G.I. Joe: Battleground Peril in The Pit Event is on now!

The latest PVP event ended a few days ago, so now it’s time for the next big surge!  Cobra has discovered the location of The Pit, and it’s up to a few of the Original 13 Joes to stop them.

Flash, Grunt, and Zap team up to try and battle back Destro and Crimson Guard Commander.

As always the artwork on these new cards are fantastic, not just in execution, but in concept.  I’m in love with the Crimson Guard Commander, the fact that they used the GIJCC Iron Grenadier Destro, and that the Epic version of Flash is his Rise of Cobra version?  Solid GOLD.

Check out some screen shots below.

Another cool looking toy product on Kickstarter – BMOG Attacks!

While it’s not strictly G.I. Joe related a fun looking new toy concept has emerged on Kickstarter, and in fairness has been up there for a while, and it has some very cool ties to another Hasbro brand, Transformers.

Some fine collector and designer folks from the online community have created a proof of concept for a new idea called Bio-Mechanical Ordnance Gestalts, or BMOG.  These really cool looking collectible toys are essentially weapons that can combine together into creatures in many different fascinating ways.  The really cool thing is that the peg system is based around a 5mm standard that is compatible with many old school toys including Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and even Starcom.

They are really close to their funding limit, only needing less than $3,000 more, and just figured I’d spread the word.  Some of the folks behind it have also worked alongside Fun Publications and the G.I. Joe/Transformers Collectors Club.

Anyway, check out the project right here, it looks like a lot of fun, and could use some of our support to push it through to the finish line.  The way the retail toy world works we need to support these independent projects any chance we can get!

Tomorrow caps of Fred Van Lente’s run on the G.I. Joe comic for IDW Publishing, and he goes out in style with some awesome Sigma 6 homage work in the first group of pages.  Thumbs up from me on that one.

First little tidbits of info from the G.I. Joe 3 script writer

I’d come across this story a number of days ago, but didn’t really report on it, because it didn’t seem like he was revealing any unusual amount of information, but I’ve seen some other outlets grabbing onto it, so figured I’d talk about it a bit, too.

Screen writer Evan Dougherty spoke with Rama’s Screen quite a while ago, and the conversation naturally turned to the progress of the G.I. Joe 3 script.  Dougherty talks about how the cartoon and comic continuity differ, and how for the third film they are looking to pull some more comic influences.  I’m not sure this comes as much of a surprise, considering Jon Chu has already proclaimed his love for the comic (to the point where he put a 10 minute homage to the Silent Issue in the G.I. Joe: Retaliation) and even spoke about diving into the Cobra Island saga for the third film.

From my perspective, that comic-influenced formula is something that Chu already committed to and the nearly $400 million worldwide take from Retaliation would appear to agree with that philosophy.  Still, it is the first little nugget of news from the third G.I. Joe film, so as fans we’re going to grab it and hold it tight.

Thanks to Rama’s Screen and Comic Book Movie for the intel.

G.I. Joe: Renegades and Sigma 6 return to The Hub

Seemingly lost to the sands of time for the past while, arguably the best animated series for the G.I. Joe universe ever, G.I. Joe: Renegades returns to The Hub today!

Anyone who hasn’t bought it on Blu-Ray (why the hell not?!) you can now see it on The Hub again.

I know it got a bad rap, and I know I lavish all sorts of praise on it, but please trust me, that praise is deserved.  If you haven’t seen it yet, just because you’ve listened to folks who didn’t like it, at least give it a shot yourself.  You might be pleasantly surprised.

As for the Sigma 6 animated series?  Yeah, that pretty much blows chunks, but if you like watching train wrecks, you can check that one out, too.  🙂

Thanks to Nick and More for the info.

GeneralsJoes Reviews the Kre-O Arashikage Dojo with HISS Tank

Several online toy reviewers are celebrating the holiday season this year by contributing to the Advent Figure Reviews Calendar.  A new review is being posted every day leading up to Christmas, and I was lucky enough to be able to contribute!

Check out yesterday’s date on the Review calendar to see the review for the G.I. Joe Kre-O Arashikage Dojo set.  It’s a massive review with many more pictures than you probably wanted to see, but it’s there!

After the calendar has run its course, I’ll post the links in the normal places.

Cobra 1st Legion – 2013 Toy Drive to support Oakland Children’s Hospital

For the third year running, G.I. Joe cosplay group Cobra’s 1st Legion is doing a toy drive to support Oakland Children’s Hospital, and they’d love your support! The Toy Drive goes from now until December 21st, and you can drop off new, packaged items, including toys, books, gift cards, and personal hygiene products at the sponsors you see in the poster below. If you live in the Oakland, California area and want to support the Oakland Children’s Hospital, consider contributing to the Cobra 1st Legion Toy Drive!

Unofficial poll – which version of Billy would you want as an action figure?

His name comes up all the time on most fans “most wanted” lists, and unlike a figure like Pythona, you would think Billy could be done relatively easily with many existing parts.  So what’s stopping someone like the G.I. Joe Collectors Club from doing it?

According to the Q & A at last year’s JoeCon (and it seems like every year’s JoeCon) the Club doesn’t know what version of Billy the fans might want.  The Boy Scout assassin version (no thanks)?  Storm Shadow’s ninja apprentice?  A Devils Due-esque version in military gear and long hair?  Where do you stand?

Well, if you’re a member of the G.I. Joe Collectors Club, skinny has put up an unofficial poll to gather some fan consensus about what version of Billy we might want to see.  It’s pretty well known that the Club pays attention to fan requests, especially at their site or on their forums, so you should definitely check out the forums, and place your vote.

You never know, you might help shape FSS 3.0 or 4.0!
