KickAss Customs of the week – CustomCon 24!

One of the coolest events in toy customization are the occasional “CustomCons” held by renowned toy website The Fwoosh.  During these “CustomCons”, customs of all shapes, sizes, and styles are presented as if they are new toylines being shown to the public.  There usually are some very cool things to be seen, including some occasional G.I. Joe related items.

This time around, though, Joe custom fansite JoeCustoms.com goes way above and beyond, by designing and “producing” a full-fledged “Spooks” boxed set using G.I. Joe parts.  You might wonder what the big deal about Spook is?  Well, it’s a very cool comic title by Devils’ Due Publishing written by none other than Larry Hama, so there are obvious ties to the G.I. Joe brand scattered throughout.

As part of this great CustomCon presentation, JoeCustoms has an exciting announcement to come in the next four days…keep your eyes peeled!  Until then, check out their great boxed set over on The Fwoosh.  More will  be coming as well…

Sideshow Collectibles 12″ Cobra Commander Contest Winner Announcement

In conjunction with Sideshow’s “Spooktacular” event, GeneralsJoes was honored to be able to work with them to give away a free 12″ Cobra Commander from their amazing G.I. Joe toyline.  The requirements were simple…  just do up a custom of a G.I. Joe or Cobra character in a Halloween theme.  But knowing that I alone wasn’t the customizing expert I used to be, I also enlisted the aid of JoeCustoms.com and a hand-picked group of their customizing gurus served as judges to pick the entry that best exemplified what we wanted to see.

There were a number of entries, which I’ve mirrored below:

JoeCustoms Presents – Custom Celebration 4!

The countdown has begun!

JoeCustoms.com will be kicking off Custom Celebration 4 on October 19 through November 1.  Custom Celebration is a two week event where the site is flooded with customizing and collecting content that nobody will want to miss.

Past Custom Celebrations have included interviews with some of the finest customizers, who often share tips and techniques through tutorials posted to the site’s wiki. Visitors can also read in-depth articles on G.I. Joe, customizing and related topics, as well as reviews of figures from the site’s extensive gallery by some long-time members.  This year promises to have all of that and more, so be sure to stop on by.

An independently run fan site for G.I. Joe hobbyists, enthusiasts and collectors, JoeCustoms offers free hosting for more than 9,000 customized action figures, 700 customized vehicles, and 100 playsets, as well as commentary from the artistic minds behind them. The site is supported by its users – including the artists themselves – who share their thoughts and insights on G.I. Joe, customizing and any number of topics through the site’s forums.

For more information on JoeCustoms.com’s Custom Celebration 4, please feel free to email contact@joecustoms.com.  The schedule of events will be updated daily.

Custom submission contest posted on JoeCustoms.com!

JoeCustoms administrator Pluv has announced a contest on the site to encourage folks to send in G.I. Joe related customs for the custom archive.  Contest details are below:

“For every custom that you submit during the month of July that gets greenlit for the Gallery, your name will go into the hat for one (1) of three (3) $20 cards* to go see the GI Joe movie on August 7th. I want to stress that the custom must meet the submission guidelines in order to be greenlit. If your custom is denied for not following the guidelines your submission will not count.

*Your choice of movie theater gift card, or Fandango gift card, or Paypal.”

Amazing fan project! COBRA Missile Headquarters as it always should have been

I’ve gone on the record saying that my favorite projects are always the fan-based ones.  Seeing what Joefans do with the property is always entertaining, especially when they do it better than Hasbro themselves.  This definitely falls into that realm…  granted, Hasbro first tried it with a limited budget and twenty-five years ago, but still…

JoeCustoms member and G.I. Joe enthusiast J_Man has been working dilligently on his COBRA Missile HQ project for a long time, and it’s finally complete!  An awesome homage to the vintage Missile HQ, but done totally in plastic!  That’s right, it looks just as cool as the original, but is MORE durable.  It also looks to be customizable as well.  I’ve mirrored some images below, but they do not do this project justice.  If you like what you see, hit up D & J Toys and get on the wait list.  I will personally vouch for J_Man’s credibility.  He put a ton of effort and work into this project, and he truly did it FOR the fans.  It’s gonna be very cool.
