Okay this is getting silly. Next time Hasbro does this, I’m going to give them 24 hours before typing this up so I don’t have to write three separate articles for each series of better images that we get! Gah.
I’ve seen the images. I would imagine pretty much everyone has. I’m certain at this point things are pretty doom and gloom. Five points of articulation, reused vehicles, deth of teh line, etc…
While I’m staying far away from the whole “Deth of teh line!” crowed, I will admit up front I am a bit punched in the gut by the restricted articulation on the vehicle drivers. I won’t say it’s completely unexpected. Anyone who has been listening to the Whats on Joe Mind podcast should remember that I’ve been talking about a scaled back movie line and about the potential for reduced articulation for months now. So hopefully folks who have been listening to that aren’t taken so far aback. But I will admit, even though I’ve been saying it, I can’t help but feel a bit of wind knocked out the sails. There’s just something about seeing that familiar visage of Snake Eyes with only 5 points of articulation that just doesn’t look… right. That’s NOT how he’s supposed to look.
That being said, I’m not writing this off as doom and gloom. Aside from the vehicle drivers there are plenty of things to cheer about, and I’m going to bore the hell out of everyone by regurgitating them all right here. Not only that, but I’m going crazy. I’m going figure by figure and vehicle by vehicle. No, I do not have a life. Let’s do this.

Toy Fair has long been advertised as the place to go to see new and upcoming toys for the year! Well in a very odd and stunning move, Hasbro has revealed a huge chunk of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation toyline in low res thumbnail type images on their G.I. Joe toy website, 10 days prior to the annual event in New York City.
A head scratching move, to be sure, but it allows me some more analysis for these toys with some hypothesis about what Hasbro is doing and what we might expect to see or hear in New York.
So what does this run of figures, vehicles, and other items mean for us in 2012? How does “Jinx as SDCC Exclusive” impact mainstream movie release? Click the Read the Rest of this Entry link below to read on!

As part of the Geekcast Radio Network, we were asked to come up with some “Top 5” and “Bottom 5” G.I. Joe items for 2011 as part of a yearly recap episode. Well, the awesome guys at GCRN have allowed us to post our portion of the recap show as a stand alone on our Podbean Page. Not a real long show, but a nice little bonus for folks who are feeding for more WOJM. Hit up the embedded player below as well:
Along with this “lost episode”, Gary, the editing king, has also been posting some great outtakes on the
Facebook page. These are things that were cut from final recorded episodes. Check out the
What’s on Joe Mind Facebook page for full details.
Good stuff here and kudos to Gary for getting it all together and posted! Keep checking our Facebook page to see what other little gems get lost on the cutting room floor.

One of the reasons why G.I. Joe: Renegades was such a great show is likely due to the exceptional writing team in charge of the show. Star Wars: The Clone Wars veteran Henry Gilroy was at the top of the writers’ food chain alongside Marty Isenberg, who was one of the brainchildren behind Transformers: Animated.
In a recent episode of Star Wars themed podcast The Forcecast, Henry Gilroy came on to talk a bit about his work on Clone Wars, and also revealed some juice about the potential future of G.I. Joe: Renegades. Hint – there isn’t one. 🙁
You can check out the episode right here, and the Renegades talk is very brief (around the 58 minute and 54 second mark). I’ve also transcribed the information below…with a healthy dose of paraphrasing, so definitely listen to the episode for the accurate phrasing.
The Forcecast: Season 2 of Renegades, when are we going to see it?
Henry Gilroy: Actually, you’re probably not going to… if you watch Renegades and saw the new trailer for G.I. Joe 2, it’s basically the same plot. The next incarnation of G.I. Joe animated is probably going to have something to do with the movie.
The Forcecast: I’m really disappointed about G.I. Joe…
Henry Gilroy: There’s been talk of maybe… doing something to tie up the series, which may or may not happen…we can always hold out hope for Renegades.
So, really kind of confirmed what we’d already suspected. G.I. Joe: Renegades isn’t on so much of a “hiatus” as a “retirement” with the next iteration (if there is one) focusing more on the Retaliation universe.
Gilroy also mentions that he is leaving Hasbro to work on another project..a Hulk animated series with Paul Dini. So it sounds like whatever next version of G.I. Joe animation there might be, he won’t be involved, which is a shame.
Thanks very much to Paul Timmermans who left the info on the What’s on Joe Mind Facebook page.
by generalsjoes | Jan 22, 2012 | Film, G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe: Renegades
I know the design for the Black Dragon helicopter is based on the concept for the V-22 Osprey, which was a dual-propellor aircraft being conceived for the American military that never really evolved to the point that the government anticipated. But I was under the impression that while it was inspired by the Osprey, it wasn’t necessarily a direct representation of it.
Well, I was cruising Super Hero Hype looking at the new Avengers action figures, which are totally going to help contribute to my bankruptcy in 2012, and I saw this image for the upcoming Resident Evil: Retribution:
Now is it just me, or are those pretty much clones of the Black Dragon helicopters? Those slanted vents on the wings (which don’t seem to be present on the Osprey) and the sleek, aerodynamic designs…not to mention the bombs coming from the under-wing containers, just like the Cobra aircraft.
Probably a coincidence, but a pretty damn cool one, I think. I always love seeing these cross-platform connections. Check out more about Resident Evil: Retribution over on Super Hero Hype.
by generalsjoes | Jan 21, 2012 | G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe: Renegades, G.I. Joe: Resolute
My only regret about the following article is that Monte didn’t write it for me. 😀
In all seriousness, ever since G.I. Joe: Renegades appeared comparisons have been rampant (unfair as they might be) between Resolute and Renegades. Which was better? Really thinking about it, the comparisons are ridiculous, considering they were both designed for completely different purposes and entirely separate audiences…how can an episodic animated series written for 7 – 10 year olds be realistically compared to a high-octane 60 minute superficial feature designed to resonate with the violent tendencies of 30-something year old fanboys? Seems like a ludicrous comparison to make, but many folks made it, just the same.
Think about it for a minute…would you expect the syndicated Robocop cartoon to match the visceral brutality of the R-rated film? Of course not. It’s for kids. I think the same can be said of Renegades.
Still, the comparisons are out there, and they will be made endlessly, so I might as well put some focus on one of the better thought out ones I’ve read. Monte Williams, big friend of GeneralsJoes has decided to have his say, and it’s a fantastic one. Eloquent as always, well research and well written, you can check it out on Autobotic Asphyxiation.
It certainly doesn’t hurt that I agree with him. Another nice one, Monte, thanks for sharing.
