JoeDeClassified Spec Ops Podcast Episode 2 is Online

The awesome SpecOps Podcast has just kicked off, and is already making some serious waves.  The first episode slammed the fandom with the unproduced Cobra Island playset and some fantastic concept art behind it, and Episode 2 certainly is not letting up.

With a very well informed and opinionated crew, they tackle the whole Toy Fair 2012 fall out and discuss the controversy over articulation and the direction of the toyline.  But that’s not all!  Fresh from a stint in Afghanistan, JoeDeClassified owner Sam “Nomad” Damon stops by and drops some knowledge on us about the Wave 5 Night Viper and Crimson Guard!

Project: ARAH Updates from SlayerCon 2

Anyone who doubts the validity of the fabled o-ring format, may want to prepare to change their minds. Straight from SlayerCon 2 in Baltimore,
Maryland, the guys behind the Project: ARAH subscription service have been sending along picture updates of the figures that will be available
from the service including Pythona and the snipers!

These look awesome.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of how the modern style figures have evolved to this point, but there is something about totally new and totally
different o-ring figures that gets me completely geeked out in a way that the modern figures don’t. And these figures are truly geek worthy.

Check out some mirrored images below, but also make sure you’re checking the Old School Creations and Project: ARAH Facebook page for more
updates. Wow, I cannot freaking WAIT to get these in hand! I’ll be buying paints and getting ready to paint ’em up very shortly.

Impressive.

Don’t forget, for the latest and greatest Project: ARAH information, keep your eyes on their forums.

Excellent interview of IDW Editor John Barber on ComixVerse.com

The folks behind The Comix Verse are friends of the site and are making a push to bring their network of sites into the mainstream…doing a great job of it, too.  They’ve posted a very good and enlightening interview with IDW editor John Barber, who is one of the guys editing the G.I. Joe stable of titles, and also the writer of the impressive G.I. Joe: Retaliation Prequel limited series.  He lets loose some insight about what might be coming after Cobra Command, and the interview even showcases some nice preview pages!

Check it out right here.  Good stuff, and thanks to The Terror Drome for the heads up.

What’s on Joe Mind Episode 44 is Online!

G.I. Joe: Retaliation Ninja Showdown Snake Eyes – FIRST LOOK!

Well, here it is…the last of my “First Looks”…  I am officially sad.  My experience with this sampling of figures has been very enlightening, and I really want to thank Gyre Vipre for giving me the opportunity to reveal these figures.

There’s been a lot of great stuff (Red Ninja, Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, most of Roadblock) but also some concerns as well, and I think this is likely indicative of the Retaliation line itself.  Lots of ninja elements, but some very cool modern military elements, too, and I look forward to both.

Bring on May, and bring on a full blown G.I. Joe: Retaliation toy onslaught.  I’m ready!

Until then, check out my G.I. Joe: Retaliation Review Page, or just click the link below for the last installment in my weeklong “First Look” segment.  I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have.

SlayerCon 2012 this weekend in Maryland!

Fans of Slayer Design Studios are familiar with the annual SlayerCon, and I’m happy to report the second annual convention for customizers and folks interested in the casting and production process is happening this weekend.

Located at the Ramada Inn just outside Baltimore, Maryland, SlayerCon will feature a number of talented customizers as well as the guys behind Project-ARAH.com.  In fact, the first figures from Project-ARAH.com (including Pythona!) will be at SlayerCon live and in person.

The show is March 3rd – 4th, and you can check out the SDS Forums to get more information.

Speaking of Slayer Design Studios, folks who are curious about the casting process will want to check out a great Fighting 118th interview of Slayer Dave, the guy behind the curtain of Slayer Design Studios.  I have had several direct interactions with Dave, and he is a great guy who cares deeply about his product and loves coming up with new ideas and concepts for product to interact with our favorite toyline.  Check out links to the interview below.

Thanks to Monkeywrench and The Terror Drome for the info.

I’ve talked quite a bit about the UK Convention Roll Out Roll Call III on the What’s on Joe Mind podcast (in fact, this week’s episode will feature an interview with David Tree, who is the mastermind behind the convention), but I haven’t mentioned it here on the site lately.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation Dojo Battle Red Ninja & Storm Shadow FIRST LOOK

The hits just keep on coming this week, again thanks to Gyre Viper who has entrusted me to cover these items with my usual enthusiasm.

Nobody tell him that I’m taking a screwdriver to these things, too!  If you follow me on Twitter, you saw last night that I swapped out one of the lower legs on Roadblock with one from Night Adder in order to give him some more articulation, and the end result was a success!  The lower leg fits well and is the right height…obviously some color matching would have to be done.  One interesting thing, though, is that even with the double knee, the range of motion isn’t much increased.  You can see the TwitPic images below.

Another update from Fun Publications on recent security issues

In what is becoming an almost daily occurrence, Brian Savage from Fun Publications has sent out another notification email to members of both the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club and the Transformers Collectors’ Club, strongly encouraging everyone to not only cancel your credit cards, but also consider changing any common usernames or passwords you were using on their website or forums.

I cannot stress enough the importance of following this advice.  The full text of the email is below.

As we continue to work on our systems, you will see some of our services go offline and then come back, so please be patient as we preserve data and clone servers and websites.

We are also taking this opportunity to remove all non-essential services from our ecomerce server. So in the short term in the next day or so, the club forums will be discontinued. It will be several days until we are ready to bring them back under an entierly new piece of software. I know alot of you have been asking for this so, we have decided to replace several of our systems with new packages. This means that you will not have access to the forum for a while at all. We do plan to make the old forum viewable (no posts) in the future.

Since we do not know exactly what data was taken, we are recommending that if your have used common logins or passwords with our system and any other system that your change your passwords in those systems immidiately (especially any financial sysstems)! We will be resetting all of the passwords in our system very soon. Please don’t delay in changing your passwords in other locations

In addition, we have found a few recent aticles concerning security issues with other vendors. If you use these services, these issues could possibly impact you. Please read the attached links:

GeneralsJoes Reviews IDW’s G.I. Joe: RAH Annual for 2012

The idea of a “Yearbook” or “Annual” seems like almost a thing of the past, especially in the G.I. Joe world, and I was excited to hear that IDW was reviving the concept for the Real American Hero title.  Many of those old school yearbooks were some of the coolest stories going on in the Marvel days.

IDW really dives head long into the whole vintage concept here as well, as they comb the historical archives and pull out some really great art talents to bring this story to life.

The end results?  Well, you’re just going to have to click the Read the Rest of this Story link below for the full details.
