GeneralsJoes Reviews Pursuit of Cobra Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, and Snow Job

Slowly but surely I’m making my way through the first wave of G.I. Joe: Pursuit of Cobra figures.
Already I’ve got Alley-Viper, Duke, and Beachhead posted, and now I’ve added Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, and Snow Job.  I believe that just leaves Cobra Commander and Firefly, and with my HasbroToyShop order shipping this past weekend, I should be able to get those posted as well.
Just because I’m anal retentive, too, I may move the Beachhead review to pre-production and do my own production level review as well.  Hawkwinter did a fantastic job, but I love Beachhead so much I’m itching to get a review in there as well.
Anyway, check out the Pursuit of Cobra Review Page to check out all of the PoC reviews posted to date!

G.I. Joe: Renegades SuperPage Launched

There isn’t a whole lot of new information on it, but I’ve launched the G.I. Joe: Renegades SuperPage.  Basically gathered all of the assorted video and images together, as well as details about the production team, etc…
As launch day gets closer, expect more detailed information and as the series gets underway, I will be launching a full-blown episode guide as well, with reviews, video clips (hopefully) and episode synopsis.
Check it out right here!

Pursuit of Cobra Ice Cutter in hand images from ACToys

My initial reaction to the Ice Cutter was one of “meh”…it didn’t do a whole lot for me, and I’m not big on arctic vehicles anyway, but I’m slowly coming around.  For some reason it has a very vintage feel, I love the deco, and the way the treads move is pretty unique and cool.
The Snow Serpent is… okay, I guess.  Very similar to the Toys “R” Us deco, but with a red parachute pouch instead of blue, he fits in nicely with the Ice Viper Elite’s, that are now unreleased.  Still, the Arctic Threat Destro has some nice red elements as well that ties everything together.  Updated images from ACToys.net also show off some pretty cool detail like the super-poseable cannon and the awesome frosted windshield.  Check out the mirrored images below, and thanks to The Terror Drome for pointing them out!

2011 Convention Exclusive clues start trickling in

So, we now know the date and place for the 2011 G.I. Joe Convention, which of course means that the guessing will start taking place!  Well, over on the GI Joe Collectors’ Club forums, “The Commander” has made our jobs at least a little bit easier.
A single thread has been created over there where they plan on posting information about the exclusive set for the upcoming 2011 convention, and so far they’ve given us two clues, albeit very minor ones.

“1) The set will contain 25A-style figures!
2) We are not revisiting a previous Convention set!”

So begins the game!
I know when they first announced that the o-ring figure convention sets were getting phased out, I was disappointed.  But it’s become quite evident that there is so limited a selection of tooling that really, we would only be shoe-horned into a very limited canvas that the club could work with.  As I see the Pursuit of Cobra surge forward, with Renegades looming in the distance, and think about all of the 25th Anniversary homage stuff that’s still hanging out there, I can think of a wealth of great things the Club can do with the new selection of tooling.
Hell, maybe they’ll even dip their toes into the Resolute pool?  One can only dream.
Regardless, they have so many more options with the new tooling format that I find it hard to complain, and I can’t help but get excited to see what they can do with this new format (when they’re not simply revisiting a set from years past).  Don’t disappoint me, Collectors’ Club!  😉

Even more G.I. Joe: Renegades images to wet your whistle

Or, to fuel your fanboy rage, whichever you prefer.  Honestly the amount of venom, hatred, and downright hostility towards a cartoon that nobody HAS EVEN SEEN YET is amazing to me.  Sure, you can have your opinions about the look, that’s fair game.  But I’m seeing people blindly proclaim that the whole cartoon “sucks” that it’s not “going to last a season” and that it’s going to drive the G.I. Joe brand into a downward spiral.
I mean, come on.  Don’t we all agree that the line art, while rough, looks like nothing compared to the actual animation.  You know, the actual animation that’s going to be shown every time Renegades airs?
Yes, the detail is simplified.  Just as every single animated series has been since Batman in the early 90’s.  Yes, the proportions are exaggerated.  Just like every single animated series has been since Batman in the early 90’s.
How about we give the cartoon a shot, huh?  I heard a lot of Star Wars fans bitching about Clone Wars before it aired.  How many of them are bitching now?  I heard legions of Transfans groaning when promotional images were shown of Transformers: Animated, and it’s now a highly regarded part of Tranformers animated lore.  How about we at least WATCH the thing, and then judge it.  Is that too much to ask?
Just to add more fuel to the fire, here are some more images, which I’m excited about, but apparently I’m in the minority.  These were uncovered by Steevy Maximus over at HissTank.com, who found them within Hubworld.com in the advertising section, and the sneak peeks.  Personally, I can’t wait for October 10th.  And I have a feeling folks who at least give the series a shot will find a lot to enjoy if they can get over rough image designs and follow the animation.  Speaking of the animation, HubWorld.com also has a short video of their upcoming features, Renegades among them.  No new animation, but better quality than what we saw at San Diego ComicCon.  You can check it out at Hubworld’s Main Page.
