Fantastic Images of Display Cases with G.I. Joe Convention Exclusives

Never fails…whenever Fred from JBL shows up at the G.I. Joe Convention, you can be assured that some awesome pictures will be coming forward.  On the JBL Convention Coverage page, Fred has posted a short series of images of the Convention Exclusives, and the pics are pretty much the highest quality I’ve seen yet.

He’ll be hitting the display floor today at 2:00pm as well, so expect big things!  Check out the images mirrored below.

Convention Exclusive pricing structure and some more images

spiderpumpkin from HissTank has come through again with some pictures and details of the convention exclusive items that are being purchased as I type.  This appears to be the lowdown (and what an expensive lowdown it is!):

  • Blades w/ SAF Gyrocopter: $28.00
  • JUMP 2-Pack w/ Starduster and Manleh: $45.00
  • 3-Pack w/ Sgt. Shimik, Sgt. Redmack, and Sgt. Topson: $65.00
  • 12″ Crimson Guard: $50.00
  • Crimson Command Copter: $30.00
  • Joe or COBRA Weapon Set: $8.00 (still no inclination on exactly what this contains)

Actually, in all honesty, the prices aren’t terrible…well, except that 12″ Crimson Guard.  Yikes.  I can appreciate the production costs and the limited run, but that’s far and away the most expensive parachute figure ever.  It’s a beautiful figure, but you’re definitely paying for it.  The other items are about standard for Convention stuff…

spiderpumpkin also posts some great pics of the filecards and stuff at his photo gallery, which I have mirrored below.

2009 G.I. Joe Convention Coverage Schedule – Roundtables, etc…

So, over the next day or two, various Hasbro round tables will go on giving us some cool information and a peek into what’s to come for 2010.  The entire Convention schedule is mirrored below:

no images were found

So, the dates and times of note are as follows.  Keep in mind this is all Central Time:

  • Thursday, 7:00pm: Package Pick-Up and Exclusive item purchases.  Expect pictures and details to come flooding in as Convention attendees pick up their exclusive packages and get first hand looks at all of the goodies that the GIJCC is offering this year at their dealer table.  This has basically already occurred tonight.
  • Friday, 12:00 – 12:50: G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA Panel.  I would assume this covers the film, the film’s success, and may involve some Q & A with folks involved in the production.
  • Friday, 1:00 – 1:50: Hasbro Marketing for G.I. Joe 2010 and beyond.  This is the panel everyone is waiting for, where Hasbro reveals some of their 2010 product plans and unveils some of the toys to come for next year or beyond.
  • Friday, 2:00pm Sales/Display floor opens to registered members for a sneak preview.  Folks on the ground will report in first hand on what’s in the display cases and what sorts of cool stuff the rest of us are all missing out on!
  • Saturday, 9:00am – 9:50: GIJCC Newsletter and Comic Q & A.  This is something new for this year where I guess folks can ask questions about newsletter production and interact with the team behind it.
  • Saturday, 11:00am – 11:50: Another G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA panel
  • Saturday, 12:00pm – 12:50: IDW Panel featuring a hint of things to come as well as a Q & A session with the IDW folks behind the comics.
  • Saturday, 3:00pm – 3:50: GIJCC Roundtable, discussion with the guys behind the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club who talk about potential future projects (hopefully the Dr. Venom/Adventure Team is on top of their list…  :shifty: ) and answer questions about production of the convention and convention exclusives every year.
  • Saturday, 4:00pm – 4:50: Electronic Arts discussion about the Rise of COBRA game, with a Q & A session about the game production and what goes into it.

Of course, there is much, MUCH more, visible at the schedule images above, but those are the highlights, and probably the discussions that I’ll be focused on covering.  There will  be a TON of stuff going on all weekend, should be a fun, busy time.  Enjoy!

IDW Helix and G.I. Joe #8 Reviews around the web…

I know it’s been a little while since I recapped some of the various reviews for IDW’s latest releases, but considering that I was all pumped up for the Helix one-shot and also considering the main G.I. Joe title is starting to pick up some steam, I figure I can pop some links out there to check these reviews out.  My own personal take?

Helix was a really, REALLY fun read.  The pacing was great, the art was honestly fantastic.  I was actually pretty surprised, the tone of the story was very dark and serious, and  Helix wasn’t really the showcase I expected.  She did a lot more undercover work and a lot less martial arts stuff than I expected, and for an issue that was supposed to dive into her background, it didn’t do a whole lot in that regard.  I was also a bit confused as to where in continuity this particular story is supposed to take place.  Duke and Hawk were obviously in their IDW style, but they already know all about COBRA (which they don’t yet in the main series) and I was a bit perplexed about that.  It was still a great read, though.

