Dedicated G.I. JOE Fans To Be Rewarded With Classic Unlockables
Operatives brave enough to take on the infamous COBRA organization in this summer’s G.I. JOE The Rise of Cobra video game will be rewarded for their heroism with a lineup of exclusive unlockable features from EA! Advanced G.I. JOE operatives can get a peek behind the scenes at the game’s production, including unlockable concept art and character renders, while those in the mood for a bit of nostalgia can uncover four of the classic G.I. So begins the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen review over at Latino Review. In fact, by and large, across the web, Transformers 2 has been getting lambasted, raked over the coals, and generally abused by critics and movie fans alike. Funny thing is, none of this has dampened my own enthusiasm to see the film in Imax glory tomorrow night, but it does bring up some questions in my mind, especially considering the box office numbers that Revenge of the Fallen has already tallied.
In spite of a veritable rampage of negative reviews, according to Box Office Mojo, Transformers 2 has already grossed over $120 million dollars internationally, and this is before the first domestic weekend. So, by all accounts, Revenge of the Fallen can’t be considered a good film (of course depending on everyone’s personal opinion of that term), but there is absolutely no doubt that it will be a successful film.
Which, of course, raises the question… what is more important? Would you rather have a good film or a big money maker? Of course in a perfect world, we could have The Dark Knight, which gave us both…but this is my website, dammit, so I’m calling the shots. If you could only have one… big money, or good quality, what would it be?

A few days ago we reported that a group of revealed repaints were being reported as parts of Toys “R” Us 3-Packs, and we now have further elaboration on that. Apparently these are part of some new “Senior Ranking Officer” packs, and an image of these appears over on The Terror Drome. I’ve also mirrored the image below.

Bad Sociologist over on HissTank.com reports that his Toys “R” Us received a nice assortment of stock for the upcoming Rise of COBRA toyline, but when he scanned the UPC, it reported that the items couldn’t be sold until July 4th. We’d previously heard dates of July 11th and July 6th, and other Toys “R” Us assortments had reported July 10th, so at this point, it’s somewhat tough to tell exactly what the solid street date is. I personally think a July 4th date would be great as a tie in to Independence Day… whatever the actual date is, early July is just around the corner, so buckle your seat belts!
Another nice tidbit of information that was provided in that thread on HissTank was a rundown of the case assortment. I’ve reposted that below.
Wave 1:
- Destro x2
- Duke: desert x2
- Baroness: pit attack x2
- Viper x2
- Snake-eyes x2
- Storm shadow:full uniform x2
Wave 2:
- Heavy Duty: base camo
- Heavy Duty: reactive armor
- Viper: heavy weapons
- Shipwreck
- Cover Girl
- Deep Six
- Ripcord: reactive armor x2
- Scarlett: camo uniform
- Zartan

Issue #6 for the much maligned main title of IDW’s G.I. Joe arrived on Wednesday, with some promises from Chuck Dixon that things would ramp up and get a bit more involved. Well, I’m happy to say that Chuck was right…let’s see if other sites agree:
My thoughts are below, after the jump…spoilers contained!

With Star Trek, Transformers, and G.I. Joe all getting the summer blockbuster treatment in 2009, Comic Book Resources took some time and spoke with Andy Schmidt, Editor for IDW Publishing on the challenges and opportunities working with three separate licenses that are all receiving a lot of outside attention this year. Mr. Schmidt also takes some time to speak about the Combat Heroes style kid’s book, “We Are G.I. Joe”. You can read the article here, I’ve also reprinted the G.I. Joe related content below.
A very different project, the “G.I. Joe Combat Heroes: We Are G.I. Joe” picture book, is a bit unusual for IDW. The book introduces the heroic Joes and villains of Cobra to young readers, much as “Transformers: I am Optimus Prime” did for the Autobots and Decepticons. “[Writing ‘We Are G.I. Joe’] was a lot of fun. I hope that kids and parents alike enjoy it,” Schmidt said. “And no, there are no rifles or pistols in the whole thing. Swords, throwing stars, crossbows, and tanks, yes, but no pistols or rifles. Look closely and you may see a couple of very intimidating Super-Soakers though!”

A few different images of carded and boxed items from the upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA line have started popping up over at the Terror Drome and HissTank.com. So far we have an Arctic Assault Snake Eyes, a COBRA Para-Viper repaint, and the Dragonhawk XH1 w/ Wild Bill! I’m a bit disappointed that the Para-Viper is a single card, normal release, I was kind of hoping that would fall under an exclusive umbrella somewhere, but we’ll see. They can’t all be winners, I guess. 😉
Don’t get me wrong, the Para-Viper is a very nice looking figure, he just can’t really do anything besides stand there, and I’m not real sure how well his style meshes with the normal movie stuff. Anyway, the images are hosted below.
