Larry Hama has always established that G.I. Joe isn’t necessarily about war, action, ninjas, or gun battle…at its core, it is about the characters. It is the personality of the characters that keeps them alive and keeps them viable throughout the years.
I would maintain that this remains true in Hollywood as well, and that the translation of these characters into film is equally important for the movie to remain timeless. After all, we don’t all remember the fantastic Aliens movie because of the gun fights, right? We remember it because of characters like Hicks, Ripley, and Hudson. THEY are what made that film, not splattering acid blood all over the place.
So now that things are starting to take shape around G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which characters am I most looking forward to seeing in action? Let’s break it down after the jump:
I’ve showcased the great guys over at TS118 before, and they really pulled out all of the stops for the premiere of G.I. Joe: Retaliation! They were able to coordinate with a local movie distributor to feature their unique and excellently crafted diorama sets at various locations in conjunction with the movie premiere.
Imagine going into your local theater to see G.I. Joe: Retaliation and seeing a full blown G.I. Joe battle scene right in the lobby. Pretty cool stuff right there.

Synopsis
In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. The film stars D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, Ray Stevenson, Channing Tatum with Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson. Directed Jon M. Chu, and produced by Lorenzo di Bonventura and Brian Goldner, from screenplay by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick based on Hasbro’s G.I Joe characters.
Another character feature has been uploaded to Paramount’s International YouTube Channel, this time it’s Roadblock. We’ve seen some Roadblock ones before, but this features some behind the scenes footage and some snippets of new footage.
It is with yet another debt of gratitude that I thank Russ Sheath for once again agreeing to represent GeneralsJoes as he makes the rounds with Paramount and getting some fantastic interviews on the plate for G.I. Joe fans everywhere. Russ is a contributor for Aint It Cool News, and the interview will be mirrored over there as well, but he has ever so graciously allowed GeneralsJoes a whack at it as well. Just like with Director Jon Chu this weekend as well as the London Red Carpet Premiere, Russ (and Dave) from the UK have knocked the ball out of the park.
I cannot thank him or them enough. As an added bonus, this interview is terrific! Rheese and Wernick go into full G.I. Joe geek mode in some places, and add some really key insight into the backgrounds of the characters and the history behind this great franchise.

I think it says a lot about G.I. Joe as a brand and a property when they take what was arguably their strongest female character and kill her off, but are then able to find another equally strong female character to take the lead in the G.I. Joe: Retaliation sequel. Twitziller recognizes the critical importance of Lady Jaye in the realm of G.I. Joe as well in today’s update.
#4:
Various clips, trailers, and TV spots have shown a Lady Jaye who is “take no prisoners” and “take no gruff” from anyone. She is able to let all the men’s comments slide off her back, and lets her actions on the field of battle prove her worth to the G.I. Joe team.
As the apparent weapons expert and marksman of the G.I. Joe team, Lady Jaye unleashes all sorts of weapons of destruction through the film and Adrianne Palicki does a great job backing it up. There is no doubt she is a key player in this universe and her introduction in this film has made a big impact.