The main G.I. Joe title is picking up some steam as well, as we get a look at Flint, and see some COBRA Troopers for the first time.  The story moves along at a much brisker pace than the previous 6 issue arc, and I’m really liking the whole Snake Eyes/Scarlett/Mainframe angle with COBRA as an urban myth.  That is an awesome angle.  Chuck Dixon really hit on something interesting there.  But, if you want to read some other thoughts, check out the links below:

2009 G.I. Joe Convention Souvenier Images online now!

Mere hours after the news of which figures were being included in the souvenier set at the 2009 G.I. Joe International Collectors’ Convention in Kansas City, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club has posted images of the souvenier sets that are being sold at the convention tonight!  These figures and vehicles take a decidedly international theme, using some very cool tooling parts and some really neat camouflage schemes.  Once again, the line up is as follows:

  • JUMP 2-Pack w/ Starduster and Manleh (LE 650)
  • 3-Pack of Sgt. Shimick, Sgt. Topson, and Sgt. Redmack (LE 650)
  • Crimson Command Copter (LE 400)
  • Gyro-Copter w/ Blades (LE 500)
  • G.I. Joe and COBRA Weapons Set (LE 1,000)
  • 12″ Crimson Guard Parachute figure

Once again, these go on sale when you pick up the full Crimson Strike Team or Eight Legs of Danger set at the Convention tonight.  You can see the images here, or I’ve also mirrored them below.

First report from JoeCon – Possible Convention Exclusives??

GeneralsJoes and JoeBattleLines just got the first intel straight from Kansas City as JoeCon is getting underway!  JBL Staffmember madmac41 called in to report that the attendee exclusive vehicle is a repaint COBRA FANG!

Done up in silver and sort of in “Argentina” colors to match Glenda/Pilot Scarlett.  A free comic also came with the Convention set, and the comic features the following characters (that are possibly convention exclusives):

As you can see by following those links above, each of these figures could easily be cobbled together with existing Anniversary parts.  Other characters appearing in the comic were Glenda, Starduster, and someone in a “red beret” who may or may not be tied to Action Force.  Keep in mind, this is a comic with art and is not any kind of definitive list about what figures are coming as Convention exclusives tomorrow, but it’s a nice start!

A big thanks to Scott from JoeBattleLines for the info!

Resolute Arctic Cobra Commander figure revealed!

Shin Densetsu over at HissTank.com reports on an image that finally reveals the Arctic COBRA Commander rumored to be released in comic pack form earlier this year.  Obviously based on his Resolute look, it’s a pretty neat version of the COBRA leader, and a nice peek at a figure that may never see the light of day.  Check the image mirrored below.

JoeDeclassified returns to the G.I. Joe Convention in 2009!

The Joe Declassified Project will return to the G.I.Joe Collector’s Convention this year, and arriving back with a bang.  For those that were able to visit us last year, you were privy to see some of the the coolest and most revealing Joe items of your collecting career.  This year, we plan to return with more of the same, as well as another issue of our free newsletter!  This one will be printed in full color, and come in at over 20 pages of Joe material, including a huge behind the scenes peek at DDP’s WWIII storyline by Mike O’Sullivan himself. Check out last year’s newsletter here. If you love this hobby like we do, then come on by our booth!

The Joe Declassified Mission Statement:

We feel that it is high time that we, the fans of G.I.Joe, take up the responsibility of ensuring the growth of our hobby – both in wealth of knowledge, and broadening the fan base to welcome everyone into the overarching community.  As collectors, we have all spoken of, or heard others speak of things they wish to see in the community; secrets to be revealed, collecting tools made available, and so forth. We aim to go out of our way to ensure these voices are heard, and these desires become reality. We wish to work with other existing groups that are fan owned, operated and oriented, and seek to put aside those here solely to profit at the collectors expense; those who hold no love for our hobby.

We are putting our money where our mouth is. None of our endeavors will be for profit. A stronger, collaborative community is reward enough. Our newsletter was, and will continue to be, free to the collector. Our website aims to aid fellow collectors in every way possible, while stripping away old trappings that have discouraged us all in the past. With you, we will forge a stronger and united community based on sharing, inclusion and assistance. Now is the time for us to all come together and lead G.I.JOE back to being the number one toy brand is has been various times in the past. With you, we can make this happen. The future is yours.

Thank you for making this hobby better,

Sam “Nomad” Damon
