by generalsjoes | Jun 1, 2010 | G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe Toys, G.I. Joe: Resolute, Pursuit of COBRA
August is only a couple of short months away, and we all know what that means in regards to the Asian market. Over the past few days quite a number of products have started showing up across the web, and while I’ll refrain from linking to specific auctions, I did want to mirror the updated images and point out that these all come courtesy of The Terror Drome. To date, we’ve got some nice pictures of Pursuit of Cobra City Strike Beachhead, Jungle Assault Duke, Desert Battle Storm Shadow, and G.I. Joe: Resolute Scarlett and Baroness.
In the past I’ve jumped on some of these auctions pretty quickly, to be totally honest. But so far, I’m holding myself back on this initial batch. I grabbed Spirit pretty quickly when he appeared a couple of weeks back, but I’m just having a hard time pulling the trigger on $20 a pop when they should be hitting retail in about 6 – 8 weeks. The really weird thing is, for the Rise of Cobra figures, which were pretty inferior, all told, I was jumping on them pretty quick. But for these much better figures, I can’t bring myself to do it, at least not yet. Is it because of the price jump, which is admittedly, pretty small? Or is it my strong, iron clad moral core? Yeah, definitely not that.

by generalsjoes | Jun 1, 2010 | Comics and Cartoons, G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary
While I understand that many folks bemoan the G.I. Joe film, it’s tough to argue that both the 25th Anniversary line as well as the Rise of Cobra event have brought a bunch more Joe fans to the table, which is especially cool because that means a bunch of cool new G.I. Joe fan projects end up emerging.
HissTank forum member Jimmy McWicked is the latest fan that has really made me sit up and say “Wow!” with his strongly animated-influenced fan art inspired by G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. Every time someone cries foul about the fact that G.I. Joe: Renegades might have animated influences, I see stuff like this and say “so freaking what?” This is some of the coolest, most inspired fan art that I’ve seen in a very long time.
Jimmy McWicked can also be found on Deviant Art where you can peruse more of his fantastic work. Check out some of the mirrored images below.

by generalsjoes | Feb 12, 2010 | G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe: The Movie, Operation: H.I.S.S.
Heh…in the last post I mentioned a month was a long time to wait for a follow up to a 5 minute webisode. Turns out, the action itself only took just over 3 minutes. Overall impression? About what you’d expect for a direct-to-website feature catered to kids. It’s done in CGI animation, purely computer models, and they looked like they were pulled from the cut scenes of the console game (which isn’t necessarily a good thing). Some choppy animation, some stilted voice acting, and nothing that will really make the long time fans go crazy. Definitely not G.I. Joe’s best side.
I still kinda dig seeing the movie universe further explored (especially since it would appear it’s vanishing entirely from store shelves with this G.I. Joe “reboot” this fall), but the end result did not blow my skirt up, which is really saying something when coming from this fanboy. Regardless, I’ll be waiting the first Friday of every month just to see what’s next.
On the positive side, we did get some cool intel when the credits rolled! I’ve mirrored some screen shots below, including a shot of the voice credits, which indicate that some other characters will be appearing in the series like Recondo, Helix, and Snow Job! I’ll check out further installments just for that.
A fun way to spend a few minutes, but don’t expect Beast Wars or Starship Troopers… the gallery is below.

Every so often, Sideshow Collectibles posts a Q & A offering some information and insight on their upcoming products…well, this time around, they went one better for G.I. Joe fans, and devoted a special section of their Q & A purely to G.I. Joe related questions. The information is below, simply click on the Read the Rest of this Entry link. The entire Q & A can also be read on Sideshow’s site right here. Thanks to HissCommander of The Terror Drome for the information!

by generalsjoes | Nov 15, 2009 | Customs, G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe: Resolute, Kick Ass Custom
With all the talk of the upcoming Resolute boxed sets, everyone’s been clammoring for Roadblock, Destro, Stalker and all of the guys that didn’t get the action figure treatment, but not many fans are really making mention of the arctic assault uniforms that Duke and Scarlett wore while they busted up Siberia. HissTank member meeko, actually goes even further, and he did up some great customs of the entire cast of characters from the Arctic battle…not only did he do some very nice versions of Siberian Scarlett and Duke, but also the Alley-Vipers, Ice-Vipers, and Zartan. He used some Star Wars parts, some Joe parts, and really thinks outside the box on some of these things. Nice stuff.
