Two new guests announced for Canadian JoeCon!

In my rush to post the announcement for the JoeCanuck newsletter last night, I’m ashamed to admit that I didn’t really talk about what was announced within the newsletter, and on the JoeCanuck message board.
Throughout the years at JoeCon, for whatever reason, the Collectors’ Club hasn’t elected to have any voice actors from the Sunbow cartoon available to interact with fans.  They do it for Botcon, but I’m not entirely sure why they don’t do it for JoeCon.
Regardless, the Canadian JoeCon is making up for that by showcasing two of the more famous Sunbow voice actors at their show!  Appearing in Toronto this year will be Zack Hoffman, better known as Zartan, and Mary McDonald-Lewis, who portrayed fan favorite Lady Jaye!  These aren’t bit players in the G.I. Joe universe, they were some of the major characters brought to life in the Sunbow cartoon.
Don’t miss this terrific opportunity to meet some of your childhood idols!  A great move by the folks at the Canadian JoeCon.
Another thing I neglected to focus on… the latest issue of the newsletter also showcases more figure artwork for Convention exclusive figures!  A brand new character named “Hazard” is revealed…so check it out now!

Operation: HISS Webisodes 4 & 5 online now!

Looks like Hasbro is making up for some lost time.  After a few months in limbo, a couple of days ago, we got a short Scarlett spotlight, which was the first Operation: HISS update we’d gotten in quite a while.  Now this morning, it would appear that even though Hasbro hasn’t posted them on their site yet, MonkeybarTV.com has Episodes 4 and 5 posted for the animated series that has gotten quite mixed reviews.
Well, not so mixed.  Pretty much just bad.  But hey!  Look!  It’s Agent Helix!
Seriously, this is obviously made for kids…not much money invested in it…and not a whole lot of emotion either.  But it’s always cool to see Joe characters come to life on screen, and I can’t help but smile seeing Helix running around alongside Snake Eyes in animated form.  Check out the episodes at the links below.  These actually have a nice little helping of action…and yes, it’s quite obvious they’re simply using the video game models to make these, but hey, I guess it’s something, right?

Five-Page preview for G.I. Joe: Origins #16 – Zartan Arrives!

The IDW G.I. Joe world has been a roller coaster, and thankfully things have been on the upward trend as of late.  In that way, I’m glad it took them a little while to get to exploring the character of Zartan, because he is one of the coolest and most central characters of the G.I. Joe mythos, and I’d rather see him done right than done early.
So far we’ve got a short snippet of the G.I. Joe: Origins issue featuring his back story, and so far, so good.  A pretty fast-paced, thrilling introduction so far.

City Strike and Resolute Firefly images

When images from the Pursuit of Cobra were first shown from JoeCon in 2009, while most folks raved about Shadow Tracker and Jungle-Viper, I was secretly drooling over the City Strike Firefly.  That freaky looking helmet, and futuristic design all really appealed to me and it was one of the figures I was most looking forward to.  As the months have gone on, my love for the figure has waned, but just a bit.
I’m not sure if it’s because I’m not quite as fond of the figure, or if all of the other Pursuit of Cobra figures just look so much more bad ass than they did even six months ago, but whatever the reason, Firefly hasn’t retained his “rock star” status, at least from preliminary pictures.  His vest makes him look a bit bulky, I’m not sure exactly what the detail is underneath the vest, and his sewn-in elbow pads are giving me some unfortunate flashbacks to the Rise of Cobra troopers.
But who knows…I don’t have the figure in hand yet, so I should try to reel in my early judgements at least somewhat.  It’s quite possible I’ll be surprised.  I still absolutely love that helmet, love his machine guns, love the suction cup backpack.  Ah, who am I kidding, everyone who reads this page knows I’ll probably gush about it anyway…
Regardless of all that, Gyre-Viper has supplied a healthy helping of Pursuit of Cobra Firefly pictures over at HissTank, and I’m mirroring a bunch below.  As some added bonuses we’ve also got some Resolute Firefly and Zartan thrown in for good measure.  The start of 2010 has been pretty slow from a product standpoint, but damn, once August hits, it’ll be like 2009 all over again.  Only this time the product is all going to be great.  At least from early glimpses…
