Retirement?  Did someone say retirement… as I am in the midst of several 10 – 12 hour days in a row at work that word sounds awful nice right about now…

But enough about real life!  Thrust yourself back into your imaginary G.I. Joe filled existence with What’s on Joe Mind Episode 64.  We are joined this week by podcasting experts Slick McFavorite and Mrs. McFavorite from the Open Your Toys Podcast where we discuss the critical issues of the day like how to fill your entertainment center with San Diego ComicCon exclusives, whether a gimp suit equals a “vinyl toy”, and where to find the best french-speaking poutine.  It’s a live one, folks.

Hasbro profits rise 8.8% in third quarter boosted by Boys Toys sales

The Associated Press is reporting that Hasbro has posted higher profits than expected, raising 8.8%, buoyed by strong boys toys sales.  The article says specifically:

“Hasbro Inc, the nation’s second biggest toymaker, said Monday its profit rose 8.8 percent in the third quarter, helped by lower costs and slightly higher sales of Transformers and G.I. Joe toys.

Hasbro said its earnings rose to $150.4 million, or 99 cents per share, for the three months ended Sept. 27, up from $138.2 million, or 89 cents a share, a year ago.”

While I’m sure Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen played a larger role in the profits arena than Rise of Cobra did, it’s nice to see G.I. Joe getting some credit for raising some capital for parent company Hasbro as well.  Read the full article here, as well as a report on WallStreetJournal.com.

HASBRO GEARS UP FOR BIGGEST BLOCKBUSTER SUMMER

IN COMPANY’S LICENSING HISTORY

Thousands of TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE Licensed Products to Land on Retail Shelves Around the World as Highly Anticipated Movies Hit Theaters

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – June 2, 2009 – The Entertainment & Licensing Division of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS) today announced that the combined licensing programs supporting the movie releases of TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN and G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA has surpassed Hasbro’s licensing milestones based on the number of deals signed, variety of products spanning major licensing categories, and retail distribution of the goods worldwide. Hasbro will arrive at the Licensing International Expo in Las Vegas on June 2, 2009, with more than 350 licensees on board to bring TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE movie-related products to market this summer and beyond.

In association with Hasbro, the new DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures live-action movie, TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN, will debut on June 24, 2009 followed by G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment on August 7, 2009.

“Two back-to-back releases of live-action films based on Hasbro’s powerhouse boys action brands has created the perfect global storm from a licensing perspective,” said Bryony Bouyer, Senior Vice President of Licensing, the Americas at Hasbro. “The combination of these time-tested, proven brands supported by major theatrical premieres presents a rare opportunity for licensees to confidently drive new and innovative products into the worldwide market.”

The TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE movie-related licensing agreements will offer products that appeal to consumers worldwide from men to women and children with something to fit every budget across all major categories from sporting goods to electronics; apparel, accessories, domestics and footwear; publishing, social expressions and school supplies; and video games. A wide variety of these Hasbro-licensed items will be showcased at the Licensing International Expo in Hasbro Booth #1825.
