewhat of a no-brainer that she would be the first figure reveal with the box art and the comic page already shown, but seeing the figure in the “flesh” so to speak is always the best feeling!  And this figure does NOT disappoint!  Wow, a totally new head sculpt and new “tanker’s cowl”.  That camouflage pattern is absolutely amazing.

Beautiful figure.  Check out the mirrored image below.

GI Joe Collectors’ Club – Subscriptions back online!

The following information comes via email from the G.I. Joe Collectors Club!

Hello all!

We have now taken the next step in getting the store fully online.  Since you are getting this email, that means your account is in good standing and you don’t need to do anything with your membership until you get further instructions from the new store.

What we do need is for you to spread the word that anyone whose membership has lapsed and wants to get back in the club starting with the May issue, needs to join by this Friday April 20th.  They can do this from any of the regular links at GIJoeClub.com or by clicking here.  Anyone starting now will receive the free figures offered for 2013.

Please tell them to go to the store, put the membership in their basket and check out.  If they had a log-in it is still valid and they can use the retrieval function to get their password.  They will be eligible to order the extra Footloose or Man of Evil figures from this year’s runs when they are put online.

If you want multiple memberships, remember that you can only have one membership per email (same for any Transformers Club memberships).  Every email address can only have one membership attached to it whether it is a Joe or TF membership.

I know you are all wanting to order the exclusive figures as well, but there are still a couple of known bugs we have to get worked out in order for us to add products to the new store.  Currently, the store can only be used to join the Club.  We are shooting for the first week in May to have these items online.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks for your support!

Brian

G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club Footloose is arriving… with better wrist articulation!!

Wow, this is a very pleasant surprise.  The G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club notified us all last week that the Footloose figures were now shipping, and HissTank user Blot has received his!  How did someone in England receive their figure before everyone in the US?  I have no idea, but the best news is that Blot took some nice pictures of Footloose, and I’ll be damned.  He’s got the ball joint wrists!

I don’t believe we’ve seen those in any previous image.  An awesome addition by the Club and the figure is looking even cooler now.  Check out a couple of mirrored images below, take a look at HissTank.com for the rest, but most importantly keep your eye on those mailboxes!  Footloose incoming!

Details revealed about vintage-themed mystery G.I. Joe figures

So with big thanks to Gyre Viper and JoeDeClassified, we got a very nice look at some potential upcoming figures to be released this year.  With much of the focus being placed on the G.I. Joe: Retaliation movie line, this figure assortment (which contains some very old school classic deco’s) sort of came out of left field and has many fans scratching their heads.

Well, looking to find some answers, I asked around a little bit to see what I could find.

A reliable source tells me that these figures are themed as a low price-point assortment, mostly targeted for Dollar Stores.  The idea of the assortment was to take some of the well known core characters and get them into retail outlets, but to do it in interesting ways, and ways that existing tooling would allow.

With the idea of paint applications, apparently some decisions had to be made for cost purposes, and even though a figure like Cobra Commander looks to be somewhat bland, he has the same paint apps as anyone else, they’re just applied differently.  As far as paint applications go, too, each paint app adds cost to the overall product, so to keep pricing low, the number of different paint applications also had to be kept low. While the price has yet to be revealed, we can expect to see these priced lower than the mainline items.

Release dates are uncertain, but we should expect to see these hit Dollar Stores this summer.

Obviously at this point, these details could be subject to change, but I consider this information to be extremely reliable.  Again, to see some images of these figures, check out JoeDeClassified.com.

If nothing else this assortment brings a certain enlightenment to me.  Ever since its release, I’ve always hated the Ninja Force Storm Shadow.  I wasn’t entirely sure why, but it’s clear to me now.  I think the design and the limited articulation of the original figure significantly impacted my overall opinion of the uniform itself.  Seeing this similar design on a much better base figure really gives new light to the look of the figure in a way I didn’t appreciate back in the 90’s.  It’s amazing that after 15 or so years, taking old school deco’s and applying them to newer figures can still bring things to light after all this time.

A great looking assortment, and great news about them potentially hitting discount and dollar stores.  Hopefully there’s more still to come!

Landmark 50th Episode of What’s on Joe Mind is online!

It’s the golden episode of the web’s longest running G.I. Joe podcast, What’s on Joe Mind!  Join us as we celebrate the occasion with former G.I. Joe comic writer Brandon Jerwa, with Marvel Comics Director of Communications Arune Singh, and featuring some very surprising (and most welcome) call-in congratulations!

The first 30 seconds of the show is about the most geeked-out moment I have ever experienced in the history of G.I. Joe collecting.  It’s a “can’t miss” experience!

For G.I. Joe fans, you’re going to want to hear about Brandon Jerwa’s new project “Shooters” that he is working on with Eric Trautman and artist Steve Lieber.  It’s a tight, emotional, military-themed graphic novel that I haven’t been able to put down!  Hear all about it on the show.

As always, hit up our Podbean Page, or check it out via the embedded player below.  As always the full blown show notes are after the jump.
