Just another G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA SDCC Round Up

You can tell the pace is slowing down just a bit coming out of San Diego, because more folks seem to be taking the time to get some real quality pictures instead of the “dash and crash” click and shoot mentality of the first few days.  As a result, we’ve got some very nice images starting to come out.

First and foremost, JoeBattleLines got their gallery posted, and by and large, it’s excellent.  Check it out here.

Secondly, The Terror Drome also has another run of great images, too.  You can check out their SDCC Galleries here, and see some of the images mirrored below.

Lastly, HissTank has also posted some updated images, which have taken a huge leap in quality.  Some very clear, very nice looking pictures here.  Also some below.

Man, that is some serious mileage out of reused tooling.  Kamakura, Red Fang Ninja, Nano-Viper, and Night Adder are all made from existing tooling (if you can call Resolute Roadblock “existing”).  Sure, some parts are mixed up and there’s new webgear scattered about, but wow.  I hope this isn’t a trend.  We’ve gotten some surprisingly unique figures in the first 3 waves of Rise of COBRA figures, I’m really hoping things don’t end up as creative repaints in the single packs for the rest of the year…considering what we’ve seen for the other parts of Wave 4 I’m starting to wonder.  Every fourth wave has been notoriously repaint-heavy, though, that might just be it.  If that is the case, I applaud them for at least giving us some new blood.

JoeCon is coming up quicker than folks realize…I think we’ll see some really exciting stuff then.

Clearer images of upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA action figures

SNAKE EYES from HissTank reports that he has found some clearer and somewhat larger pictures of four upcoming Rise of COBRA figures.  The figures are as follows, with images below:

  • Desert-Viper
  • Storm Shadow (Arctic Threat)
  • Duke (City Assault)
  • Ripcord (Jungle Assault)

Still not crazy about Storm Shadow…the larger pictures make me feel a lot better about Duke and Ripcord, though.  I really like the camo pattern on Duke’s legs and Ripcord just looks awesome all around.  Check ’em out for yourself:

I’ve been combing the ‘net, and TNI appears to have some pictures of new items on display that are quite a bit clearer and more defined than I’ve seen.  Please check out their terrific G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA gallery right here.  I’ve mirrored some of the images below, but there are lots more good ones at their site directly.

I LOVE that Night Adder.  Love him.

Shout! Factory Complete Series Review – Day 5!

Today rounds off the 5-day review extraveganza for the Shout! Factory Complete Series DVD set.  Yes, it’s pricey, but in my opinion, from the presentation to the content, this is one set you don’t want to miss.  Hit up this link for today’s review, or check out all of the various daily review links below.

G.I. Joe: The Movie confirmed for release by Shout! in 2010?

I’ve spoken about the blank slot in the 17-disc Complete Series set during my review, but wasn’t really sure if it was just an Easter Egg, a mistake, or something there was plans for in the future.  Well, a friend of GeneralsJoes stopped by the Shout! Factory booth in San Diego yesterday, and we’re happy to report that Shout! confirmed they are working to release G.I. Joe: The Movie as a standalone DVD in 2010!

They’ve also thought long and hard about getting the DiC series on DVD as well, and it’s something that they would love to be able to do.

USA Weekend interviews Dennis Quaid about G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA

As G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA gets closer and closer to release, the stars are making the rounds, and Dennis Quaid took some time to speak with USA Weekend.  You can read the article here.

Honestly, at this point, there isn’t a whole lot of new information, but it’s always cool to get a peek behind the curtain at the guy who’s going to bring one of our favorite characters to life.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA Sequel already in the works?

It seems ridiculous to even assume that a sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA is already in the planning stages before the first film has even hit the street…yet, there are articles across the ‘net (on IGN, Cinemaspy, or even the Brisbane Times for example) that seem to indicate a sequel is almost a done deal.  Normally this kind of talk makes me roll my eyes at least a bit.

However, this time around, the talk is coming from the production staff. In fact, Stephen Sommers himself said in Australia that they were beginning production of a sequel, and from what I’m hearing, San Diego ComicCon is abuzz with rumors that production might even already be under way.

Ultimately, this could be a big to do about nothing, but in the world of Hollywood, one can never tell…I think all we can do is sit back and hope the dollars start flying on August 7th so the franchise can continue to expand, and we can get a bigger focus on COBRA like we all want.  I know there are aspects of this origin story that have a lot of folks scratching their heads, but I really think given some more material to work with, we can get a really interesting new universe crafted.

And if nothing else, every couple of years we get a whole buttload of new toys out of it.  Win-win.
