G.I. Joe: Retaliation premieres in the Philippines in style!

I’ve showcased the great guys over at TS118 before, and they really pulled out all of the stops for the premiere of G.I. Joe: Retaliation!  They were able to coordinate with a local movie distributor to feature their unique and excellently crafted diorama sets at various locations in conjunction with the movie premiere.

Imagine going into your local theater to see G.I. Joe: Retaliation and seeing a full blown G.I. Joe battle scene right in the lobby.  Pretty cool stuff right there.

Toy Soldier 118 Unleashes diorama insanity at 11th Philippine ToyCon!

Flash over at the TS118 site let me know about this a few days ago, but I was a bit lax in getting the “heads up” posted, but the awesome guys from TS118 are showcasing their incredible diorama and customizing skills at the 11th Philippine ToyCon!  The below info was a heads up from Flash about this event:

“Back in October 2007, TS118 celebrated the 25th anniversary of the GI Joe 3.75 line in Robinson’s Galleria in Manila, Philippines.  5 years after, the group is back STRONG-er than ever with a display area sponsored by Solar UIP (local movie outfit who will show GI Joe Retaliation in the Philippines).  Despite the Joe movie being pushed back to next year, the spirits of the true GI Joe fans from TS118 are not dampened, and instead, we are SPEARHEADING the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the 3.75 GI Joe line by participating and displaying a large collection of GI Joe memorabilia in the 11th Philippine Toy Convention in SM Megamall Megatrade Hall (5th level).

As part of the display, the group will showcase figures from all 3.75” scale versions (ARAH, 25A/30A, Valor Vs Venom, DTC, Spytroops, etc), Sigma 6, the original 12” line (1964-onwards), Sideshow Collectibles, 5 mini-dioramas, and for the centerpiece, the largest playset ever created in 3.75” scale and considered by many as the Holy Grail of GI Joe collectors, the vintage USS Flagg (never been in public display in the Philippines for the last 20-plus years).

The event will be during the weekend of June 15-17, 2012, and TS118 will be there in full force, wearing our latest TS118 blue t-shirts as homage to the GI Joe navy.”

TS118 unveils one of the largest dioramas ever seen

Anyone who has checked out my site has seen updates from those awesome Philippine Joefans from ToySoldier118.  But no matter how cool their work has been to this point, I don’t think anything has quite reached this level.  While they’ve certainly done some awesome interior Dioramas, they are now branching outside…and not in a small way.  They have created one of the largest scale G.I. Joe and 1:18 dioramas I’ve ever seen.
They are still gathering together images of the event, but have generously provided YouTube links showing some different angles of this ambitious project that just has to be seen to be believed.  It really is awesome.
As always, you can check out their great website right here, and now view these videos below.  Once I get the images I’ll show them off, too.  Click the “Read the Rest of this Entry” link below for the great details of this diorama, as well as embedded YouTube videos.

Operation: Snake Rising Diorama by TS118

I’ve covered the awesome guys from TS118 plenty of times in the past…and they’ve given me good reason to do so.  They do some absolutely awesome work.  A big thanks to GlenMarc (Flash) once again for putting us in the loop for one of their latest projects…another Dynamic Modular Diorama, entitled “Operation: Snake Rising”.  Here are some notes:
– Inspired by oriental movies and ninja-themed displays.
– Displayed last weekend October 2-3, 2010 at the Robinson’s Place Manila Mall (Philippines) in celebration of Collecticon 2010, organized by Hobbiworx and PinoyToyKolektors (PTK).
– Brought to you by the same team that came up with O: Shock and Awe, O: Killzone, O: Forced Entry, O: Gothic Serpent, O: Sidewinder Verde, O: Grayia Seize-r, and O: Ivory Blanket…the Philippines only local 3 3/4 (1:18) Joe online community..TS118
– This diorama changes display every three to four hours. It is the first of its kind in the Philippines for action figures (regardless of scale). We dubbed it as a “dynamic modular diorama” or DMD. In this case, it is called Dynamic Modular DOJO-rama.
– Took 3 weekends of preparation and actual dio-work to complete (figures/structures/vehicles). Mostly done on Saturdays only.
– Collaboration done by at least 8-10 members (builders, pledgers/financiers, consultants, etc.).
– Dojo panels allowed the team to display it as U-shaped to show dojo interior, or in a straight line to simulate the dojo facade.
– Featured GI Joe customs in 25A body (Slice, Dice, Jinx DDP, unmasked SS & SE) plus hidden mickeys (Deadpool Sensei, Kakashi Sensei, Deathstroke, Rha’s Al Ghul, and a tribute to the legend…BRUCE LEE).
They also have a dedicated Photobucket album here, and I’ve mirrored a number of the awesome images below:

Along with all of this, they’ve posted some videos of set up, too…I’ll embed all of those after the jump.

ToySoldier118 diorama coolness on display again

TS118 is pretty much the premier Philippine G.I. Joe on the web, and for good reason.  They regularly participate in some awesome diorama projects and the latest one, Operation Grayia Seize-r [DMD = Dynamic Modular Diorama], is absolutely no exception.  This is some very cool stuff!  Here are the details:
OPERATION: GRAYIA SEIZE-R
Some quick notes..
– Inspired by real-life VBSS (Vessel, Board, Search, and Seizure) missions and some scenes from the ARAH cartoons.
– Culled from Grayia Caesar, an African water snake. The premise is that a GI Joe off-shore platform (used by Piranhas, WHALEs, and the like) has been held captive by Cobra, and Navy SEALs will be sent in to do retrieval ops for captured crew members. Instead of spelling “Caesar”, we instead used “SEIZE-r” (which sounds similar) as a direct reference to seizure.
– Displayed last February 27-28, 2009 at the Robinson’s Place Manila Mall (Philippines) in celebration of 4th TAGCOM (Toys, Anime Gaming, Cosplay, Movies/Maquettes), event organized by Hobbiworx and PinoyToyKolektors (PTK).
– Brought to you by the same team that came up with O:Shock and Awe, O: Killzone, O: Forced Entry, O: Gothic Serpent, and O: Sidewinder Verde…the Philippines only local 3 3/4 (1:18) Joe online community.. TS118
– This diorama changes display every four-five hours. It is the first of its kind in the Philippines for action figures (regardless of scale). We dubbed it as a “dynamic modular diorama” or DMD.
– Took only 2 weekends of preparation and actual dio-work to complete (figures/structures/vehicles).
– Collaboration done by at least 10-18 members (builders, pledgers/financiers, consultants, etc.)
– Simulated actual body of water (ocean) by using silicone (patted down to look wave-like) poured over a bed of illustration board.

You can also check out their great Photobucket account right here!  I’ve also mirrored a bunch of the images below.  A huge thanks as always for the guys over at ToySoldier118 for sharing their great projects with us!  I love checking this stuff out.
