It seems only right as news about G.I. Joe: Renegades finally starts to ramp up that I wrap up the reviews for the first onslaught of G.I. Joe: The Pursuit of Cobra toys. Judging by all reports, the next run of PoC items should hit retail around the holiday season, so this may close that door, at least for a couple of months. Hopefully G.I. Joe: Renegades will help fill that void, at least from an animation perspective.
The last two items on my review list have been posted to the Pursuit of Cobra Review Page:
Astute viewers would notice on the TVGuide.com listings that following G.I. Joe: Renegades apparent debut on October 10th, there’s a half hour special entitled “The Hub Sneak Peek”. Previously details were unknown, but now, thanks to Zap2It’s somewhat expanded coverage, we now know that the Hub “Sneak Peek” features a look into G.I. Joe: Renegades as well as Transformers: Prime.
So since there is a “Sneak Peek” scheduled, does that somehow mean thee 5:00pm listing for Renegades is inaccurate? Time will tell, I suppose.
With the SuperPages I’d done in the past, it was usually for a very finite event. A movie release, a DVD release, a specific toyline theme, etc.. well, all indications are that G.I. Joe: Renegades may hopefully morph into something more (if all goes well). It could be the television show, the toyline, dare we hope a video game, etc…
So to celebrate G.I. Joe’s return to network television, I’ve gone a little overboard with the latest SuperPage. It can be found right here.
Expect news reports, character bios, video clips, episode guides, synopsis, reviews, etc… the whole nine yards. If I enjoy G.I. Joe: Renegades half as much as I think I will, there will be a ton of content there. No fear, though, any specific updates will be announced on GeneralsJoes as well, all news reports will be mirrored here, and the main GeneralsJoes site will still get all of the attention it deserves. It’s just that as I was working through the layout and design ideas for a Renegades SuperPage, I realized there was a lot more than would fit in one simple page. However, I fully intend to not let it become unwieldy. The beauty of the SuperPages has been the quick and easy access to information, and I strongly desire to keep that intact.
Anyway. Check it out. Let me know your thoughts. Is it too much? Is there other stuff you’d like to see? It’s a continued work in progress. Hopefully as Hubworld.com undergoes its own transformation today, or shortly after, the Renegades SuperPage will continue its growth as well.
As we posted yesterday, online TV Listings are starting to reveal that G.I. Joe: Renegades will premier October 10th at 5:00pm Eastern Time. Unfortunately, TVGuide.com didn’t reveal much in the way of episode details, however Zap2It.com does. It ain’t much, but it’s something. According to their online listings, the following is a brief synopsis of Episode 1:
“A group of off-duty soldiers are recruited to escort an Army Intelligence Officer to investigate a Cobra Industries facility and get more than they bargained for.”
See, I told you it wasn’t much. I’m sure as the day goes on today, more will be revealed. Bring it on!
While this is certainly subject to change, TVGuide.com lists upcoming shows 2 weeks in advance, and this morning has posted the schedule for October 10, 2010. Looking at the listings for Discovery Kids reveals that at 5:00pm, according to TV Guide, G.I. Joe: Renegades will launch!
While no episode synopsis is available, you can see the listings for yourself in the mirrored images below:

This coincides, most likely, with the launch of new content from Hubworld.com tomorrow. Since TV listings generally come through a couple of weeks in advance, it makes sense for Hubworld to start taking a more active role tomorrow.
Everyone set those DVR’s!
As I mentioned in a previous post, Transformers.com received an advertisement stating that an online Flash-based game was coming soon, and I wondered aloud if we should expect the same for Renegades. Well, turns out, the answer is yes. While the ad seems to have come and gone, at one point, according to BCYOJOE on HissTank.com there was an advertisement posted. I’m having a hard time finding it myself.
Check out the image proof below, or take a look at GIJoe.com to see if the ad comes back.
As I mentioned in the earlier post as well, the game will likely be available September 27th when Hubworld.com undergoes the planned content overhaul.
One of the notes that got kind of lost in the shuffle during the Hub Media Event webcast a short while ago is that HubWorld.com is supposedly undergoing a major content overhaul and “relaunch” on September 27th, which just happens to be Monday.
What this means for G.I. Joe: Renegades is presently unknown, but considering Renegades is one of the Hub’s flagship shows, I would think it would mean a potential for some added content coming early next week. Hopefully some better, more finished art, or some more media.
Coinciding with this upcoming event, TFW2005 reports that Transformers.com has an advertisement up for an upcoming Flash-based game called “Tower Defense”, so it would appear things are gearing up for a little media blitz just prior to The Hub’s official launch on October 10th.
Fingers crossed…
While no actual new art has been shared recently for the upcoming G.I. Joe: Renegades series, thanks to DeviantArt, we do know a few more of the artists who are working on the series. Check out the links to the profiles below to see who some of these artists are and what they’ve worked on in the past. One of the cooler names on the list is Dusty Abell, who should be very familiar to Joe fans as the guy who had some input into the vehicle designs for G.I. Joe: Resolute!
The first artist on the list, “jones-z-kitty” has some interesting words about the Renegades production:
“i’m DEFINITELY having fun on GIJOE:RENEGADES right now, and i’m having a blast working with and , who both take me to school everyday, its very inspiring! plus…we are using a little bit of freelance…(we had some really big episodes and we needed a bit of help)…so were really lucky we’ve been able to get some help from , , and ! everyone is doing an awesome job!…….but i do sometimes miss the fun and whimsy of drawing BRAVE AND THE BOLD!
that being said…i’m learning TONS working on GIJOE:RENEGADES and i really HOPE that HASBRO is cool with us posting some stuff at the end of the year once the show premieres!”
Love the sounds of the “really big episodes”! And as with many of the folks we’ve seen involved with Renegades, there are some great pedigrees on some of these names. Check out the profiles below to see what we’ve got to work with.
With thanks to SNAKE EYES from HissTank.com, we know that Diamond Publications has a listing for G.I. Joe: The Pursuit of Cobra Wave 3, and Diamond has a release date for Wave 3 listed for December 29th.
It’s been widely believed that Wave 3 (which is technically “Wave 1” for 2011) would hit retail prior to the end of the year, though this seems a bit close to 2011. It should be noted, though, that many times these things hit brick and mortar retail before Diamond’s listed release date.
To see the full rundown of Wave 3, check out my Pursuit of Cobra SuperPage.
So, is anyone getting tired of me posting information about Avengers? I hope not, because I’m going to keep doing it. Feel free to skip by if you’re not interested. I’m extremely fired up to see this cartoon, so I fully intend on posting about the videos as they’re uploaded.
The latest five-minute short focuses on The Hulk… DisneyXD.com is the first place to post it (which doesn’t allow embedding for some weird reason). It’s on the same video page that the Iron Man one was posted yesterday.
Along with that, Marvel.com has also begun posting their own content, including very short snippets of the origins of the Avengers. First two are Thor and Captain America. Thor
Along with those, Marvel.com also has hosted the Iron Man Micro-Episode, so it’s embeddable now! Iron Man Micro-Episode
This cartoon really looks great. It has a very “realistic” feel to it. Sure, the animated style is the typical distorted look, but the dialog is very mature and natural, the action is very well choreographed…it really rocks. October 20th…I’ve marked my calendar!
